What a wonderful , entertaining ,educational, and at the same time humorous with just put in without overdoing it. I just keep learning from your videos . Thank you so much Marie for sharing this all of us!,! Well done.😎👍👍👍👍
Well, I learned France still has overseas possessions I didn't know about. But my high school world history paper was on the French Revolution, I studied French in college under a professor from Lyon, I studied the history of the Franks from the Roman days up through Charlemagne, and the European wars have always been fascinating to me. It's kind of funny though that the regions in the countries of Europe are more along tribal lines whereas the states in the US are wherever somebody decided to draw a line on a map.
Yes, whereas the borders between European countries are probably more the result of wars and politics I think,! For example, if I as a Dutchman travel to the Flanders region in the North of Belgium, I can speak Dutch! But as a result of the outcome of certain wars/politics, we do not live in a unified country! Some people would say, luckily not! 😅 Although we get along nowadays! My father spend his youth in the northeastern province of Groningen. Whenever he visits the part of Germany right accross the border, he notices that people can talk to him in the particular Groningen dialect, which is way different from standard Dutch or German. So borders between countries feel often quite artificial in Europe! Luckily, after ww2 we have learned to live peacefully together and deal with our conflicts in a peaceful manner!
When I was a student in France, I had many great experiences and saw many great sites. One particular happy memory was taking a course on the French Impressionist painters. The French professor was very informative and he made learning very interesting and enjoyable. I had the opportunity to see the Jeu de Paume Museum, which exhibited the works of Monet, Manet, Renoir, and others. The Jeu de Paume Museum was at that time, and perhaps still is, a part of the famous Louvre Museum in Paris. I was very fortunate as well to see La Jaconde, the Mona Lisa, which is also in the Louvre. I agree that all countries have their up and down sides, but that we should love our countries and do our own part to make them even better. I think we’re all better off when the world is at peace, so that peoples can pursue and live meaningful and happy lives. Vive la paix! Vive une monde paisible.
Yep, I noticed that. That bit confused me in the episode. Hope that's not some official term they use elsewhere in relation to consuming snails because it's just inaccurate. They're all just invertebrates.
Really great video Marie. I learned a lot in a very short time. It's always fun to learn new things and thank you for exposing me to it 🤗 please take care and stay safe. I can't wait for tomorrow's video 😍
Tremendous ! I loved his geography video and your commentary, and I’m amazed by his linguistic skills, but I wish I could listen to him at half speed so I could absorb more information! But it was totally outstanding and shows why France and the French people and culture are so wonderful!✨🌻🦋
Wow! What a super video, Marie! I learned so, so much in just a few minutes. I always knew about the close bond between France and the USA, and I know how much we love to insult each other, but it always comes from our mutual history and respect. What I learned more about, is France's influence on the rest of the world that continues today. By the way, all those unusual French Foods, I have enjoyed for years, especially Escargot!. I love it! And, although I believe there are many West Coast of the USA wines that are equal to those of France, the vines they are all using, originated in France, so, in a sense, all wines are French wines! Lord knows, I do my part for the wine market!😁 Love you, Marie! Keep the great videos coming! 😊😘
Bonjour Marie! Yes, that channel is fun! Yeah, a few things have changed since the video posted, most interestingly is that the Blue on the French flag was darkened last year...and nobody seemed to realize it until recently! Bonne journee! ~Be Blessed
The blue shade has came back to its original color that was changed by Valéry Giscard d'Estaing in 1974. BTW, the original flag colour hasn't been modified in French navy ships in 1974. And French navy flag colors repartition isn't identicall : blue 30%, white 33% and red 37%.
Hi Marie - I enjoyed this video - informative and interesting! I can't wait to go back and watch it at half speed so I can see how much I missed. He sure packs in a lot of information. :0) 🐺
🤩🥰 ----------- Wow, what a wonderful video and an equally great reaction! I love your sweater! I don’t know what Rémy’s nickname is for you, but “my little bunny” would be at the top of my list! 🤩🥰
Actually I really admire french by keeping their language and culture very well compare to other European countries which most of them are influenced by American and English language and their culture.
Wich one? The UK is the only european country ive seen over americanized,, other european countries just consume the typical music and series from the USA but that doesnt mean they give up their whole culture, the same of you consume french music or movies
Unfortunately, I have only been to Paris (several times), Normandy, and the Chamonix ski area. However, the future is a mystery so maybe..... I went to high school (boarding school) in western Switzerland and Escargot was a fairly regular menu item in the dining room for suppers. I loved it and still do.
