What pisses me off is the theist asking, "Were you there?" about the big bang. I turned it around on the last one, and asked them if they were there to see god creating the earth? I got a blank stare and they walked away.

Yes, we are mad. Because we see the REAL suffering inflicted on others by a really bad idea.

My brother died of cancer. My cousin, who unbeknowest to me apparently had gone off her rocker and become religious called me with condolences. After the so sorrys, she proceeded to tell me that if he wasn't saved he's gone to hell. Somehow, I managed to stay civil.

    • @chiraspelastururu

Mehki when my father died, 3 years ago, my great aunt did the same and I haven't seen or speak to her since then... I was a believer (Catholic) back then, and I was angry at her for even suggest that my kind father, who helped her a lot trough her life, was in hell because he did not speak with the priest before his death.
Now I know better, and my father is in my memory and in all of those who he helped through his generous life. And somehow I did remain civil too, but I think I was in shock, unable to respond appropriately.

I stopped believing in Hell about 8 months ago, which has helped my anxiety tremendously. I told my doctor that I'd stopped believing in Hell. He drew back in horror & quickly ended the appointment. Wow, this is a compassionate, educated person. 😮

One thing that particularly ticks me off is when churches demand public apologies from their members. Usually for stuff that isn't wrong by any moral standard. I remember a young woman apologizing in front of the whole church because she had got pregnant out of wedlock. I recently heard of another case where they asked a woman, also pregnant out of wedlock, to apologize to the church during her wedding ceremony. The words "self-righteous cunts" come to mind...

    • @thunderridge4830
      @thunderridge4830 6 років тому

I remember the same type thing. But the pastor had the pregnant lady beside him while he apologized for her. I remember thinking "congratulations, let us (the congregation) know how we can help."

Jeff Albright. flo kennedy once said "if motherhood is so wonderful why does it change if one puts "unwed" or "welfare" in front of it. why should any woman have to apologize or be apologized for for getting pregnant?

I can relate! I am 15 years old and I AM an atheist. My older sister tries to get me to go to church but I refuse. I went to church when I was younger, I never understood how this world came to be... How did it all start? I asked every adult and they all said "God brought us here, we are his children". Till this day I think it's nonsence. Some say I'm too young to understand but I say they are not willing to open their eyes and see the truth behind bibles and churches

What makes me mad is that when I am hosting a gathering at my home, I have to sit and politely listen to them droning the lord's prayer before meals, but I don't feel free to just admit that I'm an atheist, because I might "offend" them. Now, it is actually my husband who worries about offending people, even though he's not a believer, but he's afraid of what other people will think if they know. So I fume and keep my mouth shut. I hate putting up with this in my own home.

Regarding angry atheists: It took me many years to get over being angry all the time. I still see the need for atheists to be active, but if I get active and engage theists, I can't help but become angry. It's not good for my delicate health.

  • @heavymetalzombiepilot4049

We have every right to be angry when this is the only life we know we have and there are people taking advantage of the fact that this life is short and uncertain and convince people to give them precedence over their lives and time.

Damn! I love this! Thank you! Man, i've experienced this as well. Telling my dad i'm an athiest, he cried, and well, said "How can you do this to me?" and that he would kill himself. Pathetic really. Just because I dont believe. I dont understand, i'm the same person I always was. And he continued to call "athiesm" a cult, full of lies, and laughed at the idea that there is no "god."

Ugh I hate that too when people thank god for the "miracles" that saved their loved ones/relatives/friends. My mom recently went through surgery to remove two huge cysts from her abdominal area. I've been helping her still while she recovers by taking and walking her to the bathroom and such. I hadn't heard anyone say the "thank god", so I was QUITE surprised until I went to school and a girl said, " God heard my prayers"; I just had this face -_____________________________-.

@TheThinkingAtheist Not at all, I think everyone who called in had their say and can understand that there are a lot of callers and you need to get through as many as possible so that their voice can be heard by those who feel that they're the only Atheists around, and that they're not alone. This and the "in your words" videos help a lot, and I'm glad these are out there.

The Thinking Atheist asks "What makes you mad as h3ll?" Here's my response:
People who send their kids to sch00l, where they receive indoctrination.
What a horrible spectacle it is: all these callers having to recover from their own indoctrination as Christians. Why get started in the first place?

I am right there with you. I unfortunately went to a private christian high school, and a great number of my former classmates are on Facebook today. I have to use a UA-cam alias to keep them from knowing that I am an atheist due to the inevitable battle such a declaration would cause. Meanwhile, I log into Facebook to find praying over every little silly thing, and I can't speak my mind.
I ordered one of those "A's" from the RDF but have never worn it in public.

