Yeah, seems a lot of folks don't like it, and though I know his hair kinda throws it off, with some adjustments it can look pretty good in my opinion. Hendrix did have different looks and hairstyles, so it just depends on which look you're really going for. I can make it work with some tweaking or in worst case, use the bonus hat which I think I will do to utilize all that he came with. With the hat I think he looks pretty good too.
I know I'm late on the jump but I cant wait to get Jimi Hendrix to add to my collection. maybe next month sometime. He will look great next to my 1/6 scale figure icons
He's great for any Jimi Hendrix fan, but a bit disappointing when it comes to his hair. If you liked what you saw in this video, then you'll be okay, but most people seem to not be too happy about his hair which I will try to mess with and fix to my liking someday. ;)
@@MarlotheCollector his hair doesn't really bother me as much as his pants does. They should be more flared because it feels 1965 / 1966-ish, and another thing is that I wish there was an alternate head sculpt with a blank expression . End of the day. It's a great figure though 💖
@@MarlotheCollector I looked at some more real photo of Jimi Hendrix on google and to be honest his hair actually does look 80% accurate. Just a little too brown. That's pretty much it
@@TheJordanHunt3r I agree about the pants and extra head sculpt idea! That would've made this set all the more awesome! Glad the hair doesn't bother you as much as it seems it's the main thing people mention about this figure. I'm cool with it myself and it just needs the proper futzing and posing.
Hey Marl9, do you think this is worth it? I have on PO but havent paid off because im not in love with the reviews ive been seeing. Whats your opinion on headsculpt etc?
Man, this is really a tough call. After going over it for awhile, I'm okay with this figure and am still happy to have it. I was hoping to be more thrilled about it, but in the end it's just okay. For the price it's a bit lacking in comparison to stuff you might get from maybe a company like Hot Toys, but then again, it probably has something to do with the licensing and the outfit is pretty ornate. I have other reasons for getting this as I could never afford the Serang Kim version released years ago, but I did get some extra pieces such as alternate Serang Kim Hendrix heads that I could maybe swap out someday. For some reason his hair bugged me most and I found that part to be most disappointing, but I suppose I can try to tweak it. I actually think he looks fine with it with the hat on. Hendrix did have different hairstyles, so I suppose if you like this look for him, then it'll work as well. Hopefully my video review will help you decide if you'll like it. I still think it's worth it as the Serang Kim version was like $1,500 back in the day, so compared to that this is great compromise. ;)
Hey Marlo cool figure to some degree with good paint apps and the cloths being hard to get when your talking kitbash .That hair is going to be hard to shape the way Hendrix hair was because it was parsial curls and full curls .....messy afro .in my opinion you will have to create that look my cutting the hair in some areas to get that half curl look around that big mass simply being that dolls plastic hair unlike fur is very hard to style ...or get a Hendrix sculpted hair from another source ! Good luck brother with your solution ...Good review as always brother....Catch ya!!
Yeah, the hair is the only thing that messes up this particular figure. Hendrix did have many hairstyles and he may have sported something similar to this, but it's not his more iconic look as there is just too much of it. If I can't thin it out somehow, I'll probably just keep him with his hat on as it would be a shame not to display that extra accessory as well. My other options are to replace the hair if I have extra left from Serang Kim or just replace the whole head with my extra also from Serang that I still need to paint up as seen in my old video here: ua-cam.com/video/gqmH93duiqA/v-deo.html
seen it in person today at toy tokyo didnt like it....they should do one in the white indian type outfit and at least two head sculpts because this one I dont like that is why I didnt get it
Omg! That Hair! I was so excited for this guys since I’m a huge Jimi Hendrix fan and saw this in person at SDCC 2019 yet this looks like a knock off of that figure! So glad I saw your review for I’m passing on this! Not worth the price! I rather get a Jimi Hendrix Stratocaster than this
I'm most likely display him with the hat on if I don't go ahead and modify the hair myself somehow. It's too bad they dropped the ball on this one, but for me I can still salvage it to go along side my Montery outfit version by Serang Kim. I also do have some extra custom head sculpts by him with I can also try to swap out otherwise, so for me it was still a decent buy. But yeah, still disappointing for others that expected better. I never saw the prototype, at least I don't remember seeing it, so I don't know how much better that one was.
This figure definitely is lacking. Have had mine a month and am still in two minds whether to keep or move on. The head can look great in certain light, but yeah that hair is awful. Have seen it cut shorter and it looks better but still not right imo. Think it would be better with sculpted hair or the type of synthetic wool/yarn used on the serang one and the cheap spare head I have. Gunna try switching things out to see if anything works better. Also as you said the legs are too muscular as is the rest of the body and its too short by about 10-15 mm. I think blitzway have dropped in quality since their earlier releases like carlito and scarface There is still alot of good points like the clothing and accessories but again they cheaped out with the plastic mic stand base, why use some metal and use a plastic weak base? Anyway dont wanna be a drag man lol and am sure you can swap out the head on yours and make it work. Think mines getting a new body, new hair and if no joy its going on ebay. Someone will probably do a better head sculpt, only a matter of time
Yeah, was definitely disappointed too, but I'm also hopeful I can salvage it for the good points you mentioned. It is mainly the hair that messes it up for me. I think I have some leftover hair material that I got from Serang Kim when I got his custom Hendrix. And if that doesn't work, I can keep him displayed with his hat on which I think looks pretty good as it would be a shame to not use that bonus hat. My last resort is I also have a spare head sculpt from the Serang Kim that I may also use, so for me I mainly wanted the suit and accessories more than anything else. Of course would've been nice if they hit this out of the park like past releases that you mentioned. I have the Carlito, Scarface, and Ghostbusters which I think all came out amazing! I would've picked up their Hannibal if I didn't already have a great custom of him too.
I never got to see the prototype, but even so, I am disappointed with how they did his hair. I do have Montery outfit custom version by Serang Kim, so I wanted this version to display along side that. Luckily I do have extra heads from Serang and hair which I can hopefully use to modify this someday, otherwise I'll display him with the hat which I think helps hide the funky hair. So for me it's still worth it instead of the $1,500 Serang Kim version, but for most other fans, it might not be worth it.
I was just about to drop $300 on this figure, but after seeing your review and another, changed my mind. Figure looks like Hendrix but not as detailed as the photos/advertisements. The skin color is much lighter in the review and the hair looks horrible here.
If I didn't already have my custom version by Serang Kim, I'd probably be disappointed too, but I do have plans to make the most of this and hopefully I can still fix his hair as I think the head sculpt is fine.

Not sure if it's getting rare, but it's been over a year or 2 since I picked this up, so I'd imagine he's getting harder to find now.
