Oh I am so thrilled, I harvested my mustard greens seeds today! Thank you! I did use a larger hole strainer to sift the seeds from the larger chaff; then I blew on the smaller pieces till I was dizzy lol. But it worked!
Luke, once again a very educational video. When I grow arugula, once it bolts, I pull it out. I'm not going to do that anymore now that I know how easy it is to get the seed! I'm still learning about growing different veggies here in Tx, and I am waiting for my garden to be as productive as yours! But the next step is to start saving seeds. It's called free food and God is the best provider!
very nice harvest. so far this year I have saved seeds for zinnias, malabar spinach, Mexican sunflowers, cucumbers, tomatoes. and beans. still planning to harvest egyptian spinach. peppers. basil. and okra. i also pull the seeds off and replant buckwheat, cilantro, swiss chard and arugula as we have mild winters here. thanks again Luke
If you get dizzy from blowing, an easier method when you get to that point is to put a colander in a bowl and the seed will go through leaving the chaff
It seems like using a screen would be a great way to separate the seed from the chaff. Just like in your earth worm castings videos since mustard seed is so small.
Have you ever done a video on digging up brassicaceae to over winter to get seeds the following year? I don't see it, sorry. Could you link for me please? Grateful in Alberta Canada
Hi, I grew some Florida Broad Leaf mustard greens, matter of fact more than I can eat. Now they are over grownplants with stems and yellow flowers. Can I harvest mustard seed from this variety?
Some cultivars of Brassica oleracea (kale, collard, and head cabbage) are biennial and will only flower if they survive a mild winter or are protected. Do you have any tips to overwinter biennial cultivars of cabbage?
Hi Migardener! :) Is there any way you could share your seeds? I am a starting gardener and here in our climate (northern Arizona) it is VERY hot. Since your seeds are heat tolerant, i thought it would be good for our climate. I find your channel super helpful and I'm looking forward to watching many more videos! :) Thanks for considering my comment. :)
+First Gardener You should check out his store. He sells seeds there, among other things. migardener.com/store/#!/Vegetable-Seeds/c/5214405/offset=0&sort=normal I just purchased some seeds and Trifecta+ not long ago. Received it pretty quickly too.
why do people INSIST....on using 'excited' 'exciting' language in plant videos.....when they immediately go into....more mature fact based speaking? incongruous.....

The chaff is great for mulching newly seeded ground, where you want just a little bit of mulch protection but you don't want to smother the seeds.
+suburban homestead Great! :D I love that!
That was my first thought, too

+Kurious Kat So true! Saving seeds is not only responsible, but it gives you basically a free garden next year!

Mustard is the main Indian spice. It is used for basic tempering. It crackles very easily.
Could you show us how to save seeds from beets and carrots. For zone 4. I’m afraid they will just rut in the ground overwintering. Love your Chanel

Do what monkeys do; scrunch it up and then throw it in a puddle and then scoop it off the top!