As a French, travelling a lot in France, DOM-TOM and Nothern/Western EU, I expected more updates from this video. About worktime, retirement and so on.. In France there is a standard model for wortime (35H/Week), Retirement (64 yo now). But this is just a model and this is NEVER respected in non-fully public work. You have a 35H contract, but you have to work more to not being fired and you won't have one more €. If you take a look of the effective private employment worktime in France, it is 46.7H/week (which is higher than the EU average), The real full retirement law is 67yo (64 is the right to retire. this means you cant retire BEFORE 64, but a longtime after is possible and for financial purpose you often won't retire before 67). New Caledonia voted (3 times) to remain in France. France unconventional meat consuption is decreasing very fast as well as for raw meat and snails (and for toxoplasma gondii... every countries are exposed, french rate is just higher by a very little percentage). Strikes are worse and worse, that's true, because it is loosing all it's social advantage very fast. The Macron's governement (since 2017) is liberal, hates social protection and i's the first one to totally ignores strikes. If you ignore someone who screams, he will scream louder. France is not as well ranked for tourism. Population and yearly tourist are almost equal for now. France behaviour about US and UKhas to sides. The side which kind of likes US/UK stay the same, but the side hating US (especially) is growing fast. The "agricultural goldmine" suffers from climatic changes 4 times faster than world average. I don't have exact ranking for this point but I'm pretty sure that soil resilience is at EU average by now.
I loved this video. It sure was different from what I'm used to you showing. So I'll try to watch more of these kinds of videos you put out. Home Free has a new UA-cam Christmas video with a group called Texas Hill. It's called "Go Tell it on the Mountain" and sounds wonderful.
His presentation of French history was similar to the TGV. A high-speed rendition of facts and features that went by rather quickly. I know I will be entertained and informed by any video that you share. This proves that you have a great command of the English language because you were able to follow him without having to pause frequently.
My encounters with French speaking persons: Quebec (Kebehk), metis of St. Boniface (Winnipeg), tourist taking motorcycles on a Route 66 roadtrip, 7th Day Adventist from Martinique visiting Cahokia Mounds and Battle Creek, Michigan, Belgian tourist doing the Western Loop in the U.S., Cajuns, the Underground in Montreal, French adjuncts/pilots at Scott AFB military airlift command, the varied French speakers along the Gaspe and New Brunswick coast of Canada, French tourist at the International Peace Tower in Winnipeg (an odd place because not normally a tourist destination). A tour manager who became a personal friend who is half Apache and half French (origins) and usually accompanied me to Canada, and Re-enactments at the Old French Fort Chartre in Illinois. Records of Colonial Pay Du Illinois and Colonial Louisiana are found mainly in Quebec (those that survive).
JAQUES BREL IS BELGIAN !!! Walonian to be precise, although he alsoo sang in Flemmish/dutch. I am a fan of him and I grew up next to the Belgian border in the Netherlands. They could named claimed Charles Aznavour instead.
That rivalry is so real!! At least, it was back in 1995, when as a footballer for the US Navy, we beat the French Navy, 2-1. The secret was we had immigrants from Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Jamaica and Philippines on our team. They were so mad!!! 😂🤣
I sometimes think about what my life might be like if my family hadn't been exiled from France. Maybe today I would be living there instead. My ancestors were Huguenots. I believe only one male made it to the United States, I can't trace my family back past that. I wonder what happened to the others, if they were killed or left somewhere else. That guy found love here and had sons who ended up fighting for independence here.
are those food considered not normal in outside? I live in Brazil and Brazil is descendent of Portugal, so these types of meat are considered normal here too, and well, there also is some things considered "weird" that only exist here
Same in Germany, usually. But France & Germany suffers from what we call "Americanization". I think its ok that the majority of the Radio is in its regional language. There was a time when almost every French & German copied US-American hits and translated them. Originality suffered by focusing on Anglo-American Art. In a true sense, French music-culture would have developed much differently without the World War but same stands for Germany. - Its European "flair" has a "american" taste to it. And the more it loses its flair, the less interesting and creative it is.
Bonjour 😃 December the first. I see why France remains everyone's favourite destination. There's a lot to digest from Paul's videos with his quickfire style, young students from around the 🌐 would love it. I find it Intriguing leaning about what it means to be quintessentially french beyond just the usual clichés. Looking at a map(I'm putting one up on the wall) with all those regions having their own character, custom's & history along with the glorious countryside 🏞️ & of course the cafe life ☕ 🧀 🐚 fine 🍷 and your more appreciative of the Art's is what keeps people like me coming back for more. 🎓Trivia : ancient snails from Pyrenees have been found as far a field as Ireland. It's been educational , having watched it again not knowing much about the Dom Tom, the islands off Australia, and people's dream of paradise 'Tahiti'. The second largest economic zone was news to me. Going back to the mainland ,i found it a little worrying that there's a parasite you might have been exposed to , thankfully you appear to be immune to such negative attitudes. There's so much as a country you have to proud & fortune for Marie , maybe it takes a outsider like me to remind you all of it. Someday from 2022 I'll love to visit but wouldn't know where to begin, your spolt for choice, being a Celt I'm sure I'll feel at home among the wild coast of Brittney, I've always wanted to visit the mysterious standing stones of Cagnac. As for Paris 🗼 does everyone else who isn't from there feel the same way as you , it's probably because there's to many tourists (a lot of them Japanese) every big city see's itself as the centre of the universe. Anyway it's been long enough , there's to much to cover, i save it for another time along with more experiences related to your videos i know you like everyone to share more with you. If you appreciate my support all I ask is you send a heart every now & then so i feel you still want me here. Hope you enjoyed.the Xmas lights from around the world i sent you & 😺 Adventures, your looking snug in your winter wear, stay warm and Happy. 🙏⛄ 💌
