After watching this video, I cut my RBIC Govee lights for use behind my TV. So far, so good.
they still working a year later?
how long was it and how far down did u cut?
They say no because the patterns are based on the full amount of lights. When you reduce that, it lessens the effect and they don't want that. It's not that they WON'T work, it's that they don't want you to do it so you get the best experience.
Exactly that
this comment is super helpful, thanks bro!
I want to use a 16' strip on an arcade cabinet with a riser. The cabinet will use about 12' and I'd like to cut it and use a jumper to join that with the 4' installed on the riser. So that I can move them separately when I need to. It would still be the same number of lights in total, just cut and extended. I would think that if it's all about the number of lights connected, this should work then. What do you think?
It sounds like it should work you should be fine then
@@MrBluesMessiah hi! Did it work!?
I think the only thing wrong with cutting is the number of LED will be different and some animation may calculate incorrectly
Yes that’s mainly why they say not to, and also I show if you cut in the wrong area it’ll just break more than what you thought
@@TechReviewsTV What if I cut and solder it back with extension cable so the number of leds will be the same? Will the segment function work normally?
I haven’t tried that yet but I’ll be making a video about it soon
@@TechReviewsTV How soon? I have scissors and solder ready :D
As soon as my package arrives:) a few days
I have cut a few sets. The only real issue is that the app does not know it’s shorter so custom colour selector stays the same length. Not a problem in my eyes.
For me yes
So you can still select the colors for what you didn’t cut, right? Like if I wanna make a custom something but only need 6 feet and I cut off 10 feet… I can still customize the 6 feet that I have. Right?
@@human47134 Yes you can. I turned sections off at a time till I could see the length I needed and then cut the unlit ones off. The app will still show the full length. I have done this on 3 sets now and still running fine at nearly 2 years.
I cut mine on the copper pins. Only three bulbs after that were dead and the rest of the strip worked like normal. It ended up being the perfect length
what could happen if I add leds in addition to the basic number of leds?
I cut my 2 meter strip and it`s working perfectly fine
When the power is OFF, Yes cut and join RGBIC extension by soldering cable is possible. Without power OFF cutting, soldering or testing will damage the last IC (6 LEd) will fail + next series connection is not possible. To fix them have to cut the failed Led series and solider working Led series. I have tested them on a 10meter strip and wasted 3meter when not powrer Off during soldering.
Why would they be cuttable at a random spot..that's never the case. It is interesting that they work at the cut marks..since they say they are NOT cuttable. I want to use these but only need about 6 feet and I want IC so now I am thinking maybe I can cut them...hrm... but are they still full controllable? BTW use scissors..way easier.
It seems the way to do this if you have to cut them is set each "zone" to a different color, then find where you need to cut and in the app set those zones to be turned off. Only thing is all the preset zones will be messed up. But if you just want solid colors and not motion stuff cutting would be a great option so glad you made this video. I don't plan to do moving for this application just 3 or 4 color gradient under a shelf..so this means I can actually cut (alternatively I can just turn those sections off and hide those parts of the strip somewhere even though that's kind of tedious.
They should change the app to let you tell it if you have cut off some lights so that features keep working.
Surprisingly at the time I didn’t have scissors 😂 got some now tho, and yes it is interesting but they’re the same cutting indicators on normal rgb strips. And yes but I’m the app it’ll act as if they’re still their
@@TechReviewsTV Sweet, maybe you can run more tests like I mention in my other comment =D Either way..great videos, appreciate it.
Yeah, I feel like that would be a solid improvement for the app. They probably just wanted it to be as simple as possible for people who don't have a clue tho
What is the distance between the cutting possibilities?
every 33cm
And then can you use corner connectors and reconnect to ensure they work ??
I was also wondering about that
They're talking about animations that reach the end segments. The controller has a set amount of LEDs (on WS2811, which Govee uses, they're called segments) which you cannot redefine so if you cut off or add 1 segment, the controller will control the strip in the exact same way regardless of how many segments are added/removed. You can cut Govee strips, just make sure you reconnect the same amount of segments back to the rest of the strip using wires and make sure those wires can handle 12V 3A or whatever the max power of the power supply is (mine's 36W). Please do not loop the strip over like it says in the manual. That will create uneven bright spots that look horrible.
I ordered a 2m led strip but i only need 1 meter. If i cut it, the effects just starts again too late because the app thinks its still 2 meter right? So i only have the Problem that the effects starts again a bit too late right? Or are there more Problems?
