He’s talking to fear. Not himself. His emotion of fear. Fear is the first voice then NFs comes in to argue with Fear.
THIS is why it is so important to start from the beginning and follow the journey! He is trying to kill his fear. This is a musical masterpiece! Pure brilliance that only NF could have created.

If you had listened to Outro first at the end of the song he says “listen to INTRO III/ trying to kill my fear” which is why listening to Outro before INTRO IIII is common. It’s honestly genius. Half of the song is his fear telling him to get his stupid hat off of his head etc and then he kills fear. He had a tweet from 2017 saying that this battle with him and his fear was real. He was truly trying to kill his fears and it shows.
