The ones I've thrown were approximately 13/4/0/3. It flew like a Boss but less glide, less turn, and more nose angle sensitive. You'd have to throw it like 425 to start seeing any turn, and it was marketed as a beginner disc when it was released.
Great to see you leaping into the fire to do a review of this disc :D I like the detail you show in your review regarding disc shape and especially rim shape, I just wish you would include video of actual throws like most reviewers do, but that could just be because I'm not able to go out and throw properly in the winter here because of all the snow so any discflight I see is a bonus.
I got a Champion Groove in a lot and it was ridiculously overstable for a backhand. On a forehand I was able to get a pretty good distance, but still flew rather overstable. I do really like the grip on a forehand shot though. I lost it and ended up getting another one. It was another champion and this one flew closer to the numbers. I guess it just depends really on the disc you are able to pick up.
I've bagged one of these for years. Kind of meat hook-ish when I started but as I developed arm speed i could get some good flat then strong finish shots. Also feels nice in my giant spider hands. Get made fun of a bit but works for me!
Has been my favorite and go to disc since it came out.. have only been able to backhand it as of the last few years.. different weights fly different. I think I am on number 12 now lol.
I found a groove on a course once, unmarked. I played with it on some of the water holes. And I thought it felt very Understable, I eventually hit a tree with it and it bounced into the water to not be seen again. It might've been good on a hyzer angle because I really only threw it flat or anhyzer. But to me it didn't seem great, not awful tho. Weird to see people say it flew over stable for them
one criticism was that the lip is sharp and starts cutting the fingers after throwing. I would use a soldering iron to soften and flatten the edge to make it less sharp. I have one in the post and will see for myself how it flies, handles. I can throw a regular frisbee about 100m; this should go farther
flyingfishsurf no I won't be carrying it. But with over 125 disc reviews only a small percentage end up in my bag based on my needs and throwing style.
I've thrown two, both 175g... one was flat and probably like a shorter Boss. decent flip up forehand. decent glide. the other domey and flew like a Max. no glide at all. For me the rim just feels wonky.
Great job. Debunking the myth. Maybe if some had done what your doing now, it probably would not get a bad reputation. Sometimes it can be the player, not the Disc. As you have said previously, arm speed experience are other factors involved.
My brother uses a Champion Monarch at 173 grams for throwing hard it rolls on shots. Monarch is a odd disc you either love it or hate it. I can't do anything with Monarch but my brother can. It has not much glide so the disc just lands when it dies on power unless you are rolling with the said disc.
Good question, not too far off from other stable high speed stuff, im drawing a blank on specific molds, maybe like a boss with less distance? Havent throw a boss in a while tho
I had a Groove for awhile when I first stated playing. was overstable at first but as I improved I got nice s shots out of it, was never my favorite or a go to driver.
I love this thing. Sidearm only. Lower weights are better. 167 is my favorite. Crazy no one likes these. I can throw this 400 sidearm. Which is farther than my rhbh. Sidearm only lol. I will take all your grooves off your hand. Close to 167
Best FH disc ever made in my opinion

Henrik Österberg I hear ya and I appreciate the respectful and constructive criticism but I have no plans to include throwing footage in my reviews.
WOW! For everything I have heard about this disc (I never have thrown one) the comments are positive to my surprise.
Yah based on my testing of this particular Groove I dont think it deserves its bad rep

the Groove flies like a brick
The Realm ouch
The Realm ouch
I had a max weight groove that flew like a firebird. It was a go to forehand disc
Mcbeth said in an interview that he likes the way the groove flies.
I have a groove and I throw it pretty well. I never have had a problem with it. Great review! Thanks.
thanks for watching Jordan

This disc 170 grams by the way. If you guys have experience with Grooves feel free to share here in the comments.

How hard is a *Yellow* champion disc to find in grass?
Not bad. Yellow is a good color overall especially more neon yellows

I'm hoping for a Blizzard Groove. With extra oxygen, it should burn even better. Bottom line----is it in your bag?

The groove is a fantastic disc for forehand shots and tomahawks. The "groove" does allow for some different finger placement from other discs.
I could definitely see this disc being a good forehand disc, if only I could throw a forehand lol
Disc Golf Nerd yes the "grove" makes for a great 2nd rim for finger placement for the flick.

That seems to align with my theory of the inconsistency leading to the grooves awful rep
Old video but I found one of these last week and wow was it overstable. It was yellow champion plastic as well coincidentally.
Funny I actually just got a new one to do an updated review of this disc. We have 4 total to test this time
My blasts orange groove is my first distance driver and it flies far

Cheers Steven thanks for your continued support
Have you ever tried it's little sibling the Monarch?
I havent no, but I feel like they have a much better reputation. My buddy used to throw one way back in the day but I haven't tested one myself.

what other disc(s) would you compare it to?
Good question, not too far off from other stable high speed stuff, im drawing a blank on specific molds, maybe like a boss with less distance? Havent throw a boss in a while tho
Degenerative Disc
I looove this disc. I can throw this thing farther than any disc in my collection
Good review Nerd!
Thanks Carl
the groove is a great snapping disc If u have the arm for it the rim compares to the innova monarch as back hand it's a great hyzer bomber for me
disc ninja S man this disc is a roller disc If u got am arm! Its the same as a shryke
I had a Groove for awhile when I first stated playing. was overstable at first but as I improved I got nice s shots out of it, was never my favorite or a go to driver.
Really? We don't get to see it fly?
I like the color of that one.
That's about it.
I've got an American flag dyed groove that I only use for forehand rollers! I still will make groovy jokes though... lol..
That's an old model groove with the box around the flight numbers
New ones fly different?

i could use a skipping disc.
Nice intro!
Thanks
This disc is like an older shryke!
I can throw it well, but it eats your finger on a forehand.
I dislike the groove.
