Great video - thank you for sharing. Glad I found this, as it's given me a new found love for this little beast. Just need to make a few adjustments :)
Can't say they didn't name it well, it does deep bass and is as original as the 9th of anything. But honestly, it sounds pretty good, nice and thrummy. A volca kick and this guy + any sampler and you could keep a party grooving. Nice patches and good jam :) Edit: my first analog synth was technically the Korg Volca Keys, but I didn't know what I was doing and also wanted drum sounds after getting my feet wet so I sold it and got a Korg Monotribe which I will never part with.
CV and Gate are pre Midi syncing options from way back in the day. Some newer machines, like the Behringer clones support cv/gate as well. The advantage over midi is that it's way more responsive as the cv/gate voltages are directly controlling the synths and there is no delay created by midi's processing of digital information. CV/Gate is as instant as it gets
@@rejectedsynths Thank you Sir. I just picked up a mint Vermona MKII and really would like to setup a DAW-less setup. Have you ever considered doing a live show?
@@rejectedsynths Thanks for fast reply. So it seems that mine still need to be repaired. The "Env Trigger" diode does not blink when set on 16th channel before turning on, and there is no signal in audio out. Your model have different name for this diode, just "Midi Data". My model has 3 types of waveform too. Something is going on inside anyway - ROM is working, my friend checked it with multimeter and oscillator. There is code written on it too. But we still did not get to the clue what's wrong.
Mine is a prototype unit. Just to be sure, did you set the waveform knob to square or saw? Another common source for trouble on these are the pots. Try giving them some contact cleaner spray and wiggle them a bit. Do you have any type of modular equipment at hand to try to test sending cv/gate instead of midi?
@@rejectedsynths Wow, lucky you - your piece is even more rare :) Demo will not work on "X" Waveform? I am not sure which one I used before, I do not remember. Pots? You mean knobs? It sounds like slang to me :D I am not native English speaker you see ;) No, I do not have anything with CV or even regular MIDI. I like electronic music a lot, and I saw this device on flea market for not high price. I checked in the internet that's TB-303 clone and I came back to the store next day, and there was even sale, so it was even cheaper. So I did bought it. I have contact cleaner spray, but the device is at my friend's place at this moment. Maybe tomorrow I will go to him and check it.
X waveform is the setting for the audio in, so no audio output of the oscillator. The pots or potentiometers are the parts connected to the knobs. Open the unit and spray some cleaner onto the shaft of the pot if there is no opening on the part itself and turn them around a few times.
oh and btw my first analogue synth was the Neutron, but the first I kept around was the Korg monologue. I started that whole synth game just less than 3 years ago, not 25 like you^^

Plugged my 303 into this and triggered the sounds which was very good. I also put my Korg prophecy through it and it sounded like a monster
I have one of these too! But my first was a Tesico 60F...A vey week sounding machine.

Thanks, your interpretation if the name really nails it 😂
I am a Monotribe fan as well. I have 6!
Just pick one off the bay-klein... Thank you for this video :)
Giving underloved synths a new home is the mission of this channel, so mission accomplished 🤩
My first analog synth was the Elektron Analog Rytm if drum synths count.
I was expecting it to bounce off the Defiant, or Voyager.
If it responds to CV/Gate is not a CV/Gate to MIDI and not a MIDI to CV/Gate.
It responds to both MIDI and CV/Gate, and also has CV/Gate outputs which serve as a MIDI to CV/Gate converter.
@@Fionnlagh66 Nice!
I still have mine. Can also use CV. Trying to understand the use of CV & Gates. Any helpful
tips would be appreciated.

Naw, I prefer to have the possibility to edit everything so that it makes me look like I actually know what I'm doing 😁
@@rejectedsynths Hahaha, i get it. Well keep up your videos, i appreciate it!
Will the demo play only with power and audio out plugged in? Without Midi data going into DB9.
Yes, it's meant to be this way so you can quickly check if it's working properly

Roland Alpha Juno-2
One to fulfill the more sh sounds?
Depends on which sh you're aiming for. It sounds very old school
@@rejectedsynths the 101 to be more precise. Ever compared them?
I'd say a 101 is a lot thinner and less 'round'. The db9 really sounds more like a 70s analog synth
I think it won't replace my crave and volca bass soon, but it's not as bad as expected ;-)
