Olga Korbut's dance and execution is superior even by today's standards. What a performer. I have followed gymnastics since 1972 and watching this again blew me away with respect to just how good she was.
Unforgettable! I was 11, and I still remember how amazed I was by her tiny frame and HUGE presence. I love her comment here : "It felt like candy in my heart." Explains why she emanated then - and now - such purity and sweetness. Spasiba Спасибо Olga!
She had real charisma. The crowds loved her back in 1972. She was 17 but looked 10 years old. Thank you for uploading this video. Olga seems to be a wonderful person.
It was Olga Korbut who put gymnastics on the map and made it popular worldwide! Looking at these vintage performances, I am still astonished that the athletes competed on hard, 'dead' equipment, not like today's floors and apparatus which are all spring-loaded!
Not true. It started with Olga! Nadia was able to capitalize and take it up another whole notch! It's been said by many of the announcers back then. She was the one who gave the USSR some humanity when she cried because no one ever saw any of the girls cry, because they weren't supposed to show weakness. And her exciting routines encouraged more girls from the US to get into gymnastics. The US was not able to come close to competing with the gymnasts from the USSR back then. They dominated for years! Russia and Romania were unstoppable. But everyone fell in love with Olga first!
Olga is still the most beautiful gymnast ever and should have received several perfect 10s at the 1972 Olympics. You will never be forgotten Miss Korbut! Thank you for uploading this video.

Your gymnastics were stunning. You bonded with the whole world, and we loved you then and still do. I will never forget you. You and I are the same age. After the Olympics, I did not see you, and there was no news about you. This was during the Cold War, and I was afraid something had happened to you. This video is very comforting to me to see you after all these years.I wish you health and happiness.
I will always remember you!!! The way you did your gymnastics took my breath away and I had never watched the Olympics before, but I've been watching ever since. There have been many great ones (None as great as you) but none have affected me the way you did!!! ❤
I never realized how kind Erika Zuchold was toward Olga throughout the competition, and how she tried to console her more than one occasion. You think these Eastern Bloc competitors were stoneface mean girls but it looked like she had a soft spot for Olga.
Beautiful documentary! Exciting, reliving this unforgettable competition from so many years ago! Olga 'routines changed this sport and marked its evolution
Loved seeing this legend who inspired us all, who we watched as this historic moment happened walk through her memory of her glory. We emulated her. There was nothing like her heart, joy, bravery, brilliance, spectacular mind blowing moves, grace, flexibility, control...it was incomparable and inspiring and made gymnastics explode.
I was only five yrs old in America when she competed but knew who she was my whole life. Her grace and style is missing in todays gymnastics. Olga is a treasure ❤
This was an excellent video true reflections of being in that moment . She is a beautiful person - gymnast, truly changed the world of gymnastics. We will always love you and your fabulous smile 🌹
In 1996 during the Atlanta Olympics I had the opportunity to meet many Olympians of many sports from the past, Olga was just as genuine as they come, and so much fun to talk to. I happen to be working for ACOG at the Fernbank Museum of Natural History in Decatur, a suburb of Atlanta. Each night there was an entertainment spectacle allegorical of the Olympiads. There was a topnotch buffet style dinner and desserts and many athletes attended. It was an amazing experience for someone like me who is an avid Olympic fan. Olga and I talked for a long time. She told me funny stories and who she liked from her teammates and who she didn't like. There was no malice in her dislike for a particular gymnast. She simply resented the way she was treated by Ludmila Turisheva and only because Ludmila was jealous. She may have won the all around title, but Olga was the star. The 1972 Olympics belonged to no one else but Olga. Just like the Montreal Olympics belonged to Nadia Comaneci.
This segment is superbly presented with its inter-spreading of ABC TV's coverage juxtaposed with Olga's personal reminiscence of the events. A truly insightful documentation of this historical event. Thank you for uploading this valuable piece of history so that viewers can forever have the opportunity to appreciate the magic Olga brought to Munich.