Correction from a French person, horse butcheries were closed in 1986, and it's a product that is not in supermarkets, so to speak, horse meat has not been consumed in France for a long time, except maybe by one or two old farmers here and there. The idea here is that consuming horse meat is seen as akin to consuming a pet nowadays. Frog legs are less trendy among the youth, and they haven't been selling well since the late '90s (rabbit as well). There are still a few frozen bags in the supermarket, it looks like poultry in appearance (white/pink muscle), but it's very small. On the other hand, snails are still consumed (not by the young obviously), mainly during Christmas by some families. These are farmed snails, and there's hardly a difference in their treatment/cleaning compared to sea whelks. However, I've never seen them on a family dinner table, at uncles' or friends'... in my life so far. It's not a custom, it's probably still very much consumed, but by a certain category of people; however, you'll find them on the menu of some brasseries. As for the mentioned poultry, it's not exclusively made in France. In fact, it's becoming increasingly rare to find duck breast or foie gras that comes directly from France; it often originates from the EU, which also consumes these poultry products. Regarding cheese, that's true, but I'd like to give a nod to the Netherlands, which is also a cheese country, and by the way, tulips, wooden shoes, windmills, bicycles... For Toxoplasmosis, it doesn't happen at the same time, but rather an exposure estimated over a lifetime. Moreover, even if it's a benign disease, women are screened, and according to the mandatory serological screening of pregnant women in France, the number of infections acquired during pregnancy is estimated at 2700 per year, so the person in the video probably likes to sensationalize because he's talking nonsense on this subject, luckily. The black population is indeed higher than 2%, French figures are manipulated by politics, you will see it for yourself when you come. I don't have an opinion on this, but immigration is massive in France, the Muslim religion is very present, almost everything is halal now (free healthcare in France and various financial aids attract). As for Celtic history, we know it, both us and the English, like the Americans, must know that they are originally Europeans and so guess... :) Otherwise, the part about forbidden words made me burst out laughing, sorry, but this sentence is absurd, and it's completely the opposite, in fact, we officially incorporate a lot of words into the dictionary, whether it's youth slang or English sometimes. Besides, we have no other word to mention the weekend, there is no synonym, everyone says "finally the weekend," "I'm on the weekend," "it's the weekend," in short, there is no other word, my parents already said that at their birth (they are 70 years old) and I don't think there has been another word to define these two days that have defined the weekend since they exist on the calendar :D Also, a blog has always been a blog (as evidenced by Skyblog, the most popular French site in the early 2000s), and you will see "parking" written on all signs in France as well, in short, misinformation here. Also, it's not 6 or 7 hours but indeed 7 hours, 35 hours are mandatory for a full week's salary. Retirement is at 64 years, not 62. It's very true for Japan, and it started with the audiovisual world in the 1980s.
That was very entertaining and informative. It may be a more effective means of educating the current generation who want their knowledge to come in short bursts.
Forgive me if I misheard, but when he said there are rules that radio broadcasts must be of at least 40% French origin and at least 70% in French language, I thought you said that isn't true. If I heard you right, is it something that used to be true? I know here in the US, depending on the area, you can find a lot of Spanish language radio stations. But then again, the US does not have an official language. English is the primary language, but we don't have an official language.
Marie, you could react to the most famous, fictional, "Not a Frenchie, but a Belgie" of all time, Monsieur Hercule Poirot, the famed detective created by Dame Agatha Christie.
As a french person I absolutely love every Agatha Christie works. I am a huge fan of the series "Hercule Poirot" starring David Suchet which been broadcast on french tv for several years in a row. We also have our own successful french adaptation called "les petits meurtres d’Agatha Christie" for some years now. The series exist since 2008 and are are divided in 3 different periods of time, the 50’s, the 60’s and 70’s with 3 different cast. It depict 3 different teams solving the plots from A. Christie’s books, all universes combined (Poirot, Marple, and others separated novels). The set of the series is the northern part of France pretty close from England.
Oui !
As an update, on the "production front" You could've said that in the past 15 years we sold every means of production we had therefore relinquishing a big part of our sovereignty to the EU (usa). We can't produce much now and are on the brink of a disastrous winter. Cocorico. (To the non french out there : Do you know why we took the rooster as our mascot ? because even with its two feet buried in shit he still manages to sing.)
It is true, France is a very beautiful country with lovely people, it has everything going for it: scenery, wine, food, history, cheese and bread but I could never go there, I would end up on the menu. When Jesus returns he will vacation in Nice, because it is so nice.
There are absolutely no words about Russia. If we were not in your history textbook, then I agree that Russia is nobody, but what about 1814 and Alexander I, when the French shouted to the Russian emperor in Paris: "King of kings" and in two world wars we were allies?
That the French shouted to the Tsar "king of kings" you see I have a huge doubt. Since the French spirit was after the fall of Napoleon fiercely republican. The only memories that the Russians have left are the rapes in the countryside and chronic alcoholism, hence the moy "bistro" derived from the Russian "quick" that they shouted to drink as much in as little time as possible.
Salut !

