One detail I liked mentioned in passing is when Ulquiorra says a Gran Rey Cero being used under the canopy is forbidden by Aizen. So now we know Grimmjow just broke another of Aizen's rules when he used that move against Ichigo.
I feel like Ulquiorra says things that end up motivating people because it sounds like tough love but his actual intent is to slap them with reality to make them feel despair.
I literally just saw this, we know how white can be petty sometimes. The first thing white takes from Ulquiorra is his left arm, Uryu's left arm was messed up by Ulquiorra especially if you saw it in the manga. I believe some of this fight shows what Uryu means to Ichigo especially in the most raw of his emotions. This gives more context especially with the most recent episode of the tybw. You know how anime was pretty censored back then? I remember reading the manga. Ulquiora didn't break his arm. It was ripped off. When Uryu appeared before Orihime, he was performing a Quincy spell to stop the bleeding at his SHOULDER.

Ichigo's revival was White's (hollow Ichigo) promise to take his body and soul from him if he were to ever die again coming to fruition. It has nothing really to do with the unfinished business...although a very good guess. But He shattered himself from his soul chain that would turn him into a hollow to fully realise his soul reaper abilities early on in the very first season before he went to Soul Society for the first time.

One thing to note is when Ulquiorra goes into his 2nd release his number is completely gone. Either because his hole got bigger/went towards his chest or because he becomes too strong to have a number
one of the most pivotal, detrimental, beautiful, and exciting moments in all of anime. these set of episodes surpass most of tybw arc in my humble opinion, I'm glad u all enjoyed this masterpiece. absolute cinema!!
Ulquiorra may have been fighting Ichigo physically, but he was also fighting Orihime philosophically. The whole fight he could’ve killed Ichigo sooner, but he wanted to make them loose hope and prove his nihilistic view was correct.
[Tidbits & Clarifications][LOT of Reading] [Ep 270] - Kubo does well at using shonen tropes while flipping them into a more narrative-based thing. Here you have Ulqiorra telling Ichigo to use his best move (which usually is simply to flex power in Shounen), however, Ulquiorra is doing it to prove a point because he doesn't understand how humanity works, he's trying to prove that Ichigo's actions are pointless and foolish, Ulquiorra is an existence far from human because humans are emotional, and emotions craft irrationality...it's the same reason he questioned why Orihime uses her shield. Again this isn't just some antagonist proving their power, rather its a character who can't understand why the Main Cast do what they do, and wants to prove why its the wrong way to be. - The anime clearly censored what Ulquiorra does to Uryu. He 100% Takes his arm in the manga. - Episode 271 is a very important stamp in Orihime's development. Her goal is to be able to stand alongside her allies and actually help. This arc set's off with her going to Aizen in an attempt to save her friends by sacrificing herself, this occurred for 2 reasons. : 1 she doesn't believe she could help in any other way because she's not like Ichigo : 2 she attempts to mimic Ichigo's flawed habit of sacrificing himself to save others So we end up here, with everything she did being pointless, reaffirming that she can't do anything, everyone is dropping and she can't help. The lesson here is that she should have had faith in herself and her loved ones, she needs to stop trying to be like Ichigo and work on what she excels in. - I've already typed too much but, Ulquiorra saying "I have no meaning" simply because he's weaker than the enemy is meant to express Nihilism, a theme that plays into his reason for following Aizen, which deals in an entire philosophy by Nietzsche knows as the "ubermensch", but that's a story for another day. - Ichigo is already part hollow, this transformation was actually foreshadowed. White Ichigo explicitly told Ichigo to not die if he wants to remain in control, this was simply the natural progression of what Occured back in Soul Society when Ichigo fought Byakuya. This also shows a distinct difference between Ichigo and the Vizards.
yeah it was foreshadowed also when Ulquiorra crushed his heart in the previous fight. When Orihime used her Soten Kisshun to heal him, there was a black reiatsu that was preventing her from rejecting the damage, but Ulquiorra's reiatsu is not black, it's green. That was a certain someone trying to keep Ichigo alive and eventually take over.

