New Orleans IS in the south, BUT the accents (and speech patterns) are DIFFERENT from ANY OTHER city and States that are southern. You have to make a distinction between New Orleans and other southern cities of the south because of mannerisms and dialect (and even other parts of Louisiana).
YES!! You took the words right out of my mouth. Shreveport, LA is so damn "country"! I've been here 11 years (moved here after Katrina) and I feel like I've been trying to explain this since I been here. Shreveport is only 5 hours away from New Orleans and its like they're two completely different states! New Orleans is so unique and special man. 😩😍 I can't wait to move back!
Maybe most of the south but It's very similar to Geechee dialect in South Carolina which I think is probably a stonger and harder for folks to understand.
Right Cha as a Geechee I'll have to disagree. The accents of Charleston county and where I live in Georgetown SC are indeed very similar to that NO accent. The coastal accents are more Geechee than the southern country twang of the inland counties
I don't know WHAT people you've been hearing but, New Orleans has a DISTINCT dialect and accent. You need to LIVE in New Orleans for a few years and 'mingle' with (Black) people who aren't (and weren't) influenced by living elsewhere and came back to the city (N.O.), or anyone who speaks "properly" and omit New Orleans' slang!
Being from New Orleans his accent comes through slightly when he says New Orleans and when he said “we don’t talk like dat”. It’s subtle but it’s there lol.
At first it seems a lot, but You don’t go there without being either a bit prepared, or at least passioned about arts where learning 3 songs and 12 monologues aren’t that extraordinary.
