- After an amazing day of hiking Sigiriya & Pidurangala, we are spending the day in Polonnaruwa. This UNESCO World Heritage site is the second ancient capital of Sri Lanka, after Anuradhapura, and houses many well-preserved ruins and Buddha statues. Home to many former Sinhalese kings and once the resting place of the holy tooth relic of Buddha. You will be wandering through ancient palaces, picturesque shrines, and impressive temples dating back to the 11th century AD.
Before planning our trip to Sri Lanka, we had never heard of Polonnaruwa and after visiting Anuradhapura we were wondering what to expect from yet another ancient city.
After this day we can only say WOW! This hidden gem really impressed us with its beauty and is absolutely worth visiting. The ruins are better preserved & many statues are in very good condition, compared to Anuradhapura, making it easier to get a glimpse of Sinhalese history. It offers an impressive collection of sights such as the Lankatilaka temple and the sacred Quadrangle. #srilanka #polonnaruwa #travelvlog #ancient #buddhism #cultural

Your blogging is really beautiful as beautiful as you both. Nowadays new generation of tourists hardly show interest in historical and ancient sites. Its a pity. Because these ancient cities are the best plan and built with excellent architecture with finner details in that era. Because Sri Lanka is a small island nation international media hardly make these cities known to public.

Don't forget to try out Kottu, the most famous street food in sri lanka.
We did try Kottu in Anuradhapura! Was the spiciest dish we tasted there 🤣 but super yummy.

Hey, we paid 5500 rupees for one day. The tuk-tuk drove us back and forth to Polonnaruwa, and also around inside the ruins. Keep in mind this was in 2022 and prices might have gone up since then. Are you planning to go?
