I noticed this game looks and sounds REALLY rough, however, I think it can still be saved with future patches. (If this game gets enough suppourt) The vision is there! It's just all roughly presented. (Also I don't really care that it's inspired by Cuphead. It's obvious, yea, but I can see it trying to do it's own thing.)
Yeeeeeeah, I get that the devs of this are huge fans of Cuphead and wanted to make an game inspired by it, but this isn't the most polished of ways to do that. There's barely any sound effects, meaning you may not notice when certain attacks are about to strike and difficulty wise, it's much easier than its obvious inspiration, but as a result, everything is much tamer and more artificially put-together. Cuphead may have been chaotic and tough, but imo, it nailed the lunacy, character and overall satisfaction of overcoming its array of bosses. Difficult, but super rewarding and full of character to keep you going. Here, it's just loosely-stitched-together stuff happening for randomness's sake without much cohesion or flow. Imitation in itself is NOT a bad thing, but if you want a better example of a game having roughly the same formula but enough of its own charm and character to engross you on TOP of being tightly designed and fun, I'd say Bits and Bops, a game with a demo on Steam inspired by Nintendo's Rhythm Paradise that features it own array of rhythm based minigames, but actually has a TON of effort and detail in its animation, music and is fun to play and bop along to. THAT'S how you make an indie-tribute. There's a few cute ideas in here, like the change in character artstyles in a couple of levels, but overall, this one just seems pretty half-baked. Just makes me wanna play more of the much better ORIGINAL. I do feel sorry for the team behind it facing the backlash when it was first revealed tho...
Another example of indies inspired by classic titles done right I should'a brought up as well are Pizza Tower and Antonblast, two Wario Land-inspired games that take the template from Nintendo's series and wonderfully weave their own touches and personality into it to be their own thing.
@@VigilanteLulu and both games are taking the same game as base, Wario Land 4 But in the execution, both ooze so much personality and have notable aesthetic, story, and gameplay differences between each other and their main inspiration that all three can coexist just fine, and they're also very unique among other games too, all three are gems, at least from what I've played of Antonblast This game tho... Its dangerously close to passing from being merely inspired by Cuphead, to being a rip-off tbh, and not just because of the artstyle, the only thing telling me this isn't Cuphead, is that I don't play as a cup headed person here, and the sudden artstyle changes could've been a pretty nice thing that could actually make this game at least look more unique, but those only happen in the very first and final boss, the rest of the game plays with the base style, and the artstyle changes don't do anything to the gameplay either, so they don't add much to the game to matter
@@megamanx1291 REALLY feels like they did, when all of the boss fights ended, I was like "Wait, that's it?" because it just immediately cut to a still image. Though from what I heard, each level is randomly generated, but it just recycles the same few assets so it feels like they just go on for far too long.
Honestly, I kind of wish this game does decently, mainly because I want these developers to have another chance, this game has some good aspects, despite being drowned by the rushed feeling of the game, I can see potential in this studio, just, this wasn't their game, and it shows
I guess they only had enough budget for the opening cutscene. Also the lack of sound effects and death scenes for the bosses make it feel cheaper. I wanted to give this a chance despite being a Cuphead clone but it really feels like one of those “bootleg” games if that makes sense.
The sounds are so…ugh. In cuphead, everything down to the bullets shooting was ear candy. The jumping and shooting sound effects just miss the mark completely. The transitions to every world are baseline, idk man this game just feels so hollow
To make you actually do run and gun and it’s not optional is crazy. To have the Boss either match or don’t match the run and gun is crazy. Even the run and guns sometimes don’t match each other is crazy.
This would've been a better Cuphead clone if they didn't bother with any run n gun levels, and instead focused all their efforts on making their bosses more fun and creative (as well as making more of them). Pretty much everyone who played Cuphead would tell you those levels are the least fun parts of the game.
I do wonder if the run and gun was prioritized to make themself stand apart from Cuphead They had more bosses but little run and gun so I wonder if they're thought process was to reverse it and hopefully appear more unique and diffrent
Even though I wasn’t part of the backlash this game had when it was revealed, I knew that this game would be not good at all. It feels kind of rushed not gonna lie.
For what it's worth, the visuals are nice...Static, but nice... In all seriousness, the Beethoven boss looks SO cool and clever. It just...misses the mark.

To be fair, if the Credits are correct, then it's a game made by only 2 persons. From that angle, of course that game won't be on Cuphead's level.
yeah, patches can't really fix boring and tedious game design, floaty controls and a slow unintresting combat sistem.
