@TRAMWAYS D'ÎLE-DE-FRANCE carrement. En plus cette video n a aucun sens, personne n a jamais dit que c etait un tram. La seule chose qui rapproche cette ligne d une ligne de tram est la frequence des bus...
Welcome to Nantes, Beno !
Yes, we like public works in Nantes 😁 it's to adapt the Busway line for Hess 24m with TOSA system, which will all be in service before 2020!
They're 18 Citaro G CNG in service at the same time at most, for 23 busway in total (22 Hess bi-articulated orders). The best frequency is 2min30 for these line (same than line 1 of tram)
PS : the Busway is a Bus Rapid Transit (Bus à Haut Niveau de Service in french)
and soon a hydrogen bus in Pau
@@Votsh64 yes, Van Hool Exqui.City 18 to Pau! But, it's not Nantes 😁

Bonjour
Well, it does have faster acceleration, so of course it would work
i still waiting for bus that thinks it is metro
Come to brisbane in 2023 cos that’s what we’re getting. (The new vehicles that Nantes is getting except built to look like a tram and having a turn up and go timetable. Called the Brisbane Metro. [it was meant to be a rubber tyres metro but we ran out of money and it’s more flexible being on rubber tyres so it’s bEtTeR? Idk])
(Rubber tyres without tracks)
@@ash-ok6dr there IS a track, but there's only one in the center of the lane where a special guide wheel when fits into. I'm also assuming the wheel is connected to the axle to make sure it turns properly at switches and bends.
so we've had a confused tram stop, now a confused bus, what's next?
A confused taxi rank that thinks its an airport

In Poitiers, France, there is no tram, only buses with some dedicated lanes, mostly just painted lanes.
But there is one place, a viaduct, that is dedicated to buses (bikes have the right to go on it, taxis take the right to go on it, but it's a bus only road before all).
And this viaduct has the same kind of traffic lights. Same Tram-style traffic lights, same Stop sign, same red blinking red lights on the road.
Except there was no plan of installing a tram (at least at my knowledge) and Poitiers doesn't have any.
Maybe High level service buses also have this kind of lights (It was supposed to be the first step of a cancelled High level service bus project).
EDIT : If you are curious and want to watch it with Google Maps as you did for other locations, the place is covered by Street View !
Search "Viaduc Léon Blum" in Poitiers and you'll be able to see the whole way and the traffic lights there !

There are a lot of these systems in France. You should visit the one Nancy, it uses double-articulated vehicles with rubber wheels that can go both on a rail and by themselves like a regular bus. It's like a tram and a bus had a baby.
The "tram signals" you mention are really just "public transport signals" in many countries. In Germany we also have lots of them just for buses.
Isn’t the one in Nancy just a dressed-up trolleyway?
Remember the Firstbus Leeds about ten years ago with their FTR bendi buses? They referred to drivers as "pilots" and conductors as "customer service hosts"
Just like Almere in the Netherlands where they call their busses metro's.
Ja klopt ik woon daar
They bought Hess Lighttram double articulated buses to replace these articulated Citaro buses.
Either way, both the citaros and Lighttrams are really nice busses...

