I would like to thank you for posting this video and an explanation along the way. I have a JCB 214S and have been having a great deal of difficulty lately... it started with poor performance, running rough, then had a lot of difficulty starting. I tried a few things, got it to start once after changing the fuel filter, draining and cleaning the sediment bowl, priming the whole system. It only ran for about 20 minutes and then wouldn’t start again, so I went further and based on your video, checked the operation on the mechanical fuel pump. While cranking the engine, it would not fill the sediment bowl.... hand priming resulted in hearing a lot of air bubbles in the tank but eventually after about 45 seconds of manual pumping the sediment bowl started to fill.....slowly at first but then faster. There are a few of the solenoid connections which also require the same type of work as yours did, so while I am waiting for a new fuel lift pump to arrive I’ll repair those. Ordered both the JCB mechanical pump and ordered a 12v electric pump as a backup or if the part ends up being wrong. It would cost me about 1500.00 for transporting this machine to and from a shop (and that’s before any actual mechanic looking at the machine), so this video has been invaluable. I’m all about trying to do things on my own when I can, which sometimes is even a necessity given where we live (Alaska). I consider myself handy and mechanically inclined but don’t know my way around Diesel engines quite yet. Thank you again! Very much appreciated!
Glad I could help, I hope you read the update in the description. I had to replace the sediment bowl itself, as it wasn't sealing properly and allowing air into the system which would cause it to lose prime. I'm no diesel expert either :), but since replacing the sediment bowl I haven't had any starting or running issues. Good luck with yours!
