That 197 match was hard to watch. Refs gotta let the wrestlers wrestle, to much involvement imo.
There is no time limit on shooting in freestyle. A wrestler can be put on a 30 second shot clock for passivity, in which the wrestler (or their opponent) has to score or the opponent is awarded a point. A passivity call is not determined by number of shot attempts but rather which wrestler is controlling the mat/action.
Never saw a match where one wrestler has two takedowns to none but loses on three stall points.
Yeah- dude should never ref another college match. He held onto stall calls throughout the dual meet, but he throws out 4 in that match on the guy with the only two takedowns of the match. Inexcusable.
In the RBY match that kid stalled the whole time
i think it was 4 stall points... 1 in the second, 3 in the third. Warning-1-1-2
BEARD GOT RIPPED OFF BIG TIME !!!! Even the BIG ten announcer’s agreed. Ref decided the match.
If you put yourself into a position where the official can decide the match, you don't deserve to win.

It's great seeing RBY be super aggressive as of late. I get it that it's tougher scoring against more game, ranked opponents (not knocking these unranked guys), but It'd be dope to see him keep this pace up through NCAAs.
Everyone has been more aggressive as of late on average.
Spencer Lee has changed the expectation for the top meta. Everyone is now expected to try to turn/pin or risk a stall call if you don’t catch and release quickly.
@@Willsmiff1985 Spencer Lee? How about Dake, Ruth, Taylor, Magalutus, Gilman, Suriano, Snyder, Rutherford, Nolf, Josephs, Hall, Nikkal, Stevenson etc. Come on man, Spencer Lee will go down as one of the greatest, but this trend has been coming on for a decade!
@@jeradmarker3090 Look, these are all spectacular wrestlers and I could go on and on about them. But they didn’t impact the META the way Lee has.
Everyone is attempting to turn the way he is. Even Gable Steveson bar arm tilted some guy the other day.
The above list made us ooh and wow. Spencer Lee is literally affecting strategies across ALL weight classes.
This is an Askren level change in peoples behaviors on the mat. Even Sanderson didn’t have this kind of effect.
He will keep this pace up......until he has to wrestle someone good. Then it's back to timid afraid and intimidated into doing nothing.

i don’t care, if i’m beard, i’m swinging on the ref. he’s a better man than me. schultz had no business celebrating afterwards, you didn’t win that. these refs have been pitiful this season

Being there live, that ref was lucky fans didn't come out the stands and rip him a new one. The boos were deafening.
Ref should never determine the outcome of a match ... that dude (disrespectfully) absolutely handed the match to Schulz. Any stall points should have gone to Beard. Unbelievable. I am a Penn State wrestling fan, but I am really a fan of good wrestling ...... and that, Schultz did not do
Next year Beard will be a force to reckon with. He will be a two time national champion. Watch. Cael knows what he is doing and when the wrestler trust him… he makes him a champion. It’s coming.

@@tedbundy1769 9/10 that is true. But he was the offensive wrestler & scored points on offense & lost on despicable reffing. Beard may have lost but Schultz damn sure didn't win. Come Big 10s I'm hoping Dean rips this guy apart.
@@DB-115 I know there was a lot of backlash after the RBY Desanto match for not calling stalls enough. Perhaps the big ten refs got talked to after that or something.

@@DB-115 he did nothing on defense tho that's why he got the calls, you can be offensive yes but you can't just sit their and do nothing when you aren't in position to score, you still have to wrestle

He wrestles fearlessly when his opponents are not good. Put him in front of a good wrestler and his heart disappears.

I didn't see that in this match. He took down the #3 guy in the weight class twice. The #3 guy didn't take him down at all. If not for the refs. he wins this match.
If Manville goes to another school upon leaving high school he's a multi-time AA. Being in that PSU room getting spanked by national champs daily crushed his confidence.
Well, it's either you thrive or survive. Manville happens to be in survival mode. I would bet some of those national champs, woulsnt be national champs, however, elite coaching and phenom as partners turned the AA into national champions, imo.
@@Tdinh79 this is true. Just doesn't work for everyone. Sometimes the small fish can't thrive in the big pond. To see the guy win the WTT to getting majored regularly at the NCAA level tells me this wasn't the right program. He comes off as the type of guy that needs action in competition on a regular basis to thrive. PSU couldn't offer that unfortunately.
Am I the only one who thinks the last two stall calls on Beard are fair? The first one is harsh if anything imo.