I became much more skeptical as I got older, & I read Science books (I STILL DO) since age 3. I have an Astronomy book beside me RIGHT NOW on my bed! I am so tired of being preached at. Recently at Wal-Mart a policy was put in place that prevents customers from paging people to the front of the store to be picked up or what not because it ruins the "shopping experience" of other customers, but it's perfectly fine to let church groups stand in the door way and try to "save" me or openly ask for money. I went to the store manager and tried to complain about this but all i got was an eye roll. -

As an atheist and a navy vet what really annoyed me was when one of my facebook "friends" posted a joke which involved a marine (can't remember the details) and the whole point of the joke was that God is protecting our services members in Iraq. I don't want any harm to come to our service members but reality > God. Anyway I broke my silence and had to post the link of the navy seals that died over there..the ones that killed Bin Laden. To make a long story short: Atheists 1, Christians 0.

Too funny - I just wrote my post and The Thinking Atheist just said something the same - so I'm compelled to refer to another.
As I "converted" to atheism when I was 12 I had to discuss my beliefs with adults many times. The thing that really makes me mad as hell is when they would say things like "your wrong" (I would say "you are" which they didn't like, but thought it youthful petulance) or "you will find out" (and I would say you won't which they didn't like either). They're nuts!

When you are at a community dinner, and they ask you to bow your heads and join them in prayer before the dinner. I don't do it, and sometimes I get looks from people. I was asked by a pastor once why I didn't participate (later after the dinner when people were mingling). I told him that I am an apistevistic atheist and I consider prayer to be a waste of time. (I had to explain what the term apistevist means.)

I never really got into those situations with theists in real life. It does happen online with the usual "Evolution is Wrong" conversations. But there was once when I was taking a class and I told the lady behind me that I was an atheist and she said that "I would have needed absolute knowledge to say that." Ironically it also requires absolute knowledge to say God exists as well. What pissed me off was that even though I wanted to talk about it she just ended the talk right there and I didn't.

Wow I'm happy I'm Swedish! All of this sounds crazy to me. I've met very few believers in my day, I’m thinking about 5(?). Here people think Christians are weird, but you wouldn’t say anything condescending to them or ever question their faith. Of course everyone have their right to believe whatever and atheist talks to each other about religion, but not to believers because you don’t want to say anything inappropriate or step on someone’s toes...

I am surprised that during this session of the Podcast, no one mentioned a very common argument that Christians employ, which always gets under my skin, and probably a lot of other people as well. When you, as an atheist, profess that at one time you were a Bible believing Christian, but have since seen the error of your ways, the Christian responds: "I doubt you were a true believer". It is almost as if they think that no can change their mind. That frustrates the hell out of me.

I think a little anger is understandable considering how often we're faced with negativity just from a title. I had a woman approach and preach at me in line at the bank once, and I was fairly tolerant of her until she felt that it was okay to attack me personally by telling me I have no self esteem and need god to feel good about myself. I don't mind open conversation until it becomes a personal attack, which happens more often than not.

I once saw a video where creationist toured some kids in a natural history museum pointing at the presented material as "artwork" instead of evidence. I wonder how they would react if I went to a church and point at the stations of the cross and say thy are just artwork. Also, it really makes me angry when you get along with someone perfectly, but the moment they find out you are atheist, they look at you in fear, I mean, you can see that fear in their eyes, like I was suddenly some criminal.

As a resource for any public school students (and their parents) with teachers that preach creationism, there is the 'National Center for Science Education'. Put that in a search engine, they have a website and a youtube channel. I've been watching videos of Dr. Eugenie Scott lecturing about various court cases involving creationism in public schools. The Supreme Court ruled that teaching creationism in public schools is UNCONSTITUTIONAL, per the Kitzmiller vs Dover case.

The one thing that makes me angry about religion is the power hunger and desire for violence in it. When I think of the End-Timers, the Domionionists, the ones who try to start wars, who try to paint sections of humanity as better dead than alive, who want the world to end and will hasten that if they can, it fills me with a rage I feel nowhere else in my life.
I do not usually kill my own food, but it feels positively cathartic to kill and eat after a debate with the advocates of such evil.

I was shocked to hear that in a public school the science teachers were injecting their creationist agenda into their lecture, telling the kids that they shouldn't believe the science books and replacing the discussion with creationism. That is so offensive and a total disregard for the role as a teacher.
I urge any student in this situation to go directly to your principal and describe what's happening. If that doesn't work, call the school board. You don't have to put up with that abuse.

Kinda like when people say "holy shit" they are not really referring to some sacred excrement somewhere.

I'm mad as hell too! Anniversary dinner tonight for me & my wife. The in-laws start their shit..pray at dinner in a nice restaurant. I get up, go outside to smoke. I don't push my beliefs but they do. I don't believe they're baitin me but it sure seems so. "Why do you hate jesus?" I say, "I hate nobody, I believe jesus probably existed. I don't believe he was divine, I don't believe that his existence proves that he was any god's son...This conversation is over."

What makes me mad is the simple lack of logic from page 1 of the bible and yet so many people just accept the absurdity. Praying to ask God to change the world is blasphemy- either you accept god is perfect (in which case all of creation is perfect, sin, the devil and hell are impossible), or you believe god is imperfect and the universe needs changing (which is blasphemy). You can't have it both ways.

I'm mad as hell about a million things when it comes to this subject. I'm easy going, but I am not nice about religion anymore; I have zero tolerance. There are too many examples to list.
