While you can never know a celebrity/stranger/pro athlete, I have to comment that Mathieu comes across as extremely mature, intelligent, and thoughtful. Sure, there is a producer and editor working on this, but as a person who rides and races cross for fun and has a day job, he seems like a very worthy champion.
I look forward to watching him race for many more years! He is clearly passionate and dedicated, which are two very admirable traits. Awesome!