@@delarue1242 well the only option is to find another place to attach the strip to and connect it trough a 3 wire cable
This is exactly what I want to do. I want to cut a 16' strip into 12 and 4 and then connect them with a jumper so they can be disconnected when I need to. I'll be giving it a try this weekend.
I have a DIY project with some problems.
My plan is to stick a 5m strip around a wooden slat (circumferential length = 2.70m, can still be shortened), which then I want to attach to the wall and screw some stuff onto it so it's backlit. I want to use the RGBIC technology cause of the effects. The problems I have are descriped in the following ideas on how to get to my goal.
Idea 1: I wrap it around the slat almost twice beginning with the end of the strip and stick the second round over the first like that 2,3m are covered because it´s stated that you shouldn´t cut it off according to the manufacturer. Also covering it with insulating tape or something similar, but then you have about 2.30m of the end piece which still get enlighten and with it a supposed delay in some effects generated. Would be cool if you could then hide the last segments via the app, so that the technical end is after 2.70m (according to the segments, that would even be perfect after the 9th, because 9 * 0.3m = 2.7m) and then jumps immediately to the beginning after the 9th segment. Is this possible or does the controller still control the diodes that are not switched on via app and does not skip them, i.e. you can clearly see a delay?
Idea 2: I've read here that the tape can be cut at the copper connections and even better if you do it at every 0.3m cause of the segmented lights. I'm only tied to the 2.7m dimension, I could only shorten it a bit. Can someone tell me whether the copper connections are to be cut at about 2.7 m on the tape? I guess I can play with around 10cm. And is that perhaps also after the 9th segment? Then you could control at least nine segments perfectly or are there problems with the effects? Like a delay descriped in "Idea 1".
All in all it would be cool if the effects start at the beginning of segment one, run until the end of nine and start again at segment one. If it´s not possible, maybe you guys have some other ideas for me.
Thanks.
@@maddinlicious have you seen the new Govee M1 strips? It apparently has a controller that can detect if a strip has been cut and adjust the effects accordingly. It's a bit more expensive though, mostly because it is 60LED/m instead of 30.
what happens if you solder them in the middle
I cut my rgbic pro strip few days ago & all the features work.
I cut mine and works perfectly so thanks for letting me know
Will is still flow the colors like a flowing rgb
@@cantg3tgud it does flow the RGB but there is 5 leds that aren’t synced with the rest but I guess it was worth it because I had over 15 ft extra leds
@@shaggyisbaggy5460 I need only 2,7m from 5m strips. How far apart are the copper panels aka cutting indicators? And is it maybe possible to not cut them and instead turn the parts you dont need off in the app or do animations still calculate with the not used LED's so you will have a visual delay let's say in the meteorite animation?
hi, has anyone tried extending the white cable that connects the strips with the controller?. how many wires are inside that white cable? thanks so much
the 65ft comes in two 32 ft rolls so if i get the 65ft to cover the span of my room after you connect the 2nd strip to the first one if i cut it after that, will it still work or will the second strip lose connection to the first one?
if you use 1 full strip, and then connect a second strip to it… and then cut the end of the second strip opposite to the end connected to the first strip, it will still work. Basically… anything that you cut off will no longer work, because it isn’t connected to anything… but if you cut a strip in half, 1 half will work, the other won’t.
Did you lose any features when you cut the strip?
Segments in the app won’t function they will still appear but not on the strips
If I do cut these lights, will I be able to change the colours through the app??
can you cut the Grovee RGBIC Led Strip Light,Model H617A?
Thanks so much for the video, I ordered a 65ft set for the my daughter's 43ft diameter bedroom for christmas not knowing that RGBIC can't be liberally connected together--looks like I have about 20ft of dead wire I can't reuse for other rooms, though I imagine I could splice the same strip back together to continue the same effect. Looks like going forward I'll be buying RBG lights for room projects.
I wonder though, if I could reuse that 20ft of strip for SOLID colors to connect to a shorter strip going forward?
Good question...I was wondering if they can be connected together like regular RGB led light strips to make them longer???
Sadly you can’t extend them beyond their original size due to the app.
@@TechReviewsTV What about controlling via the remote or will they not work at all if they are put together with a pin connector?
They will continue to work normally
@@TechReviewsTV Thanks
thanks for the video.
do you know if it is possible to connect 2 leds of this type together?
