  • I've been seeing a lot of my favorite creators using the term "AI" lately when it comes to creative work. There are some seriously powerful AI tools out there that have me and many others worried our jobs could be at risk.
    I discuss two AI tools that are freaking out coders and video creators/cinematographers. One, Devin, can basically automate an entire software development lifecycle! The other, Sora, can generate photorealistic 1-minute videos from just a text prompt.
    Watch for my personal example of how leveraging AI tools like Midjourney and ChatGPT helped me create my most viral video ever recently. I really don't think I could have made that video as successful without AI's assistance.
    The big question is - is AI here to destroy creative jobs and replace us? Or is it actually going to make us "future superpower creators" by augmenting our abilities?

    This is such an important discussion that requires a lot of nuance, because a lot of people have such a paralytic fear of AI that the mere mention of it makes them viscerally angry. A lot of people react to AI with such scorn and vitriol that they don't want anything to do with it. Seeing what certain people are doing with AI worries me, but in general I've found a few useful AIs that I've got quite a bit of utility from.

    It is of course complicated but as a once art student it has long been known that the true artist who embraced mediums that could convey their original ideas. It is artisans with good techniques but unoriginal thinking creating formulaic work that AI threatens the most.

      Absolutely, embracing original ideas and pushing boundaries in your artistry will always set you apart from formulaic work for sure.

    I'm amazed and scared all at the same time. Not because of the wow factor. What concerns me is the law of unintended consequences. We really have no idea what the real implications are. Example.....
    What if we can 'imagine' and make virtual babies and then we literally don't make more humans anymore. Seriously, we don't know how far this will go. I'm not knocking the WOW factor. I'm asking a set of questions. Why? What happens after that? And then what? And if we do manage to 'AI' it all... do we still need to exist?

    • @MikeRussell
      @MikeRussell  2 місяці тому +1

      Your question touches upon the broader implications of AI and it’ll be interesting to see where things go!

  • @earm5779
    @earm5779 2 місяці тому

    The ai will take the place of people who don't know what to make. If you have programs, if you have something, plans, to work on, ai would be the tool

    • @MikeRussell
      @MikeRussell  2 місяці тому

      The AI can indeed assist those who need guidance. The human directing is crucial for sure.

    • @earm5779
      @earm5779 2 місяці тому

      @@MikeRussell for now the human "hand" is needed. But when an improved ai comes, said agi, it will do the things in an automatic way, without prompt and it will improve itself. This could bring new events like the self-awareness of the ai that could be in the state that it sees itself as a machine who has to improve, it will search for the best way to increase its ability and then it could auto-get that if it sees things that it doesn't need it could find a way to seat that aside. This is one of the possibility but ai is good tool so it's not bad.

    AI *will* replace creative people - not all of them, but many - because too many media organisations are happy with "good enough". They will embrace the opportunity to enhance their bottom line by getting rid of creative staff and replacing them with AI.
    You've demonstrated yourself that you're using AI for graphic design. You *might* have commissioned a graphic designer, but you certainly won't now, and neither will lots of organisations for whom generative AI will be "good enough".
    I can easily see AI replacing radio production staff. Radio production really hasn't advanced much, if at all, since the mid-90s; the stuff I'm hearing now is very little different to the stuff we were making 30-odd years ago.
    The tools have changed, but there have been no real innovations. It's still beeps, zaps, stutters etc. I don't hear anything in the way of radio production that makes me sit up and think "Wow, THAT'S new and different". The last time that happened was, well, about 30 years ago, when Sean Caldwell and Kevin Eubanks came up with the XFX style of beeps and static bursts.
    Because of this, it will be relatively straightforward to train an AI model to churn out radio production at a rate no human production department could possibly compete with. It won't be innovative, but it'll be good enough. And since radio groups have shown how eager they are to maximise automation and minimise staff, they will grasp this opportunity with both hands.
    And of course, this will affect professional VOs as well. AI-generated voices will be "good enough". A select handful of real people might be able to make a living by licensing clones of their voice, but again, for many organisations who previously paid good money for a professional VO, an entirely generic AI voice will be "good enough".
    Call me needlessly negative if you like, but it's going to be an AI-driven race to the bottom in *many* creative sectors.

    • @MikeRussell

      Great points well made. Radio groups have been the first to automate things for sure 😝
