@@gemmawheelerI would live in this house in a heartbeat. Absolutely gorgeous. And I would listen to a 10 hour audiobook read by you. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. 💐
You, my dear lady, are one of the most clever, talented architects I've ever watched on UA-cam. Incredible how you came up with all these hidden storage spaces.
I live in Devon and saw this property on the local Spotlight news the other day. The first thought I had when I saw the item was "I wonder what Gemma would do with that property"... now I know! You were so inventive with your use of the limited space, I was convinced you'd need to add an extension at the very least. Thank you for another fascinating tiny house video 🙂👍
@@gemmawheelerI was so sure you were going to have to do an outside addition again, but then you didn’t! I think for any more usable space you’d have to dig! 😂 The only one of my favorite tiny house tricks you didn’t use was an elevator bed. Using some sort of hydraulic and/or crank system to haul the bed up into the loft space during the day, and down into the main space at night would be the only way I could live in something like this (I’m too old for lofts!). But that would require a lot of redesign, and it might ruin everything else. So impressed with this one!
Count me in - I would have made any bet, that Gemma would add some extension. To bring so much storage into this space and how it was done in detail, is creative and shows how much we still can make with older properties. No need to tear all the buildings down for newer ones - but not necessarily better ones.
I bought a "portable" Japanese tub, and it's life changing. The narrowness and increased depth means the water stays hot forever. It does present an increased risk of turning into a huge walking raisin, but it's worth it because it just soaks away all those homicidal urges that arise from news watching.
That's a lovely ultra-small home Emma ! A lot of smart ideas to maximize the space. This is where you understand that architect is a real job that not everyone can do.
14 sq metres is incredibly small but the design is simply brilliant. So functional & beautiful. I think a TV is so unnecessary these days. Love love love this bathroom - my favourite space.
Gemma - This was such an amazing design! The pull down cupboards are brilliant - when I see something like that, I often say: "Who thinks up these things?" When I saw the Japanese soaking tub I realized that I could have one in my small bathroom. I love your videos! Suzi
Beautiful! Especially love the bath with the Japanese tub and wood walls. The drop down shelves from the ceiling is the first time I've seen this. excellent idea.
Ingenious solutions! One common design--that of putting the bed up near the rafters--is something I personally would have trouble adjusting to over the long term. Besides the claustrophobic feeling, I don't like managing the sheets and blankets from that position. I did manage it during a week-long stay in a rental once, though I didn't have to fully make the bed during that time.
Just incredible. And this is the first tiny home I’ve seen that is as small as the Horsebox I plan to convert! Now I feel like it might just be possible! Wonderful!
Wow you have thought of everything. Because I am getting older I would do either a murphy bed with a comfy couch, not a bench, or a daybed with a Trundle. I would use the upper bedroom as storage that doesn't get accessed much. I Love all the natural light and the bathtub I awesome.
It is astonishing how you can cram so many amenities into such a tiny space and it doesn't LOOK cramped! This space looks so attractive and functional, and the idea of a Japanese bath is inspired! I love this series of projects!
Absolutely wonderful as always. My only teeny tiny niggle would be the practicality of the drop down storage spaces in the kitchen living area. Just being overly practical, I wonder if things would slide around, during the the raising and lowering off them. Not as neat, but high small open shelves running round any available wall would be my solution, and/or a small butchers block on wheels that can be moved around the place as mobile storage, work top/side table. I’m just joe public though, so don’t listen to me. Love your work, always excited to see you next video… 😊
I always love your work Gemma, but was surprised you jumped right into the renovation this time. Usually you do a lovely few moments of your analysis of the light, layout, and other considerations that guided your design. I missed that so much this time. I hope you haven't decided to remove those elements permanently. I'd happily watch a longer video to have them. As always though, your design are thoughtful and lovely. Thank you!
Thanks so much for that feedback. Those are still really important considerations that I use. Sometimes on spaces this small, the only analysis possible is on how I can use the space efficiently without disrupting the attractive features like the big windows and the fireplace. So that's why I jumped straight in by starting with using the height of the space. But there'll be more analytical projects in future, most likely when there's more space to play with.
I love this one! What ingenious solutions. I only wish I could hire you to do my house but I live in a historic district in the US so the laws alone are complex. Which means I will be hiring someone local w the knowledge to steer me correctly.
I think this is an absolute genius design, literally the only thing that gave me pause was storing the hammock chair above to the kitchen as I wonder whether you might get problems from food smells and aerolised oil and grease, but there are definitely ways to avoid that. Love the use of the timber cladding in the bathroom contrasted with the clean white walls of the living space.
That is brilliant and beautiful. Probably my favourite so far, as the space is so tiny. What an imagination you have, Gemma. I'm learning so much. Thank you for your uploads.
Superlative! I love the imaginative solutions especially the Japanese bath not needing a shower curtain when using that function. It's always a discipline to live in such a tight area, but this is a joyful use of the natural qualities of the space.
Suggestion from a person who lives in a micro home... Vertical cupboards (like the one at bed or by the ladder) are a huge pain if doors need to be pulled out or lifted. Sliding doors are much better but in some cases an open space is far more functional. The cubbies built into the bed platform are also cool but where do the lids go? It's so easy to bang against stuff, knock things over, have stuff fall off the loft. I really dig that minimalist clean style you utilize but sometimes it's just not doable. Bathroom is amazing!! Always love your work.
Every time I watch one of your amazing designs, I am again blown away by how clever, yet how “simple” your solutions are Gemma. If I was in UK or Europe, and was in the position to become the guardian one of these delightful old buildings, I would head directly to you.
So good. Really functional and good looking. I couldn't imagine how you might fit in all those elements you listed in the beginning. I assume that the building hasn't actually been renovated in this way. It would need change of use. Be good to see if the new owners took on board these ideas. Nice one.
This is an amazing home again. For two frugal people with not too many possessions this could be a truly amazing home, or one person ... Clever solutions and a no nonsense approach to a fully functional beautiful bathroom makes this another smashing solution. Beautiful work yet again.
