REM, argued as one of the first Alternative Rock bands, always had this thoughtfulness to their music than what you typically thought of as Alternative in the 90's. I didn't realize the bassline of the song was that much going on.
Yeah I agree with you. They had a very simple and basic SIY sound it that makes any sense. It just sounded like a band in a garage making very simple but melodic and catchy songs. Stipe had a great voice and the band did their thing. And YEAH that bassline is KILLER. Mike Mills is really underrated for how good he is.
I keep going in and out of REM's music throughout the years, and especially rediscovering their early 80's stuff that I didn't hear much of growing up as I was hearing when they were big in the 90's
I was also a junior in high school when this came out... so much great music from that time. Thanks for breaking this down, adding it to my list to learn. Mills is a very underrated bassist.
Welcome. In this video I broke it down.. talking to the camera.. and going through the bassline really slow.. but I took that out and just left in the short intro, the bass tab, and the little story about me running into Michael Stipe at the end. I may consider putting up another version that does the slow walkthrough for people who are just learning bass and can't follow tabs that well. What do you think. Thanks for your comment.
@@MurphyKargesBass I started playing a bit under 2 years ago, so I still consider myself a novice and following tabs is not that difficult for me. But I do find that musicians such as yourself, always have great insight into aspects of the song that we may not pick up from tabs alone. I'm always going to vote for additional breakdown if that's an option. There are a lot of youtubers out there posting tabs for songs, but you have way more insight and firsthand knowledge.
We're really lucky those four lads met and formed a band, they really took music serious and their craft once they started to take off too I hear. well, obviously.. :D
No we did not. If we would have I would have wanted it to be an old one. Although I did like Orange Crush a lot. Or maybe Losing My Religion.. but do it really different and acoustic or something..
Right back at you dude! In fact Cole and I were talking you today. For real. We're like.. Moe is a legend.. But only if Teran is around to agree with us!