Congrats you have reached Segunda Etapa Ulqiurra and Full Hollowfide ichigo. Now for the first one it is interesting that he alone could go even further beyond(DBZ reference) than no other espada. However, if you read his side story chapter yes just 1 chapter which is canon as of this point in the story unlike grimmjow, aronyero, or any espada ranks lower than him. He was born very unique. Second for ichigo, this form named mostly by the fan base is entirely fan given, and is hard to wrap around if you over think it. But we call it Vasto Lorde Ichigo, cause it speaks volumes that ichigo finally became full hollowfide but at the same time a normal hollow shouldn’t be stepping to the 4th Espada. So that’s why for Ichigo most call it his Vasto lorde transformation, the pinnacle of what hollows aim to be. Also it’s cool seeing Ichigo expand his ability set while in this form, doing ceros, moving not with flash step but sounido a hollow movement technique. And if you read the manga version he does something different then what the anime portrayed. Overall this moment is one of the highest in all the series.
Chris wondering about why Ulquiorra would expect mercy after what he has done is again because he is testing their humanity. The answer is precisely how Orihime showed compassion even to Loly and Menoly, and we know Ichigo normally also would show Ulquiorra humanity. But Ulquiorra doesn't understand that humanity, that's why he keeps testing it. Ichigo not being able to show mercy is not only proof of his hollowfication but also migth prove Ulquiorra right about his assumptions about the limitations of humanity, but we'll see.

There’s no specific lore on the black Reishi, either it’s just an intense level of energy or it’s a Hollow related thing since Ichigo’s black Getsuga was originally by his inner Hollow and Yammy also does it in the manga.

@@denickartyour not wrong, for instance in the manga we don’t actually see Ulquiorra take Uryus arm we just see the aftermath and that it’s missing as opposed to us actually seeing Ichigo take Ulquiorra’s. Personally I saw it as they didn’t want to show that type of damage done to a human in the show as opposed to spiritual beings and unlike Ulquiorra Uryu couldn’t just regrow his moments later so made it seem a little more tame in comparison
If you remember when Ichigo fought his inner hollow, he did say to Ichigo not to die before they next met and low and behold Ichigo died and this was the result and it was amazing
The after credits show Loly surviving. Uryu caught her on his way up. There is no spell on Orihime. Aizen just manipulated her, that's what they meant by spell. Ulquiorra just doesn't understand. Orihime isn't a fighter and that's ok. It would be cool though if we saw her do something crazy like erase someone out of existence. I'm assuming you'll do Sub vs Dub on Vasto Lorde Ichigo. His roar actually sounds like a roar in the sub, here he just sounds like a goblin that stubbed his toe. I like how fights in Bleach go. Tite Kubo makes almost every fight kind of unbalanced to make it harder for you to compare power levels between characters. Making characters fight under different circumstances at different levels. Like Ichigo fighting Kenny and "winning" before achieving bankai, but he had help from Zangetsu, and Kenny fought one handed. Or here Ulquiorra is #4 but he says Aizen doesn't know of his second stage. So is he actually stronger than #1 or not? Captains that fought Starrk never used bankai, but there was multiple captains, and vizard captains, and two of them are are assumingly only second to Yamamoto, being some of the oldest. Also compatibility matters in a lot of fights. Like Byakuya fighting #7, he had the perfect weapon to overcome 7's ability, and so on.

FYI, Loly doesn't actually die. Uryu saved her from falling to her death with one of his arrows while he was heading up the tower. There's a brief scene post credits in the episode that shows it.
The reason ulquiorra decided to not kill ichigo instantly is a psychological thing that was built up from what we’ve seen of him say to Orihime and Ichigo.

One thing to note is when Ulquiorra goes into his 2nd release his number is completely gone. Either because his hole got bigger/went towards his chest or because he becomes too strong to have a number
one of the most pivotal, detrimental, beautiful, and exciting moments in all of anime. these set of episodes surpass most of tybw arc in my humble opinion, I'm glad u all enjoyed this masterpiece. absolute cinema!!

Ulquiorra may have been fighting Ichigo physically, but he was also fighting Orihime philosophically. The whole fight he could’ve killed Ichigo sooner, but he wanted to make them loose hope and prove his nihilistic view was correct.

