Windrock Trail to WWII Radar Base

This is a scenic ride to the highest point at Windrock Park. An Air Force Radar base was constructed at the top in 1942 to detect incoming threats to the town of Oak Ridge below, where the Manhattan project was underway. A tram was built to transport personnel from the bottom to the top - which was taken down and installed on Lookout Mountain, TN. This info is from Benny, a Park Ranger. The mountain peaks had a silver hue from below - we found out why.
