Just what I needed today. I love her journals. She gives me courage to live alone and try to be happy. Also, she is much prettier than the few pictures of her in her journals. You can see how full of passion for life she was. RIP May.
She was a complicated, textured, difficult, often hurtful woman who wrote deeply and intimately about her life as an artist and her struggles with anger, depression, manic behavior, and broken relationships without sentimentality. She held all her facets to the light.
May Sarton talks of Martha and Marita visits to make this film in her journal Recovering and here it is! A good surprise to find it. I’m a big fan of her journals, having read them all, over many years. I Admire her poetry too. Her novels not so much, having read only one, perhaps two! I enjoyed this video, not having heard her voice before. She is a good reader of poetry.
My only contact with Sarton is "A Journal of a Solitude," which presented itself while I browsed a used bookshop. (Don't all books do this? ) This film proves Sarton's authenticity: she is the same on the page as she is in person. A reader has a childlike hope that a hero or heroine is true to the qualities assigned in a story or legend. The adult who closes the book would find it miraculous that her work is a true introduction to the woman and artist. Doesn't every viewer feel they could sit down for coffee with her without the anxiety that comes with a first meeting? Thanks to Ms. Wheelock and Ms. Simpson. Your film has the same tone and quality of the series "Voices and Visions."
Bongiorno! E in particolare Phoenx again. No, sicuramente non fui solo io a leggere The Tailor of Gloucester di Beatrix Potter, a pensarci bene. Io & Harry Potter. Se non si torna a Beatrix Potter ne The Tailor of Gloucester, non si puo' capire May Sarton.

Thank you for this!
Loneliness: the pain of being alone. Solitude: the joy of being alone. (Paul Tillich)

Beautiful of being one's self and writing diligently.

What enlightened person is so obsessed w/ their own life?
