Went there in the 1980s on my first road trip with my own car with my school friends. We were only climbing 5c. But it was intimidating. A holiday I’ll never forget. We went north to south (from the UK). Saussois, Buis le Barronies, Buoux, Mont Sainte Victoire, and Verdon as the finale.
Magique =)
Great to see this video. We just came back from the Verdon. We showed our kids where their parents climbed in the mid-nineties/early 2000. Showed them the tunnels, the Belvédères, some of the routes we did, La Palud, pizza Pepino, Lou Cafetie, the campground, we even saw Bernard Gorgeon playing petanque (but we didn't know that at the time, just found out watching the video!). I have great memories climbing in the Verdon, and now I even have some more...
"but when there are pitons every meter it's a pity....there is less need to be focused." YES! This. Thank you, Catherine. Loved the Verdon Gorge during my climbing travels in France during the mid-nineties. True adventure and beauty. I'd never experienced any place quite like it. Adventure sport climbing.
we climbed there at the early 80tis. We climbed there so much,-- we loved it so much. Who renember Jean Paul from the Campground? Verdon is the best!!!
Yes you're right Peter, this campground was surely as famous as camp 4 in Yosemite. There was this specific atmosphere, people from all over the world talking together wearing pink or purple trousers ! We generaly started to speak about the routes we did the days before and conversations turned rapidely into more philosophical or esoterical subjects ! There was no frontier between our activity and our lifes, climbing was the life . Great moments for sure
. Sinon, c'était toujours cassé.
This film sadly does not do justice to such an iconic climbing mecca; listening to people yammering on about the pros & cons of the different climbing styles that have been in/out of fashion over the past five decades gets tedious after about two minutes. I will say that the cliff panoramas/visuals were fantastic.

exactly what I was thinking. Couldnt watch more after 10 minutes of just seeing that annoying logo everywhere.
