This will likely be buried in the comments, but .. It was August 2008, I was 23 and in a long term relationship with a cutie who I loved to death but had some very odd indie music tastes once in awhile. She got into All Hour Cymbals and it took me a minute to come around to it. After yet another incredible night out with all of our friends and intense drunken revelry, the following morning I kissed her and left for work at 9am on a Sunday while we individually dealt with our hangovers. As I passed by the Golden Gate Bridge on a bus towards my job, knowing she was safe in bed, 2080 played in the headphones and I cried. Joyful tears. Still come back to this every once in awhile for that nostalgia hit. The entire album is amazing.
There is a difference between unknown and underrated. Underrated means that they're known but not appreciated. Unknown leaves the potential for future appreciation. With enough of us talking about it, we can actualize that appreciation.
It's been over a decade, and this is still one of my favorite songs of all time. I bought the CD the day it came out and saw them in concert at Lollapalooza and Coachella. Just takes you to a magical place.
Lucky you, it's a great one. First time I ever heard it I was amazed, like 15 years ago at the highest peak of a crazy mushroom trip , once it faded I heard it again sober and it was just as amazing! Lol
One of the greatest songs of all fucking time. Listen to this song daily and have done for the past 5 or so years. When I imagine this song, I picture an English or so, 1500's castle setting, where during a nighttime candle lit feast, a gathering of jesters etc, and a group of musicians (this band, in modern day clothing) are belting out this song for the king and companies' personal entertainment. Love it.
Peter Anderson I listen to it almost every day for about 3 years now. I'm still looking for people to chant; "yeah yeah we can all gather the chance to be handsome farmers... etc" with. This song needs to be enjoyed communally. Amazing when you know you will forever enjoy a "popsong" I fucking love them too man.
I can't sleep when I think about the times we're living in I can't sleep when I think about the future I was born into Outsiders dressed up like Sunday morning With no Berlin wall what the hell you gonna do It's a new year, I'm glad to be here It's a fresh spring, so let's sing In 2080 I'll surely be dead So don't look ahead, ever look ahead It's a new year, I'm glad to be here It's a fresh spring, so let's sing And the moon shines bright on the water tonight So we won't drown in the summer sound If you find me I'll be sitting by the water fountain Picket signs, letdowns, meltdown on Monday morning But it's alright, it's alright, it's alright, it's alright 'Cause in no time, they'll be gone, I guess I'll still be standing here It's a new year, I'm glad to be here It's a fresh spring, so let's sing In 2080 I'll surely be dead So don't look ahead, ever look ahead It's a new year, I'm glad to be here It's a fresh spring, so let's sing And the moon shines bright on the water tonight So we won't drown in the summer sound Yeah, yeah, we can all grab at the chance to be handsome farmers Yeah, you can have twenty-one sons and be blood when they marry my daughters And the pain that we left at the station will stay in a jar behind us We can pickle the pain into blue ribbon winners at county contests Yeah, yeah, we can all grab at the chance to be handsome farmers Yeah, you can have twenty-one sons and be blood when they marry my daughters And the pain that we left at the station will stay in a jar behind us We can pickle the pain into blue ribbon winners at county contests It's a new year, I'm glad to be here It's a fresh spring, so let's sing In 2080 I'll surely be dead So don't look ahead, ever look ahead It's a new year, I'm glad to be here It's a fresh spring, so let's sing And the moon shines bright on the water tonight So we won't drown in the summer sound Yeah, yeah, we can all grab at the chance to be handsome farmers Yeah, you can have twenty-one sons and be blood when they marry my daughters And the pain that we left at the station will stay in a jar behind us We can pickle the pain into blue ribbon winners at county contests Yeah, yeah, we can all grab at the chance to be handsome farmers Yeah, you can have twenty-one sons and be blood when they marry my daughters And the pain that we left at the station will stay in a jar behind us We can pickle the pain into blue ribbon winners at county contests
I’ve been a wreck for a few weeks. I’ve listened to this song off and on since 2006/7. I think militant belief in anything is silly now, and I bawled for the first time like my soul needed to while this played a few hours ago. I broke through.
i was so into this song when it came out and still am years later this song is probably from one of my favorite era's in indie rock alot stuff that has come out since hasn't been as good love the early mid 2000's indie rock era!
YEAH YEAH We can all grab at the chance to be handsome farmers. YEAH you can have 21 sons that'll be blood when they marry my daughters. And the pain that we left at the station will stay in a jar behind us. We can pickle the pain into blue ribbon winners at county contests
I would imagine that the majority of people watching this and reading these comments won't be alive to see the year 2080. A fun/not so fun fact depending on your way of thinking.

Just explains why society is so hurt and is an absolute anthem by the indie kings. How do they have so many raw timeless masterpieces?
