- Sarah Everard was abducted by London police officer Wayne Couzens as he falsely arrested her for breaching Covid guidelines.
Couzens drove for several hours before raping and strangling her, and setting fire to her body.

I would put money on him previously raping/coercing women into doing things to be let off of "crimes" using his position but this went wrong. We’ve heard very little about his family, I wonder how this all went down for them.
I got stopped one night just after midnight by two police man, (a few years ago.). nobody was around!.. both were dressed in football tops, in an unmarked police car. I was so reluctant to get out of the car.. they kept telling me they were police!.. (and it wasn't that far, from where this girl was abducted.). they had to call a marked car because, I wouldn't get out of the car.. they did turn out be police.. but at night time, it is scary, when you are on your own!.. take care out there..

CCTV is pretty significant, in rural areas there's very little but in a big city its everywhere. There might be more CCTV in this case which is too upsetting to be released.

1) Resist Arrest Calmly and Refuse HandCuffs.
2) Ask For A Female Officer / two other male officers to be called for. Should this request be denied, Call 999 to Submit the required yourself.
3) Do Not Enter any vehicle untill additional officers arrive.
4) if No additional officers are available, request the arresting officer to walk with you in public to the nearest police station.
5) if signalled to whilst driving by a lone officer, drive on to nearest police station or a busy public area.
6) Call family to let them know what is happening and where you are

Absolutely horrific. I can only imagine how frightened she was when she realized she was being driven well out of London, not to a police station as he would have made her think at first, and was handcuffed, strapped into the seat and was completely powerless and at his mercy.
One of the worst things for me is that once she realized she was being kidnaped she would naturally have assumed that her abductor had been faking being a police officer to get her into the car. It probably never dawned on her that he in fact a real police officer all along.

The fact that he booked the hire car in his own name, took his mobile with him which left a digital signature and went to London of all places, which has masses of cctv cameras, to abduct someone off the street shows not only how stupid he is, but more frighteningly how depraved he was. As a police officer he has an extra awareness and would surely have realized there was a massive, overwhelming possibility of him being tracked down but he was so sick and twisted that he acted anyway as his true character had completely taken hold of him.
I am glad he got a full life tariff. Good job on the detectives who caught him and my thoughts and prayers go to Sarah's family who have been so dignified through all of this. I hope that knowing this filth will never be released brings to them some small piece of comfort.

@paul c But he did wear a mask and no one batted an eyelid. The police must have done a thorough investigation and went to every shop in the area checking CCTV, he could have been dressed as a builder but the police would have seen through that cunning disguise.
He purchased all of the materials for disposing of the poor girls body afterwards which indicates that he never planned to kill. Theres a very strong chance he has raped and coerced before though

I'm from India, and there are so many such cases take place here in a year. We often see in news that a girl has been raped and murdered. And I worry about women safety in this country.
But after seeing that this type of event took place in a country like UK too, it really shattered my heart.

@@danielshannon961 that’s not necessarily the main concern. Surely the main concern is dealing a fitting punishment which he needs to endure for the crime he committed. If you kill the man it will be over within a matter of seconds. If you hang him (if done right) then it will break his neck and it will be essentially instant and painless. Doesn’t really sound like a fitting burden to me. What sounds more difficult is for him to endure his entire life inside a cell, for decades to come, knowing the evil of what he did and that he will never be released.

I wonder how many times before this man had prowled the streets looking for a victim. I wonder how many other crimes he has committed before this? Because it's pretty unusual for evil killers to go from zero offences straight to murder. Being a police officer may mean that there are other women who have been approached by him or sexually assaulted by him but have been too scared to come forward because of his position as a police officer. This is just so awful and what her poor parents are going through is beyond my imagination. Even if Couzens was acting normally in the car, she must have known something was wrong when he started driving away from London, and when you start to think about that it just makes it even more horrific. The other victims in this are the Couzens family, imagine their lives now. If he has children, imagine what they have to live with and carry around with them for the rest of their days. You think your husband/father is a good honest law abiding man who goes to work everyday to help people when the truth is the complete opposite. He has taken one life but destroyed many more, Sarah Everard's family and his own

But what’s so striking about the video is how a story can come together in this age with collaborative use of peoples home doorbell cameras and cctv, bus cameras, petrol station cameras, amazing really isn’t it. His collegue, superiors all need to be interviewed, i believe their more to it am sure their alot more going on behind closed doors

Judging by how quickly he was caught, I would say he was already under suspicion of another murder/abduction.. something tells me it's not his first time

Nothin is going to happen for him in prison. It's probably a group of same minded people like him, other Police/pedophiles/rapists to joke around with. Also he gets 3 meals per day, a shower, some ps5 time, 1 hour outside and no more 29k debt to re-pay. Easy life for Wayne.

Me too , sometimes I watch the news & get ashamed to be a man , I’m a single father with 2 young daughters & I never let them invite there friends round for a sleepover or anything, it’s wrong that in today’s world we’re not always fully trusted but I understand it

pathetic human being - my heart bleeds not just for this young woman's family but for this man's wife and children who are also scarred by his horrid actions.
Seeing her in the shop etc, made it hit home, the realism of how terrified she must've been.
She looked so innocent and unaware in that shop.

There's re's is something so unbelievably harrowing and haunting about the bus camera that passes by as he falsely arrests her on the pavement. Her body language with hands by her side is one of innocence, too, no gesturing of disbelief or resistance, just defencelessness and compliance, highlighting even more the abuse of power as an officer. But the way it's been filmed by the bus cam and now knowing what eventually happened, God I wish she was on that bus that filmed the footage in the first place. Truly tragic. I lived on that road for years and was so familiar with that exact spot. Why was there no CCTV on one of the busiest roads in London? Why rely on dash-cam footage? Poor family, their statements were so palpably heartbreaking.
I think the fact she'd been visiting a friend that night during lockdown made it more likely she believed it was a legitimate arrest.