French white in "france metropolitan" is actually consider autre mer francais (french outside of france metropolitan) as migrant because of their skin colour. Mostly french don't like immigration just like Poland and Hungary. They try to stop legal migrant to get a job by the administration, and many legal migrants are jobless event a doctors or teachers too is difficult to become a doctors and teachers in France. 1000 french doctors and only 1 migrant doctor can do their job. 1000:1. I can consider french is more racist then the other region compare to Germany, Spain, and UK. The french police is always ask ID from skin coloured people but not white people. They always say that migrant come to France just to enjoy their rich and take their money away. It's so many negative thought of french to thier children too, do not talk to skin coloured people, because of they are poor and they steel your money etc. White French is not friendly at all, they react friendly when they need something from you, look for help or ask for money.
Really? His lessons are one of the few geography lessons that any high school in the U. S. will actually listen to. No, he is not a professor; he is attempting to give viewers a brief, entertaining, yet educational approach to a subject that is boring for a lot of people.
It's kind of impossible to gauge how the US is, even if you're a native here. Seriously, the country is so ludicrously massive and has so many different cultures and people groups. Wouldn't listen to GN from a scholarly perspective, but they have a substantial amount of research on the countries they cover, especially in the newer episodes.
What a wonderful , entertaining ,educational, and at the same time humorous with just put in without overdoing it. I just keep learning from your videos . Thank you so much Marie for sharing this all of us!,! Well done.😎👍👍👍👍
j'ai du mal a y croire pour la radio xD

