I remembered this final night performance all too well ...... After that thunderous introduction the north stand was swaying and rocking throughout this arrangement ...... At the end no one could have seen the band on stage due to the dust in the air..... It was well received by both north and grand stands ..... A winner that night on the lips of most ..... Not sure what the judges did or did not hear .... The rest is history ....
I was there too, as a person who did not originally like soca or anything associated with it, I went to Panorama for the first time in my life as a new engineering student at St Augustine from Barbados with my friends, and I can honestly this song and performance converted me to a soca lover.... Ever since then, I'm addicted to soca. I don't know what the judges heard either, but they were on top for me. In my opinion, they won... Renegades came second as far as I am concerned that year...
My mother was their biggest supporter. I was a child in the pan yard nightly when they practiced this song...and could never forget the music video shooting. Forever a Fonclaire baby!
Not because your mother was in the pan yard nightly made her the biggest supporter. It was not only her there nightly. Think about how you use the words biggest supporter.
Second best of all time panorama composition. Classic never die THIS and Curry tabaca raise meh pause everytime. Tough competition but great performance #walkestreetemanciptioncommittee
I was 15yrs old the year this was done, and 32yrs later I still get goosebumps listening to it. Not even Zeus or Poseidon could have created a storm like this.
The judges always considered south bands secondary... this performance and the judges decision say it all. btw I also like their tourist leggo performance in 1977... blessings from Crichlow street
It's close. A few people say this was robbed of the title. This is amazing! This by far had the best vibe that year, but musically (as a journey) I do love Iron Man by Renegades. What a great year!
In the context of panorama validation comes from the judges in terms of who placed where but outside of that particular season this arrangement will go down as a classic which will be referenced in the such in 100’s of years time.
Oh gosh. I remember how they cheated ken professor philmore thst year. Now he is dead and gone. Everybody feeling nostalgic about this song. RIP Professor philmore. I love you. And I will miss you always
NO, HE CHEATED HIMSELF,,BY MESSING UP THE COUNT YESHE HAD THE BES ARRANGEMENT BUT IT TAKES MORE THAN THAT TO WIN,,YOU HAVE TO EXECUTE AND HE DIDN'T DO THATI MYSELF AND MY WIFE WRE PRESENT AND AS A SOUTH MAN I LOST BIG-BIG MONEY...
Marlon Abner omg it cannot be said enough I was 13 years old and remembered the travesty when they lost by half a point Robbery to the highest degree the judges dead or alive should be in hell
Phil The Thrill from Laventille asked every morning as he played this on radio "Would someone tell me how this performance lost the Panorama Title?" SHAME ON THE JUDGES! SHADOW WAITING ON ALLYUH IN HELL.
Absolute genius yes. The reason they did not win might have been bc of too much arrangement....he went too quickly from one motif to the next, just as you started to enjoy it.
The Judges who don't like south steel band cheats 1s guinness cavaliers my brother my Sister then the beat goes on professor philmore fonclaire get the same treatment San'do skiffle gonna be next there's no more bagons steel band commissioner set the example for the whole world to see San'do maga
I love Renegades, but they did not win that night. Fonclaire took it to another level. Like someone said in the comments, you do not remember Renegades performance , like you do Fonclaire. It was the greatest!
Still the greatest panorama robbery ever. Continue to rest well Professor. July 2021 and still a classic, will forever be a classic.
Couldnt agree with you more...
The greatest panorama classic ever can't understand up to this day how they lost

@@babycakes16100 that is the most logical explanation I have ever heard for him evading that victory

It's tough resisting wanting to hear this magnificent arrangement
just one more time. Without a doubt his best work.
My mother was their biggest supporter. I was a child in the pan yard nightly when they practiced this song...and could never forget the music video shooting. Forever a Fonclaire baby!
I was the actual baby in the video! Ken was my god father and my father and uncle were senior members of the band!
Not because your mother was in the pan yard nightly made her the biggest supporter. It was not only her there nightly. Think about how you use the words biggest supporter.
Absolute genius! Who won? No one remembers, but we keep coming back to this...

Yep! They gave renegades win that year, am a renegades fan, but YES! Fonclaire should have been given the win , robbery straight up.
One of the most electrifying moments in pan. PERIOD!
One could actually visualise the storm!

I believe that it is one of the greatest panorama tunes. I also believe that they were robbed that year
THIS IS THE YEAR "FONCLAIRE" WAS ROBBED: I SAID IT. !!!
1/2 a point, caused the man to drink, which might have been the cause of his untimely passing.
Boss arrangement……. and the tenor lines!!
Thanks sweet music.
