- This is actual home camcorder footage I took myself when I traveled to WrestleMania 13 in Chicago/Rosemont, IL. At this time, the wrestlers and the WWF Travel Club fans all stayed in the same hotel. These days, the WWF staff has their own hotel. This an extended conversation Bob Backlund was having in the hotel lobby with the fans about his political views, wrestling, and life in general.
The man who held and defended the WWF title for 6 years before Hogan appeared.
This is the real Bob Backlund. This isn't a work.

I understand what he is saying however what he forgets is that he left us not the other way around. I was a 10 year old kid when Backlund dropped the belt and I was dying for the rematch to see him win back the title.. the rematch was set for the following month in the garden and i begged for and got tickets to go. But Backlund backed out of the match and instead HE endorsed Hulk Hogan on Saturday morning television as his replacement in the match. He came out on television and told the kids and the fans at home watching to get behind Hogan.. that Hogan was a good guy and that we should support him against the sheik. At the time I didn't know Hogan form a hole in the wall, but I knew Backlund and this is what he was telling me was right. So that's what I did. Now 35 years later he's mad that we did what he told us to do? It's his fault and he walked away from us with specific instructions to follow Hogan. We didn't pick Hogan over him... He picked Hogan for us and then left.
You do realize the WWE script right? Bob Backlund was told to endorse Hulk Hogan.
I meet Bob Backlund in 2019 he was very nice took a picture with him and got his autograph only cost me $50 bucks for both and I didn't have to name every single U.S. President🤦♂️😅 true story
He's just workin' em. It's in good sport. I saw him at the garden 12-26-13 signing autographs and taking pictures I nodded at him, and he nodded back.
Love that he talks shit on hogan. I always liked mr backlund. If you watch some of the WWE a&e programming, he still lives his gimmick. Just like Sergeant slaughter. Bring back Kay Fabe

Watching it in 2020, While they just wanted an Autograph, if you really pay attention to what he was saying and the knowledge, that more the bigger gift and reward if you think about it. Sure it may not be a signed keep sake but still.

It's crazy how Bob was saying that he was ashamed of the sexual innuendos and foul language clearly taking a shot at wcw little did he know wwf would shortly set the standard for that.

Wow, 100% superb working of the fans, kayfabe down the line. And the best part is, he could have signed them an autograph like many others, in silence, without looking at them like a chore, but instead, he gave them 15 minutes of time and engaged them personally which I bet they remembered and talked about more than they would have had he robotically and coldly signed a meaningless autograph.

Bob is one of my all-time favorite wrestlers, and while alot of what he is saying makes sense, there is no reason he can't take a minute to sign an autograph for his fans! He seems very bitter about the business, but in the end if the fans didn't buy the tickets, he would have never had a career.
He's old school, heels didn't sign autographs back then.

I hate when folks use the "You make alot of money and I said hi to you and you ignored me." Folks these guys can't sit down and have a heart to heart with everyone. You paid your money and got to have a wonderful experience at wrestlemania that doesn't make the performers and wrestlers obligated to speak with you.

Bob was a good wrestler and mr. backlund was a brilliantly performed character but the weirdness seen here is just bob. he is a massive weirdo. not much kayfabe here, mostly just bob. He tries to leave like 50 times and he cant help but keep replying 😂
and he genuinely believes all that crap he heard on Rush Limbaugh. the mr. backlund character is based on Limbaugh. even though bob was a big fan of Limbaugh, he recognized Limbaugh was a massive heel.