- Kubo does well at using shonen tropes while flipping them into a more narrative-based thing. Here you have Ulqiorra telling Ichigo to use his best move (which usually is simply to flex power in Shounen), however, Ulquiorra is doing it to prove a point because he doesn't understand how humanity works, he's trying to prove that Ichigo's actions are pointless and foolish, Ulquiorra is an existence far from human because humans are emotional, and emotions craft irrationality...it's the same reason he questioned why Orihime uses her shield. Again this isn't just some antagonist proving their power, rather its a character who can't understand why the Main Cast do what they do, and wants to prove why its the wrong way to be.
- The anime clearly censored what Ulquiorra does to Uryu. He 100% Takes his arm in the manga.
- Episode 271 is a very important stamp in Orihime's development. Her goal is to be able to stand alongside her allies and actually help. This arc set's off with her going to Aizen in an attempt to save her friends by sacrificing herself, this occurred for 2 reasons.
: 1 she doesn't believe she could help in any other way because she's not like Ichigo
: 2 she attempts to mimic Ichigo's flawed habit of sacrificing himself to save others
So we end up here, with everything she did being pointless, reaffirming that she can't do anything, everyone is dropping and she can't help.
The lesson here is that she should have had faith in herself and her loved ones, she needs to stop trying to be like Ichigo and work on what she excels in.
- I've already typed too much but, Ulquiorra saying "I have no meaning" simply because he's weaker than the enemy is meant to express Nihilism, a theme that plays into his reason for following Aizen, which deals in an entire philosophy by Nietzsche knows as the "ubermensch", but that's a story for another day.
- Ichigo is already part hollow, this transformation was actually foreshadowed. White Ichigo explicitly told Ichigo to not die if he wants to remain in control, this was simply the natural progression of what Occured back in Soul Society when Ichigo fought Byakuya. This also shows a distinct difference between Ichigo and the Vizards.
yeah it was foreshadowed also when Ulquiorra crushed his heart in the previous fight. When Orihime used her Soten Kisshun to heal him, there was a black reiatsu that was preventing her from rejecting the damage, but Ulquiorra's reiatsu is not black, it's green. That was a certain someone trying to keep Ichigo alive and eventually take over.

Congrats you have reached Segunda Etapa Ulqiurra and Full Hollowfide ichigo. Now for the first one it is interesting that he alone could go even further beyond(DBZ reference) than no other espada. However, if you read his side story chapter yes just 1 chapter which is canon as of this point in the story unlike grimmjow, aronyero, or any espada ranks lower than him. He was born very unique. Second for ichigo, this form named mostly by the fan base is entirely fan given, and is hard to wrap around if you over think it. But we call it Vasto Lorde Ichigo, cause it speaks volumes that ichigo finally became full hollowfide but at the same time a normal hollow shouldn’t be stepping to the 4th Espada. So that’s why for Ichigo most call it his Vasto lorde transformation, the pinnacle of what hollows aim to be. Also it’s cool seeing Ichigo expand his ability set while in this form, doing ceros, moving not with flash step but sounido a hollow movement technique. And if you read the manga version he does something different then what the anime portrayed. Overall this moment is one of the highest in all the series.

Chris wondering about why Ulquiorra would expect mercy after what he has done is again because he is testing their humanity. The answer is precisely how Orihime showed compassion even to Loly and Menoly, and we know Ichigo normally also would show Ulquiorra humanity. But Ulquiorra doesn't understand that humanity, that's why he keeps testing it. Ichigo not being able to show mercy is not only proof of his hollowfication but also migth prove Ulquiorra right about his assumptions about the limitations of humanity, but we'll see.

@@denickartyour not wrong, for instance in the manga we don’t actually see Ulquiorra take Uryus arm we just see the aftermath and that it’s missing as opposed to us actually seeing Ichigo take Ulquiorra’s. Personally I saw it as they didn’t want to show that type of damage done to a human in the show as opposed to spiritual beings and unlike Ulquiorra Uryu couldn’t just regrow his moments later so made it seem a little more tame in comparison

There is no spell on Orihime. Aizen just manipulated her, that's what they meant by spell. Ulquiorra just doesn't understand. Orihime isn't a fighter and that's ok. It would be cool though if we saw her do something crazy like erase someone out of existence.
I'm assuming you'll do Sub vs Dub on Vasto Lorde Ichigo. His roar actually sounds like a roar in the sub, here he just sounds like a goblin that stubbed his toe.
I like how fights in Bleach go. Tite Kubo makes almost every fight kind of unbalanced to make it harder for you to compare power levels between characters. Making characters fight under different circumstances at different levels. Like Ichigo fighting Kenny and "winning" before achieving bankai, but he had help from Zangetsu, and Kenny fought one handed. Or here Ulquiorra is #4 but he says Aizen doesn't know of his second stage. So is he actually stronger than #1 or not? Captains that fought Starrk never used bankai, but there was multiple captains, and vizard captains, and two of them are are assumingly only second to Yamamoto, being some of the oldest. Also compatibility matters in a lot of fights. Like Byakuya fighting #7, he had the perfect weapon to overcome 7's ability, and so on.
Ulquiorra is my fave Espada. His 2nd release manga panel was my wallpaper for years! Another great reaction guys! Navi’s face 😂 BTW each Espada represents different aspects of Death.
