    Great video. I'm not a fan of the fact that the maker doesn't want the image shared. Part of the benefit of these weekly videos is to try the specific techniques on the same image for which your notes were developed. If a person doesn't want to share an image they shouldn't have the benefit of you developing the image. Huge fail on the part of the person submitting the image.

    Dave, another beauty! Love it. I have been using depth maps and mids3 channels incorporated into my masks. Lots of fun. I love this one. Ever since I saw that video about depth maps, I am becoming more of a believer in using them. I love seeing how they work for you as well. Anyway, thank you once again! Fridays with Dave are awesome.

    Very nice edit Dave. I like your application of the Depth Map technique to start things off in Photoshop, instead of proceeding with your typical Balance and Contrast procedure.
    I am quite disappointed you were not allowed to offer this photo for downloading. Yes your PDF notes are available, thank you, but for me to really feel knowledgable, adept, confident and confortable at editing at the high-level I am seeking, I need to replicate your edits with the photo.

    Another great edit Dave with new techniques to try out. I may be nitpicking here, but my eye seems to be drawn to that little rectangular cloud just to the left of the whitish cloud in the upper left corner, so I'd remove it.

    Thanks for the new technique! I would have liked to have worked along with you on the image but couldn’t because the maker DIDN’t WANT YOU TO SHARE IT. Why would someone submit an image to you and not want it used in your videos? 😮😮 A suggestion ; if an image is submitted to you, only use it to demonstrate in a video when the maker allows it to be downloaded. The educational experience is severely compromised when you can’t work on the same image.

      Have now tried the depth map feature in TK9 on a few photos. I have to say this is a game changer. Very very pleased with the results so far and the ease of use of the depth map. I am primarily a landscape junky and the depth map works so very well on landscapes. A big thank you to you Dave for producing this video.

    Hi Dave, thanks for another great tutorial. Living in Switzerland I have a lot of photos of mountains and I find the use of the Depth Map much more useful and easier to use than any other method. The way it feathers the edit from Foreground to Background is fantastic. I also find it useful to adjust the colors which should fade the further you get into the Background.

    Thanks again Dave, I like the depth map and it got me thinking if you use the other function on the tool i.e. the focus area, how would you use that?

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  Місяць тому

      It uses Photoshop's Focus Area and it finds areas of focus within a range. I haven't used it much. I'll have to do some experimenting.

    have you tired using the depth map with TKs clarity action Dave. It's a great way of targeting clarity. it also works well with soft pop and Orton to target certain areas.

    Thanks for your tutorial, Dave. When you added the effect of the TK Magic Mixer it looks like you did not click on the "+" sign to add the channel mixer as a layer; is this correct? I understood that you have to click "plus" on the Magic Mixer for it to work on the image via an adjustment layer. Will you kindly clarify for me? Thank you!

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  Місяць тому

      That is Correct. You can add a Magic Mixer by Clicking the "+", Randomize Button or any of the Color Channel Buttons on the Magic Mixer.

    HI Dave, When I command click on the focus mask to get a depth map I get an error message - Type Error Cannot Read Properties of undefined (reading "span LENSBLUR"). What's going on here? Thanks, Dave. Larry Greenbaum

      I saw that Tony responded to another comment about a similar issue and it might help you. Here is Tony's comment: This might be an odd language issue associated with TK9 being translated into six different languages. Try this. Open the fly-out menu in the upper right corner. Choose a different language. Now try making the Depth Map. If it works, go back to the fly-out menu and re-choose your preferred language.

      Curtis go into the Photoshop Menu and choose Filters/Neural Filters and Click On Depth Blur. If you have never downloaded that filter you will need to do so and then this feature in TK9 should work. I explained this in last weeks video but forgot to mention it in this video. I hope this helps.

      What do you mean by a "dead end loop"? I just checked it and it is working. You should be taken to the (Linear Profile Repository Page). You need to scroll down and find your camera and also check on the check boxes and you will be able to download the profile for your camera. Tony has profiles for most cameras. If you can't find yours, you can reach out to Tony by clicking the Contact Link at the top of the page. I hope this helps.
