Can you run it in an enclosed space? I thought you’d need to leave the door open a bit?
Do the tank need to be fill up all the way to come on the reason I'm asking is that I got one from the dump I put a gallon in it let me know
mine cuts off about every twenty minutes.Have to run it through the cooling cycle and then it restarts. Any suggestions ?
could I use a force heater in my fully insulated 3 car garage about 630 sq ft with 8 ft ceilimgs for Christmas? I have a pool table in there and we will probably be playing pool during Christmas. I have some gaps around garage doors and also a 3 to 4 gap under door that goes to yard. So I don't know if this will be enough ventilation? I know force heaters are loud but we will have the music playing:) eventually I will get probably a Mr cool 18000 btu minisplit system to heat and cool garage. I also have a gym in there. I live in Clovis ca with a zone 9b I think
Thanks for the great review Jason. I have essentially the same space I need to heat during winter here in Cincinnati. I was considering a forced air natural gas unit, or a low intensity infrared but those options are much more expensive than this thing. This, at least on paper, puts out as much BTU as a really nice forced air unit without all the installation headaches. My main concern, is carbon monoxide. I have no experience with these type heaters in a garage. Some say to keep the garage door cracked a couple inches, others say a garage isn't tight enough to cause concern. What say you?
Long story short I've been using both heaters shown in enclosed garages for a decade. Never even a headache even when burning them off and on all day. Never opened the garage door but I do go in and out the man door occasionally which burps in some fresh air I guess. YMMV.

Yep on both! I pump out fuel and run dry each spring. Fresh fuel each winter. Takes 2-3 ignition cycles to light the first time coming out of storage. Then lights first try after that rest of season. Quiet, low smell, and hot as a firecracker. Heats 800 square foot partially insulated garage. Cant run for much more than 15 min it'll be 80F in there.

is this new heater stinky like the older one you have??
WHat's the cord plugged into it? I assume for the infrared portion? is so, can this heater be used without the infrared? I ask because my home is all electric. So if the power goes out, no heat. So the infrared will be useless to me.
MrCougar214 You could do like I have, run the heater off a small invertor hooked up to a car battery. these units are quieter and probably cleaner than the standard salamanders.

Jk kidding heater still running great. Takes a few on/off cycles to get it to light each fall the first ignition only.

Hey there - yes it does but only on startup. Leave your garage door open when you enter, flip the switch, point it out the door, let it get glowing red, shut the door and turn it towards the center. Zero smell from that point on, running K1...OSHP = Ohio State Highway Patrol? : )
Bikes, beer and a heater.........................nice. Thanks for the review, been looking at some new heaters and I like the quieter unit. I have been through a few DeWalt propane heaters and they do make noise and have an odour many find offensive but it does heat my 20 x 24 garage pretty good, but I am starting to like the idea of a kerosene heater and this one looks good.
when I turn off my heater the fan stays on why!! to turn it off i have to unplug it
It's a cool down cycle to try to prevent the temperature change shock from cracking the ceramic insulation. The cool down fan only cycle is only about 5 min. Leave it plugged in let it do its cool down thing. 😎👍

been trying to determine weather to go with one of these heaters or something like the newer dyna glow or whatever brand salamander / torpedo style heaters basically talking about a 2 and a half bay garage no insulation 9 ft ceilings and loft above mostly plywooded for storage/ wifes junk lol Please anyone chime in here sick of freezing my ass off whenever i need to work out there on anything in winter
If I had no heaters, based on your dimensions - get two of these shown - opposite corners - you'll be in the low 70's in 10-15 minutes. It will cool quickly though with no insulation. Start em both, get it warm, once you start to get a chill, fire em one at a time back and forth to share the runtime... Or get one of these for jacking up the temps quick, and a cylindrical radiant kerosene heater, leave the 24k BTU radiant burn near where you are.

string twister yes it sure is. This is year 3. I drain it each spring run it till it quits. It does take 2 or 3 ignition attempt cycles each fall to reprime and light. Probably has 30 to 40 gallons through it ok pump dispensed K1. Love the heater.

