Today its time to fly out the F4F-3 & F4F-4 in a Realistic Battle. Flew out with the F4F Wildcat for the first time since release of 2.15, Winds of Change. To check out its current performance, and found out exactly what this plane is about in RB, lets see how it went. Hope you enjoy :)

If I remember right, the -4 got heavier and a "new" engine didn't produce enough horsepower to compensate for that (more guns and the wing folding mechanism). Pilots didn't like the -4 and wanted to go back to -3 because it was too heavy and had "less firing time" (less rounds per gun) compared to the -3. -4 was slower and climbed slower. Apparently -4 also got more armor and self sealing tanks which also contributed to its overall weight. We can blame the RN pilots for requesting these modifications.

I love the F4F-3, the ammo lasts far longer with only 4x50cals. This plane excels in a downward spiral dogfight.

For the longest time I’ve been waiting for the FM-2 Wildcat, which is basically an F4F-3 with a far better engine, but even with what’s in-game, aside from the engine overheating, I usually have a great time with them

that would be a great addition to the game. A shame they're so preoccupied with jets.
One good thing to mention about the wildcat is how it was the only fighter at this point in the war that equipped a 2 stage mechanically driven supercharger for high altitude. (Spitfire, yak, mig, me-109, p-40, hurricane only had one stage).

109s was infinitely variable so infinity stage supercharger in 109.
im so glad someone is finally acknowledging the f4f wildcats. No one ever really gives it the recognition it deserves because they're trying to get to it's bigger brothers, the f6f and f4u. but it's a really solid plane. it can take hits, has some actually pretty good maneuverability with good energy, and 4-6 12.7s/50 cals will tear holes in just about anything at it's battle rating.
true, its br is not in sink with what the better planes have though, thats the problem. Still overlooked though, and very enjoyable.
I mean... The F-4F-4 now has a higher BR than the F4U-1a and the same as the USMC and d version...
I’m loving these entire vehicle line series! Especially the props. Can’t beat classic WWII warbird prop gameplay!

It really is one of the most fun plane on the game, the f4f-4 is my preferable choice as it just feels nice to have that extra firepower to finish an enemy plane, though i must say that the low climb rate, lack of wep at high altitude and overheating issues is kinda annoying, but nevertheless a decent plane for it's br

I love the wildcat it is a great turn fighter and I usually fly the version with the 4 50 cals

I largely skipped these when I was researching the US tree ages ago. I focused on the 'army airforce' line, like the P-36 instead. Probably because I wanted the P-38.

yea the naval aircraft are kinda limited in war thunder
Overlooked them because i thought there were better planes at this BR and these were so easy to take down
there are better planes, thats true, but, these are also great fun.

Really do enjoy the wildcats. Awesome dive performance, just slow to get energy back. Jengar always inspires me to go back and fly planes that I hadn't for awhile xD

Wildcats are probebly one of my top 10 favorate planes. they are so good in my eyes

Agreed! and they forced the us pilots to be creative with tactics, which troughout the war gave them the advantage against the experienced elite japanese pilots.

I like the F3 for the slower drain on ammo, but usually fly the Corsair instead for the same BR. I'll have to give these another few flights!
yeah, a revisit should be fun, and i also agree, a corsair at the same br is overall better.

It was my first combat aircraft I flew.
I love how it can handle high g maneuvers.
How heavily armored it was and how much damage it could take.
In my 3 years of online aerial combat gaming, I scored 51 kills.

I use the f4f-3 lately but I have a hard time getting the nose on target however I've been using long dives with this plane. According to your video, it's not really a good plane for that, now I know it's my style. Thanms

Historically, once the American pilots worked out the right tactics the Wildcat became the equal of the Zero. The Zero was a fantastic dogfighter but was a terrible energy fighter...once enemy pilots stopped playing into the Japanese hands and adopted boom and zoom and cooperative tactics like the Thatch Weave, the Zero's days were numbered.
By the time the Hellcat was on the scene, most of those pre-war, super-experienced Zero pilots were already dead. The the war went into the Turkey Shoot phase.
Love the plane, the fact that it's fast at loosing speed makes it some most planes overshoot when trying to hit you, Guns do decent damage and a well placed burst might kill most things I do prefer the 3 variant since dogfights are quite simple to win on this

I just started playing this game this is the best plane I have unlocked so far but I keep dying to people who sit over the spawn a billion feet up in the air and drop down on me and I can never climb up to them 😢
you shouldnt climb up to them while you're below them. You play ab from what you say. Advice is to dive away first, then climb further away from them, and come back to attack the spawn attackers when you are above them.
I enjoy the f4f-3 cuz it has a large range of functionality like boom and zoom or turn fighting (unless against a zero)

Check out the bf 109 f2 very under rated plane , it’s turn rate is insane if properly flown.
F2 is one of my least favorite 109's, but we'll revisit one day.
@@jengar6258 Since they changed the belts and damage of the explosive shell, it’s actually quite good now.
I prefer the f3f-4 since my aim isn't that great and having two extra guns means more bullets being sent out which in turn means I have a higher chance of hitting. And since the guns are spread out in the wings it creates sort of a shotgun effect.

Fair enough John, gotta use what works for you :) And TY mate, its the 2nd time i reached it, was at 25.007 the evening i dropped my ukraine is loosing video. I lost aroung 80 subs with that vid. So had to reach 25K again ;)
I have been flying War Thunder since the xbox360. Now playing on PS4. I used to love these planes. Since pS4 the flaps won’t deploy past 199kph. That is on both models. This has never happened with any other planes. Can anyone help me with this?
