This was my first camera, which I got for my 11th birthay in 1963. I loved it ! I remember I bought a flash (or course) and an extra lens for close-ups.
It also taught me how to be careful: as you say, after each snapshot you have to remember to roll to the next one, otherwise you get double exposures.
I was delighted with the results.

A few tips: 1) they're pretty inexpensive with inexpensive lenses so if the first one you get doesn't give sharp photos try another one. I ended up with 3 and one gave noticeably sharper photos than the other two. 2) the other grey 'button' opposite the shutter release is actually a tab that you can lift up, when it's lifted it puts the camera into bulb mode meaning you can do long exposures. The shutter will remain open as long as you are pressing the shutter release. 3) the reason that metal tab is on the flash to eject the bulb after use is because the bulb will be BURNING HOT after flashing so never grab it with your fingers, fling it away with that metal tab instead. 4) lastly the B in the flash bulb name indicates it has a blue coating which gives a whiter light for colour photos whereas non-B bulbs are uncoated so the flash is slightly yellow best for b&w. That said it's not like anyone is using these cameras for perfection so you will get decent results with either.

My Kodak Brownie Hawkeye was made in the year I was born, 1949. It belonged to my uncle and I received it as a gift when I was six years old. I still have it, and I used it until 1973!

This was the first camera I bought for our daughter to learn photography. She took amazing time exposure at Disney World.

I have one of these little cameras and I love it! It really does take good pictures. I used black and white film and developed it myself. I'll have to try color sometime!

I just got my kodak from a pawn shop so this was really helpful! I love photography like this and hope to be a pro some day, also did they ever make reusable bulbs? If not then can the old bulbs be refused? And if so how many times? Also how do the photos turn out when you don't use the flash? Is it a drastic difference or only a slight difference?

Check your flash - it does need batteries. Most flashes for the Hawkeye Brownie take a #5 or #25 bulb. You can buy them on eBay. A flash bulb is only good for one flash.

This video was good, funny, and informative. Thank you. I do have a question though…would it be a good idea to shoot this camera at a roller skating rink? Lots of lights but still a darker setting.

Only shoot indoors with a flash bulb. Shots with no flash are only for shooting in broad daylight.

Oh and also, technically you can use 120 film but a 120 spool only fits on the film side, you need a 620 spool to wind the film onto on the other side. And then when you get the film processed you need to ask for a 620 spool back. So buying 620 in the first place from FPP might be a more no-nonsense way to go.

That's what I just did. Ordered a couple rolls for fun and a take up spool.

I have that exact camera. Flash bulbs are rare these days.

The first camera I ever saw or used. Belonged to my sister. I experimented with the time exposure switch, taking indoor static shots for several seconds. Worked great! I still have it today and need to buy some 620 film from the FPP. But where would I send it to be developed and printed these days? You mention one at the 3 minute mark but I can't quite tell what you are saying. Thanks. And does anyone still make those "hand grenade" flash bulbs, G.E. Synchro-Press 5B or Press 25B? Oh, OK. I'll check eBay. Thanks again. I would mention for any newbies to NEVER touch the fired bulb for up to a minute after firing the flash. That is a good way to get your fingers burned. Cool video. I need to mess around and take some shots for fun. Digital? Who needs that? ;-)

I send my film (35mm, 120, 620, 127, etc.) to The Darkroom in California for developing, scanning -- and printing (at time of development) if needed. Gone are the days of $5 develop and double prints at the local mall....

@@aengusmacnaughton1375 ah, yes much more expensive than the "old days" but glad someone is still doing it. Used to develop my own B&W Tri-X film and print photos but never did it enough to be economical. Sold the enlarger a few years ago. I hope it is seeing more use.
The blurb says the "Brownie" FPP film comes with a mailer for The Darkroom. That will make it convenient.

@@rosswarren436I recommend The Darkroom in San Clemente, California too. It's a little bit expensive, but they really do a great job and they handle film very carefully. My photos always turn out great and the negatives look perfect with no scratches, spots, etc.

FPP isn't the saviour of the ENTIRE universe - only the part which has the most fun. 😸