Ah, Bus Rapid Transit. I am forever confused as of why you don't just build a tramway.
It requires far less initial investment and it is about as efficient, that's why.
Well done you have found the one
weird Bus rapid transit or Tram system in france after Nancy with the Bombardier TVR.
Yes is true
In Eindhoven is there such a system too (Netherlands)
LRT are Tram and this rubber tyres with wheels are BRT Bus lane their are different than Tram with light rail.
I really like the busway concept, reserved "track" but less costly infrastructure, many other cities could follow
Hey we could have more videos like this :)
The Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel used to be like this
Buses and trams ran in the same tunnel and shared stations
Lol very odd when the crossing lights come on people are like.. oooh a train is coming. *A Bus Passes Instead*
Craig F. Thompson how?
Craig F. Thompson ok cya
Well, it‘s cheap - in the short term! Bet the buses won’t last the 30 or so years that trams do, and they will take more maintenance.
If you do à tram, you wont have money for the other buses line/routes.
In my city Hengelo we’ve got a dedicated bus lane in some area’s of the town. In my neighbourhood the buslane has some crossings that are quite similair except they have a single orange flashing light with a bell signal. It’s like a simplified railroad crossing. Sadly one of the crossings turned out to be a widow maker as the husband of neighbour across the street was hit by a bus and it resulted into a fatal accident. He was a senior with a scooter and was still quite active for his age. The busses drive quite fast and on some crossings you can’t see the bus untill it get’s round the corner when it’s just a few meters away. Enschede also has a dedidacted bus lane like this and few years ago there where plans to turn the line between Hengelo and Enschede into a tramline but this has not happened so far. In the mid 2000’s when I was still a student I could get to the centre of Enschede straight from my local bus stop without having to go to Hengelo station first.
In my city Almere, they also got a dedicated bus lane. They're also called as ''Metrobussen''
In Nantes there are new e-busway vehicles, bigger and fully autonomous electric with batteries. New vehicles replace this old diesel bus, new e-busway is a Swiss electric bus with 3 parts ant TOSA recharge system on 4 stations, two on each terminus and two on middle of the line (more long more space, with usb sockets on all seats and wifi onboard)! Old busway are reused to create a seconde busway line, to replace classic chronobus line C5. Thix two lines with major changes are fully operational since April 2020 I think, now e-busway are on commercial tests, with possibility to access by public.
Metroway in the DC area is very similar, although some of the route runs in regular traffic. The busway uses tram signals but there are normal traffic lights for cross traffic. Metroway was originally planned as part of a tram line which was cancelled.
Oh no there's a special bus line in Shanghai that has even got platform doors!
Really. That sounds very interesting
@@benolifts Yeah. I kinda forgot the line.
@@benolifts Got it again. Line 71. ua-cam.com/video/OCG2h9ntMwc/v-deo.html
@@pixoosquare1086 That looks amazing. I want to go and see that.
Transjakarta also feature full bus shelters with psd’s although mostly broken, also very long footbridges you could imagine
This is the tram lacking budget XD
Why spend the money laying tracks and setting the eletric wires when this is about as efficient and far cheaper?
It's called a RBS (rapid bus system). Many cities use it.
@@desanipt i know but
it's a shame that it's not at least electric buses

