  • Hi guys! I've been getting back into drawing architecture. It’s been a while and as I’ve switched sizes, materials and methods, it was a bit of a challenge. 😊 This project started because of a failed oil painting endeavour, but at least something good came out of it! I’m also trying to up my graphite pencil drawing game in this one, which I’ve been wanting to do for a while now. And there's a short tour of the Hortus Botanicus in Amsterdam included, because it's the subject of the last drawing. I hope you enjoy the video. Thanks in advance for watching!
The materials used for all the drawings are:
Pencils: Faber-Castell 0.5 mm mechanical pencils, hb and 2b leads
Paper: Daler Rowney Smooth Heavyweight paper, 220 gsm
Filming was done on a Samsung Galaxy S10+
Editing was done in iMovie on an iMac
The thumbnail was made with Affinity Designer (affordable Photoshop, highly recommend!)
    Music:
"Piece of mind" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)

I love these drawings! I used to do architectural drawings when I was in design school. This brings back memories! Lovely drawings!

I was so excited when I saw you posted another video! and boy was I not disappointed, four beautiful pencil drawings. I've always loved just pencil sketches but there was always a weird part of me that told myself it was never "fancy" enough to share or show but with this past year doing more plain air things and just sketching buildings and other places in my town for me to just have record for myself I learned that pencil drawing for me is like my safe space in a way. Although I have the opposite problem of yours as where you have a hard time drawing small I have a hard time drawing large lol. but I have to say my favorite was the greenhouse. I love the mix with buildings and plants and its over all composition was amazing as well.

Hi Kelsey. Thanks! Yeah, I've fallen in love with pencil drawing as well, by now. Especially when making fully finished drawings, however small they may be. And being able to erase things for once has been a bit of a relief as well, lol. (Not the case with fineliners.) And yes, I do think most people have it the other way around, big vs. small, but in either case, it's probably just what we're used to. Going big is fun, though, using sweeping, expressive lines and all that. Are you still getting out there, or mostly creating from home? I'm a homebody myself at the moment, but I do hope to get back out there in December.

@@suzand. Since the weather here has gotten colder I have been inside more. But with all the photos I did take on some of my walks I have a lot of references photos to use, so I should be able to stay busy until things begin to warm up again here. I did try and do a pencil piece of tree close to how you do yours lol lets just say you do them better but it was still fun to try. Been into colored pencil again, they where my first love when I was a child.

@@Littlewitchkels I'm always happy enough to work from reference photos as well! Indoors or outdoors, as long as we keep busy, right? ☺

Your art work is amazing, the line details are brilliant, I love to study your videos and most of the time I don’t get to read the wording, would there be a chance you could speak during or voice ove the video, that would be brilliant, it’s probably hard enough doing the videos without talking over it also 😆, thank you for sharing with us , your amazing

Hi and thank you! Glad you're enjoying the videos. Voice-over-wise, I actually agree with you, that would be more fun and easier to follow along. Especially as I'm quite wordy and explainy (well aware!)
Unfortunately, I've had some medical issues which affected my speech. Not a fun topic, I know, so I tend to avoid it in general on UA-cam, as people mostly come here to enjoy themselves. On the positive side of things, my Dutch has almost fully returned by now. I sound quite like myself again. My English however, not so much... Way more difficult to pronounce, although I am getting better. But I'm not sure it will ever be up to scratch again, so voice-overs might never happen. I am thinking about doing a little drawing video in the future with a one-time-only Dutch voice-over to explain matters. With subtitles and a trigger warning, obviously. I'm not sure yet... 🤔
On a final note: You're the second person I've talked to about this in the UA-cam comments, and as I said then, I'm still trying out this topic in public. So you're kind of a test subject! 😁 If that makes you uncomfortable, do let me know. That is not my intent at all, and I'll delete my comment right away. Anyhoo, thanks for watching! ☺️

@@suzand. I don’t make vlogs and it’s easy for me to ask but to do it is probably hard, I’ve heard my own voice in home videos and I don’t like it 😕 what is more important is you keep bringing out your fantastic videos, you have really inspired me to pick up the pencils again, you’re truly inspirational and I thank you 😊❤️