Just what I wanted to know. Thanks man.
No problem! Glad to of helped
Would you happen to know if this can also be done with the Govee string lights? 48ft is too short but 96 ft is too long.
Rgbic decorstar work? Please
Idk if I’m too late but two sections of my lights stopped working. If I were to reconnect then will they work normally? Thank you
Can these be link and wired to a 12v battery
Help me figure it out please, I received 3 packs of Govee LED Strip Light M1. Each tape is 16.4 feet, you can include only two and then the total length can reach 32.8 feet. But I have a 41 foot room and would like a consistent effect, no chunks.
How to connect an additional piece of tape so that it would be part of the main flight, so that the effect could be as one.
Thank you in advance.
Have you tested custom app presets for the RGBIC strips after they are cut? Does it work correctly, or does it produce an error.
They still work it just acts as if they’re still there but won’t project on that specific light
@@TechReviewsTV Thanks!
I cut mine and so far it works as normal but does it shortens lifetime of the LEDs and can you solder them back together?
i think soldering them back is ok
or order led solderless connectors easy
So I put them on my wall and here is a big gap and I was wondering if I could by a like 20ft set of them and cut off the amount I need and then connect them to the ones already on my wall can I do that?
Can i add this to dreamview t1 ? I wa t to add the effect on tv to my all room.. can i do it?
ALERT: If you have any Model RGBIC or RGBICW from Govee and the controler works with 24V divide in 2 parts for each led strip / each side, lef and right (example 2x 15mts), happens two things: the effects dont works flow has well and you lost to many time to loop the effect. Other thing is : the short strip led shortens the life span for only 30% of the manufacturer displays in waranty and the colours be more bright than the other strip because the amperage is more greater or the short length. The other (complet length) strip works normaly but a quite more bright than if you have the two parts original parts length, and durability it also more shorter.

I’m planning on getting 65.6ft led lights for my room that’s 43ish ft. I want to do a rainbow effect but I know that if I cut them, the rainbow effect won’t look as clean. I don’t know what would be the best thing to do. Can someone send me some advice on what to do?
outline thr doorframe to get rid of some extra length
they also make a 49ft strip but you can only buy it through walmart
So I got the 100ft and at the end the strip I just put it on top of the other strip. I was scared of cutting it. Cuz I spent $80 something dollars and I got two of them just in case. So if I use a pair of scissors and cut it the copper part. Just hope it still works.
Hey. I've just purchased the RGBIC Basic (H618A) and I want to cut and splice the LED strip to put underneath a row of stacked shelving so I can have a different colour on each shelf. My light strip has 4 pin copper lines for cutting but there are also three areas where these have been soldered already by the manufacturer and one of my cuts needs to go through the solder. Has anyone tried cutting this bit with success? Thanks!
Hey my man. Maybe we can help each other out? I've had success cutting at the solder w/ snips, but you need to bend the pins on the connectors up a little bit to make room for the bulk of the solder. Can you tell me if your shelving project worked out? I'm in the same boat and would like to know if you got the different colors to work on each shelf!
Hey. I finally cracked it. Yes it works! The great thing is you don't have to use the original sequence so if you mess up and destroy a section, you can just splice in a section from anywhere on the original strip. I used the spiked connectors and some LED connector wire from Amazon.
I didn't need the last 2m of the strip so the looping animations pause slightly before starting again. Not really an issue if you ask me. All the animations look great and having a different colour on each shelf is a flex.
What's the width of the strip?
can you soldering? .... search 3 pin controller ....argb and others :)
Now is there any connectors to connect them back together?
Not sure I’ll make a video showing if it can
Can you connect 16ft to 50ft rgbic govee?
Can you extend them?
Once cut, are you able to use an adapter to add another strip of lights?
You can’t extend these beyond the original strip length , but you can add 90 degree corners
@@TechReviewsTV I think he was asking if you have an extra adapter can you connect or Sauter the extras onto that if he wasn’t asking that question it’s now mine 😧
Same response as his question, can’t extend beyond original strip length. Can only use 90 degrees or cable extensions
I didnt get a adapter and remote is this usual?
hey so since you cut them i was wondering do you know the immersion kit with the USB C port well i have novostella rgbic and they just sitting there would you know if i was to cut the one end and attach a usb type c port to it would it possibly work with the govee immersion control box