+Zane Wv Well I think you have a Carbon Monoxide risk with any fuel burning heater. I probably wouldn't bring one in the house without a CO2 detector at the very least, and only then probably in a dire emergency, which in that case you probably wouldn't have electric anyway.

+Jason Fagan A CO detector would be helpful for sure. A CO2 detector would detect carbon dioxide rather than carbon monoxide.
+Zachary Harper lol yeah CO detector that's what I meant, brain fade on that one. I'm too used to saying Argon and CO2 75/25 shielding gas for my MIG welder just had a bottle refilled.
What a nice heater. But how stupid is the manufacturer to not include an automatic thermostat on it? Just dumb.

I bought the same for garage but with thermostat, it is just another model and these are run on construction sites where the just run untill empty I think. type Eurom Sunblast EAN 8713415307030 is with thermostat

Yep sure is - actually I just shut it off. Took the garage from 45F to 65F in ten minutes so I could comfortably replace a CCTV camera in there. I drained fuel with a pump and ran till it shut off like I do with anything that burns fuel with a flame when it gets put up for 6 months. It started on 2nd attempt just like in the video once I filled it back up.

Great review, but want to add that they will also run on diesel fuel also. We run diesel in our 125,000 btu radiant heater by Protemp with no issues. In our area here in Nevada it is hard to get kerosene without buying at least 55 gallons at upwards of $8/ gallon. Hardware stores sell k1 and k2 in one and two gallon jugs starting at $12/gallon and as high as $28/two gallon jug. So I'm just commenting that for some parts of the US its cheaper and easier to run diesel and more readily available than kero.

Anyone wired a thermostat on one of these yet? Needed badly.
Clif Smallwood They have a mandatory 5-6 minute cooling cycle and it has stickers that explicitly say unplugging before the cooling cycle ends will damage the unit. Any thermostat would just cut power, so it is not at all compatible with any of the inline with the power cord style thermostats. I use this to get the temp up to 60F in the garage and shut it off. Then my 12,000 BTU cylindrical radiant non-electric kerosene heater maintains my workspace.
what is it that's damaged by the heat when it's not allowed to go through the 5 minute cool down? Are they using plastic fans in these?
I just got a Procom Magnum 110k BTU torpedo heater for $149 despite the abundance of bad reviews; it's working out fairly well so far.
You said this radiant heater uses less fuel than torpedo heaters, were you comparing it against an equivalent BTU output? I'd expect the BTU output on all these heaters should be essentially the determination of the fuel consumption rate; if there's any differences, then they'd be generating carbon monoxide, which hopefully isn't significant.

Just researched the thermostat issue and I think this is a solution. Anyone else have any experience with this?

That is just an inline power cord thermostat which simply cuts power to the whole unit once it achieves a certain temperature. That WILL DAMAGE this style of heater, because the heater requires a 5-6 minute cooling cycle once you manually flip the power switch off. The fan must run to cool the unit or it will be damaged. None of these inline power cord thermostats will work with style of heater. Don't burn up your heater man!

A simple 660watt UPS (uninterpretable power supply) should be used with the heater if you know that power is an issue. A "CyberPower Systems 1100VA UPS with LCD Display" should cost you around $145 US and can be used as potable power too. The UPS would require you to be on-site and manually turn the heater off once the main power went down to allow the unit to go through its required cool-down cycle. You can also power the unit via an inexpensive 12v DC to 110V AC 300watt power inverter as the heater only requires around 160watts max to run. The power inverter can be run from a car battery thus avoiding your intermediate power supply issue altogether. There is a UA-cam video on running this heater on a power inverter.

Seems if you're normally supposed to shut down the heater using the on/off switch in the back, it'd be a simple matter to wire a relay to that switch to control the temperature. Just need to make sure there's sufficient hysteresis in the control to avoid short cycling the unit; such as shutting off 5 degrees above the set point, and turning on 5 degrees below the set point.
