This is a very informative video. Thanks for posting it. I've always used the Dunlop brand and have never experienced a failure to lock. A quick push of the button, insert the strap pin, and a tug after releasing the pin to make sure it engaged and boom done. A small drop of oil every year and they're good to go. I have a set on my 1960 Precision bass that's been on the bass for well over two decades. The bass has had heavy roadwork in clubs all over the western US and Canada. Temps from 115 degrees in AZ to -54 degrees wind chill in Alberta, Canada and zero issues. That's why I won't even consider any other brand.
I know it’s an old video. But just want to update. Loxx released a version which you can use other straps. They call it Duopin. I also love Loxx. I put it in all my guitars.
Just recently bought 2 pairs of Loxx from Amazon and they work great on my guitar and bass. The other guitar (a little heavier) I have a Schaller type on that one. All of them work as intended. But I am thinking about changing all to Loxx. Love the simplicity of use and the logic behind its mechanism. Don´t mind about the looks, but I get why some people might find that off-putting.
I'm a bedroom/backyard player so the rubber washer is the best option for me. I only use that method on my acoustics but use schaller strap locks on all my electrics because I'm always looking to spend money on gear. Yeah, Im that guy. I recommend a little lock tight on Those nuts. Works like a charm. Thanks for the money saving advice at the end of the video.
Beer strap locks from grolsch beer bottle works great with les pauls and SG. You can literally hang the guitar by the strap impacting the whole weight of ass-heavy LP and it won't fall out because of this lil' orange thingy.
thanks for this! just got a Gretsch 5420 and didn't like how the buttons were coming loose by themselves. i was a little hesitant on locks at first since i didn't want to unscrew the stocks pins but now i use the stock gretsch pins with the dunlop buttons attached to the guitar like normal buttons and i use Grolsh washers for extra security.
As a strapmaker, I decided to design my own oversize jumbo strap buttons. I'd love to wean all guitar players off the complicating, inelegant binky-pacifier false security blankets mechanical straplocks can be. Seek out Well-Hung Pro-Pins, and be a part of the changed game. Cool video though! I appreciate anything to do with better guitar handling, care and safety.
I don't think it's different metal, just a different design. Loxx were originally made to hold canvas covers on boats. Someone just decided they would also make a good guitar strap lock.
I’ve tried basically all and as a working musician 5 days out of the week Loxx have proved time and time again the most flush and durable . Loxx 10/10
I like them a lot. My only negatives are you can't use a regular strap on them in a pinch and the way they look with the strap off.

Thanks for the reply
I didn't know about the Grovers, so thanks. I also learned "wallered" is a word 😄
Wallered IS A WORD!!!!

Cool.
Great and informative. Strap locks and how they "look" is also important to me.
Me too. What is more important to you? How the strap lock looks when attached or how it looks without the strap?

Thanks for sharing!
Very useful information..
" if you can keep your strap, when all about you are loosing theirs,

I use those too.
Great video!☺👍
I use the PROLINE nickel straplocks BTW.
Nice!

Loxx locks beats them all for me
Agreed

I agree. My guitars with large buttons don't need strap locks. My Ibanez guitars do fine without.
Thanks man! Very helpful!!!
Glad I could help.
Are the loxx brand the same metal or a stronger metal ?

Do those screw in Grover buttons come loose often?
No
SCHALLER not SHALLOWER.
?
I didn't have one to show, but Schaller's new system has a locking security nut. Check it out. amzn.to/3mi4fpA
The older Shallers were great…. The new ones are fuckin awful…. Massive fail
