    This is the first video I watch talking about how to become a data analyst that doesn't mention the google data analytics certificate. I am at the end of the 5th course of the program and now I realize that certificate doesn't teach you enough to get a job as a data analyst.

    If you get good with excel and powerbi, chances are you wont even need to learn SQL and python yet to start a junior data analist job.
    Granted the company has data scientists/engineers, it's more than likely there is already a SQL or some other kind of database set up which you can connect to with excel and powerbi to do your analytics. Powerquery within excel and powerbi is insanely powerful and easy to learn.
    lastly, people focus on hard skills but soft skills are equally, if not more, important. Don't forget this.

    This is one of the best video of (How would i start over} type. jam packed info yet simple language is a hard recipe to master. Besides doing MS or intertrasfer what are the ways for people like me who wants to come over in the US for data analyst job? 1) You could make a separate YT video asking foreign employees at your office how did they join the US office. Their is a huge audience seeking such kind of information, Because many cannot afford MS in the US. 2) which laptop would u recommend- windows or mac?

    Between 1:45 - 3:10 honestly just getting straight to the portfolio items matters more than getting a bunch of certifications. Demonstration vs theory is very different and you will be far in sync with how things really work by simply more fumbling through creating a portfolio item then by just doing a certification.
    For some reason people want to avoid that part and think that a piece of paper both for a certification and degree will change that you can do it... especially if it solves a related issue to the industry you want to break into by documenting it and showing your journey like you are right now.

    90% of the data analyst job postings that I see require a bachelor's or master's degree. Check yourself and you'll see.. Yes you can do it without a degree but there's certain jobs that won't even allow you to apply as a data analyst if you don't have one of those degrees just saying.

    • @JackCalvinRoss
      @JackCalvinRoss  2 роки тому

      Just because they say you need it doesn’t mean they require it. Above all, they need to know you have the skills to do the job and you can prove that through side projects and the technical interview. The job I have currently suggested bachelors or masters degree on the job posting and I have neither.
      It’s for sure harder to do without a degree but still definitely possible.

    I started with R and im quite proficient in it, how much weighting would you put on python if i already previously used R for other jobs.

    • @JackCalvinRoss
      @JackCalvinRoss  2 роки тому +1

      I would definitely prioritize learning SQL over Python if you’re already proficient in R.
      Some jobs might force you to use specifically Python, R, or Excel, but most places just let you use whichever tool you need to get the analysis done. If you’re good with manipulating data in R, focus on improving your SQL skills!

    Hey bro, did you put your incomplete degree on your resume? I dropped out of college. I was wondering I should include it on my resume.

    • @JackCalvinRoss
      @JackCalvinRoss  Рік тому

      I do have my incomplete degree on my resume. Mainly because while I was at university I took a lot of statistics classes which a lot of employers really like to see for analytics roles.
      If you feel like you have enough of a reason to include it, definitely do. It helps give the employer a better idea of your story and the reasons why you chose to do a coding bootcamp. (And honestly I think it definitely helps with getting past automated resume checkers.) Most interviews I’ve done haven’t focused too much on my education as much as the projects that I’ve worked on and in some cases have never been asked if I competed my degree. (Doesn’t really matter when you’ve built cool stuff and can rock a coding interview!)
      Sorry for rambling, I’ve just thought a lot about this myself. Thanks for watching and good luck with the job search!!
