Totally agree with you. Never seen a dead butterfly in mint condition lying on forest floor, rather never seen a dead butterfly on forest floor. Thanks for stating the truth.

Thank you for sharing the truth. Good to know that the place where I bought mine was lying to me.

I have personally found butterflies, bees and moths all in perfect condition dead and I have pinned them.
I do it myself so I don’t need to support crooks

Thank you for being so open about the butterfly farming proces. I’ve recently started mounting butterflies and found all suppliers stating that their specimens have died of natural causes. But then all the envelopes I receive have the butterfly’s thorax pinched.
Could you explain a bit more about how butterfly breeding helps to support the conservation of the forrests?
Doesn’t the breeding happen in a facility rather than the open forrest? So when you have a few live butterflies you can keep breeding them in captivity?
Thanks again and keep the vids coming 👍🏻

Thanks for your comment. One small clarification. The pinching of the thorax is usually not detectable after the fact. The shrinking of the abdomen however is visible and this may be what you are referring to. If the person processing the butterfly is trained properly in the art of preservation, their should be minimal shrinkage or deflation. Most bred specimens are given an injection of hot water rather than a pinch because of their size.
As to the other point you've raised, I'm going to respond by providing you a link that will really help answer your query. insetti.altervista.org/articoli/orsak.htm

@@Butterfly_Art_Studio thank you for clearing up the proces. Indeed it concerns flattened abdomen, so I guess it is shrinkage taking place. The article you sent was very informative, thanks! 🙏🏻

Thank you for sharing. I would honestly love to purchase mounts of the parents with their tattered wings, I think it gives them character and knowing they lived a full life makes me even happier to display them

I don’t think it’s right to say the parents are trash… Some are willing to buy truly naturally deceased specimens, and some are willing to buy and work with them….

I wonder if it’s false advertising or ignorance on the sellers part. Not sure which is worse. Annoys me to no end regardless…

It's definately false advertising. One would have to suspend all rational faculties to believe it's possible that such fragile creatures would reach old age without damaging its wings despite fluttering about throughout the environment. These artists work with the specimens and they know exactly that even blowing on them can break their wings. 💯% it's intentionally lying to make a profit.

@@Butterfly_Art_Studio I also see some sellers advertising that all their insects are farmed, while selling species that are not farmed anywhere in the world or cannot be farmed...

@@vineleak7676 absolutely correct. These are also liars. And it's good that you've pointed that out. I will make mention of it in future videos.

I think and important distinction here is that Saturniid moths typically age much faster than butterflies. I’ve never killed butterflies that I have framed and I only frame one that are near perfect or in perfect condition. I keep them in smaller containers and they do not rip their wings often. I think male Saturniids especially will become extremely active in search of mates and tear wings quite easily.
Basically my point is it’s possible to give butterflies a complete life and use them for framing. You just might not get as many perfect ones I suppose.

I understand the truth, but the butterflies collected for scientific purposes a lot of the times are wild caught and have damaged wings.