the first 4 minutes i was laughing so hard :´D this is so funny :D
In Sevilla, Andalusia, Spain, there is a tram that thinks it's a metro
There's something going on like this in Ebbsfleet/Northfleet with fast track, and my uncle works for Kent County Council and he is planning the route
A new route, or the 2 existing routes. The fastrack routes are the same grade of system as nantes, but what makes nantes stand out is that they are using tram signals and wigwags, when all other bus rapid transit routes in the world use regular traffic lights.
It will be a new route I'm pretty sure
@@awesometrainsandbuses Is that the route through Ebbsfleet new housing area in the quarry opposite bluewater.
Yes it is
I think this is a bus rapid transit (BRT) system. In Israel, there a BRT system in Haifa, known as the Metronit.
It could be everywhere in the world.
But It's obviously France
A bus who thinks its a tram heading towards "Foch Cathedral", must be France!
I like your video beno
The Nantes busway looks daft.
mfw people are unable to identify decent RBT
The Nantes RBT has reserved lanes throughout the line, when it crosses an intersection it is given priority in the same way a train or tram would be.
@lwf51 Tramways have their uses, but only when there is sufficient demand along one route. BRT like this gives you the benefits of tramways (priority means that they get where they need to go very fast) without the cost associated.
It’s like EmX bus in Oregon. It uses tram signals etc and a bus way! In America we call these BRT, or bus rapid transit.
There is a similar system in the southern suburbs of Paris called the TVM - it is very similar to this system, with a dedicated system and a very long route. Buses are every couple of minutes - more frequent than Parisian trams!
Ok that is weird but they used very nice Citaros
For me, it's pretty normal, a lot of contries do that.
Because bus will be faster and sometimes, like in Dijon in France, they can't pass on the road (like if they need to go forward, the road can only go to the right so they must go on the "tram road" to go forward)
Sorry my english is a little bad, i'm french and i'm learning at school
I have seen several guided and non guided busways around the world, but this is the only one that uses tram signals.
The over exaggerated pedestrian stop lights are very odd for a road with just a bus on it.
The council probably do have enough money. But they are too lazy to build the full tramway.
What is the problem? Just because isn't over rail doesn't mean isn't as dangerous
@Craig F. Thompson I mean the only significant difference between a bus and a tram is that bus has rubber tires on asphalt, a tram has metal wheels on rails. If you think about that's not a big difference, why is it wrong to have a bus on a tram path?
@Craig F. Thompson You clearly don't understand what I am saying. This video shows a bus that works on a path that trams used. The owner of the video and some people are criticizing this behavior. What I mean with this comment is that there's nothing special about it, and for what concerns the protected/dedicated road trams and buses are the same
In Belgium we have now a “trambus” : a bus with 3 parts and they made it look like a tram
Calm down. It's just a bus rapid transit system. They've had these around the world for decades now.
The interesting point in the video is NOT that it is a bus rapid transit, there is one near me. The point is that it uses large WigWags to stop traffic for a bus.
@@benolifts I don't understand. Isn't that what you need for it to be rapid transit and facilitate future conversion to tram or light rail? Signal priority for the buses? Or is it the just the size of WigWags that is interesting?
There's the same system in Douai, France, near Lille
I just looked it up on google maps. Douai looks very interesting, and has a lot of road space taken up by the busway. it looks fast. It has tram signals, but it doesn't have wigwags andstarman lights. I don't know why Nantes has these, it is very over the top.
@@benolifts It's like the SNCF. The system goes in the wrong way, they take WTF decisions
In Swiss this is nothing special, its only in a Different Design.
great transport friendly facilities and very city planning

O.o MB Citaro O530G. Better as to walk.
it's a free tram, co it doesnt have rails
I don't see the problem. In fact I think this is good
And? What do you suggest? Long flying carpets?
@Craig F. Thompson Of course I did, I have a tram in my profile picture..
RBT seesm like a way better solution, than having to build tram tracks.
same busses in Alicante
No. Alicante has a real tram (streetcar) system, and the buses are just regular buses.
Why not have a trolleybus system, it's cleaner than desil buses
It seems like they ran out of money when building this. The system looks like it was intended to be much more than just a regular bus.
There’s one in Belfast (Glider)
It doesn't even have preference in intersections.
Martin Ožarek It’s still a BRT though...
BRT is much cheaper and prioritizing buses over cars is better for the city and tax payer ;)
As for it being nearly empty I can film random roads at random times and claim a busy street is empty ;)
@Craig F. Thompson I'm not an expert on costs in Europe but I'm 98% sure you are not correct. Have a link with figures comparing a real world implementations of similar size?
In the US, the tram is a bus.
In Soviet Russia, the bus is the tram!
@Craig F. Thompson
Or we use the term Streetcar, since it *drives on the street on rails.*
😂😂😂It is really a tram.
Good to see!!!!!!!!!!
Mdr tu sais à Nantes il y a des truc mieux que les bus
CT fastrack buses can leave their transitway to serve other places. maybe Nantes does that too.
The down side of bus rapid transit is that councils often talk about them being as good as a tram, but then often (in England) do the minimum amount of dedicated busway that they can get away with, and most of the route is on normal roads and is no faster than any other bus route. But at least that is not the case for the over engineered busway in this video.
@@benolifts A true BRT has its own way for all the line like a modern tram or a metro.
Maybe they could get trolleybuses
0:30 cheeky kickdown
Citaros don't do kickdowns
Older Citaros do tho
