Well guys, even AC7 had its dark moment. Look at the osean retreat from Tyler Island, the erusean radicals there massacred belkan refugees. Of course you can ear that from the radio chatting, still is disturbing to think about it.
"That's not a weapons factory! What are you doing!?" Sheesh, this mission was all sorts of fucked up. The Allies indiscriminately blasted the city to hell while the Belkans adopted a scorched earth policy. And the poor civies got caught in the crossfire.
And what did I find, stirring so far deep? What cruel grin, what insatiable lust? I gazed and gazed yet could not see, Nor put name to all the terrors of the beast.
It makes you wonder what the belkans did at the opening stages of the conflict for osea to despise them so much. I mean, sure those fighting learn to hate them because their watching their friends die and all, but for such hatred to come to a full on carpet bombing of a populated civilian town. I wonder what the belkans did to those living in occupied lands, and what war crimes they committed.
I've had time to think about it, and...every action has a reaction. Not everyone is going to take what they suffered at the hands of others with such restraint. Plenty can face against themselves and hold back their anger with sheer will even, after years of mastering their emotions. But not everyone is mentally strong enough as such people, all that hatred built up from within is going to get released somewhere.
I actually looked at the cutscenes and found a pretty damning video of Belkan actions early-war: Four B-2 Spirits flying in formation. If you can't see the significance of that, consider that the B-2 can carry a LOT of Precision-Guided Munitions. Enough PGMs, in fact to hit pretty much every target you need to in _China_ in one sortie with those four bombers much less a small country like Ustio. In other words, there was no way those bombers were headed on a precision-bombing mission. They were going to plaster a city with all 80 tonnes of ordnance in their bomb bays which, mind you, London got plastered with 100 tonnes of ordnance during the Blitz ...which lasted for a little less than 8 months. Let that sink in for a second.
I think it was less hatred, and more a *very* coldly pragmatic solution from Osea to remove Belka’s capability and infrastructure to wage war so that they could never threaten Osea again. Worth noting that in the series lore, this wasn’t the first time Osea and Belka fought each other. The commander of the B-52 squadron outright states that their mission was to eliminate Belka’s ability to counterattack, hence why they switched from precision bombing to saturation tactics.
