#71 on the rerun. 🙋🏼♀️☔️ We’re on the Royal Princess in February Auckland to Sydney. We were on the Ovation of the Seas this past February Sydney RT. We just loved it there and that’s why we are going back to see some new ports of call. We never remove our tips and always prepay. Plus tip more.
I would never remove the service charge and always pre pay it so it is out of the way. I don't tip huge amounts on the ship like some claim. Maybe a $50 amazon gift card to the steward per week. I will add $5 for specialty dining if the server was above normal.
#85 on the replay. It's been awhile. Since travelling in our first year or Retirement, we have been having so much fun and not spending much time on UA-cam. We book our cruises typically 1 1/2 years to 2 years in advance. We prepay for tips. Additionally we give our house stewards additionally and any people who are exceptional during our stay. We go to one or two specialty dinners and we tip our server $20 there too. Queen Mary 2 is on our bucket list. Enjoy.
Hi Bruce and Jen. Sorry I forgot yesterday was Monday LOL. I booked a 23 day cruise on NCL Joy Miami to Seattle in April 2026, Hope to add an Alaskan cruise after we disembark, probably a smaller ship in Vancouver. NCL does not have the 2026 Alaska Cruises available to book yet.
My understanding is that the service charge is really a way for NCL in my case to fund a good portion of crew wages with a fairly fixed amount per cruise. More of a budgeting tool since the base cruise price fluctuates based on demand. Crew don't really see the majority of the service charge as extra pay above their contract wages. I am good with that. If they didn't do this plan the base would be higher and the next result would be about the same anyway.
#62, Bruce. I never asked for a tip reduction on a cruise.
We just came back from London and Paris. In London, we loved "The Play that Goes Wrong".

You need to come back from Australia on a cruise via Tahiti !
Yes I like to Prepay gratuities, so as the cruise line say I will start with a clean wallet. Never remove gratuities. #39 I think.