What did you study abroad for in france?
Wow, I have a new appreciation for France! Now I want to visit it even more. Thanks for the video Marie! ❤
Les américains semble d une ignorance catastrophique... La France... OK mais allez voir toute l Europe !!! C est plus qu une civilisation.
07:23 He made a mistake in calling snails insects. They are actually molluscs.

And Jacques Brel was a Belgian... A few other mistakes, too.
This was so fun to watch with you. Geography now! also has a video about all the French regions that would be a great follow up to this video!

Very interesting and entertaining video Marie. Learned a lot I didn't know about France. Looking forward to your next video.
So good to see you again, Marie! Love the braids!!
This was very interesting Marie. I'm going to watch it a couple more times. It went by so fast. Great to learn more about your country. Thanks.
French Tastic thank you for your reaction to Geography Now, France. It was amazing and wonderful.
Lord knows, I do my part for the wine market!😁 Love you, Marie! Keep the great videos coming! 😊😘
the process in west coast and in France aren't the same bro
Totally interesting. 😀 Found out and learned a bunch. Made me smile.

I knew that there was a reason France is my favourite place in Europe. The best. I learned a lot. Thanks Marie

Trust me it’s an everyday fight
Today I don't know if peoples here fights more muslim influence cause of racism or american influence cause of basic inteligence
Very interesting and informative. Thank you for sharing. Stay well and be safe. France is complex.
My favorite country in the world all time from Armenia 🇦🇲❤️🇨🇵✝️🙏
Unfortunately, I have only been to Paris (several times), Normandy, and the Chamonix ski area. However, the future is a mystery so maybe.....
I went to high school (boarding school) in western Switzerland and Escargot was a fairly regular menu item in the dining room for suppers. I loved it and still do.
Good description of FRANCE.
I can see the pride in your eyes 💜
I loved this video. It sure was different from what I'm used to you showing. So I'll try to watch more of these kinds of videos you put out. Home Free has a new UA-cam Christmas video with a group called Texas Hill. It's called "Go Tell it on the Mountain" and sounds wonderful.
His presentation of French history was similar to the TGV. A high-speed rendition of facts and features that went by rather quickly. I know I will be entertained and informed by any video that you share. This proves that you have a great command of the English language because you were able to follow him without having to pause frequently.
The US Marines go to French Guiana to train in jungle warfare with le Légion étrangère.
Yes but no, that was before.
They gave up training with the Legion "too hard, too hot, only crazy people train with the French"
@@olivierpuyou3621 Wrong. A guy I know trained there a year ago
That was cool, so informative.
We love the french here in America , i love that our two countries share a passion for freedom.
thank you so much la belle ville est bordeaux de plus il y a gordon ramsay qui a un grand restaurant just amazing
Geography Now is a great channel. I have been a regular watcher since the M countries. Syria drops this week!
This channel has a video dedicated to French departments, where he goes into more detail. You should react that :)
JAQUES BREL IS BELGIAN !!! Walonian to be precise, although he alsoo sang in Flemmish/dutch. I am a fan of him and I grew up next to the Belgian border in the Netherlands. They could named claimed Charles Aznavour instead.
That's true. The confusion is often made because he was French speaker, and he often flirted with the world of French song.
Love the LSU flag and the Cajun license plate (love from the most french part of the US)....as well as the Mexican La Llorona on the walls.....
He's going to have to redo each country as the latest episodes have been averaging 45+ minutes while keeping the same deluge of information.
That rivalry is so real!! At least, it was back in 1995, when as a footballer for the US Navy, we beat the French Navy, 2-1. The secret was we had immigrants from Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Jamaica and Philippines on our team. They were so mad!!! 😂🤣
Marie Skolodska Curie was Polish.
"hello! Ouais,... tais toi" 🤣
I live in Brazil and Brazil is descendent of Portugal, so these types of meat are considered normal here too, and well, there also is some things considered "weird" that only exist here
I like it, great video Miss Marie...............:-) Oh I do like your Hair......... :- )
For radio's enforcement law to have french music --> It is the case
Same in Germany, usually. But France & Germany suffers from what we call "Americanization".
I think its ok that the majority of the Radio is in its regional language. There was a time when almost every French & German copied US-American hits and translated them. Originality suffered by focusing on Anglo-American Art. In a true sense, French music-culture would have developed much differently without the World War but same stands for Germany.

Its European "flair" has a "american" taste to it.

Otherwise, the part about forbidden words made me burst out laughing, sorry, but this sentence is absurd, and it's completely the opposite, in fact, we officially incorporate a lot of words into the dictionary, whether it's youth slang or English sometimes.
You should watch Oversimplified's French Revolution and the American Revolution. They are videos on youtube and are very good.
I got a lot of information from that! Boy, did he talk fast though! I'm a native English-speaking person and he was a bit fast even for me.
"Can we talk about Brexit?"
Preferably not as it makes me embarrassed to be British.
I think it used to be true and might still be. I don’t listen to the radio enough anymore to say, so I’ll have to check on the internet 😊
He is really good isn't he?
Well, I learned a lot but I don't think my retention of what I learned will remain for long. except the number of snails consumed. Nice video
Le meilleur pays du monde !
12:29 that’s the case
Hey Marie, did you get a new P.O box sorted out yet?
No 😔 I should get a new one next year!
Be proud to be French!
Euh....
He forgot about the Cajuns of Louisiana

Yeah this guys work on the US isn’t very good either. I’d suggest not taking him as a serious source of information.
Wrong, ukraine is bigger
