It’s not so much the sound ,it’s the action of all the horns being brought up in a single motion. When I marched with the Hawthorne Caballeros we were also known for our horn snap. We did not use any added sound from our horns, just the action and the crowd loved it.
For sure, just seeing all the horns go up so swiftly and cleanly is just beautiful
@@mvdaluz A bit of the sound is added when the horns snap (Because they make a little sound if you do it right), but I heard that SCV used rubber bands to intensify the sound. Still, it's small, but when all the sounds add up when SCV does it together the snap is audible.
Bill Duncan Apparently they had tuning slides pulled out then pushed them in as the horns came up
@@tylermoore3903 No, the sound happens on its own because of the metal rattling. 3rd valve slide since it's basically suctioned into place, when you snap your horn up, the air quickly rushes in and gravity works. The 3rd valve quickly pulls out a CM and then back in a CM. Same with mello 1st valve, etc.
Didn’t realize until just now that that chord prog to the backfield sounds like The Canyon from 99. Miss you already SCV!!
In this video, you can hear the snap at 8:51 when we brought our horns up...we figured out it was our valves bouncing slightly inside the casing...ua-cam.com/video/1jWksV1rpSk/v-deo.html&lc=UgxwwHCdYU5U6a93nfN4AaABAg.9K_YteRnDuZ9LjLCAdUxjq
00:58 OMG I JUST BUST A EARBASM
The title of this should be "SCV horn snap without mics and cymbals" Theres no way that sound made it to the top of lucas oil by itself.
does anyone know how they made the snap sound??? i was trying it with my friends and we thought loosening their valve caps would make the sound but then my friend lost his valve cap so I’m assuming that’s not it.... i can’t imagine it’s just snapping the horns up like there has to be something else!!! but it is scv so anything’s possible
It has nothing to do with altering the horn but everything to do with the action.Unless you have been in a line of 60 plus brass capable of snapping the horn, you wont get it.
I'm pretty sure they had some people kick in the kick slide during it. (But I'm not sure. I've come to this conclusion only by messing around with my own marching horn.)
Third valve slide click during the snap with the left hand. Only pheasable with a single-cover technique (hands where the would normally be while playing).
nicole valego when you’re at carry your valves are compressed and when you pull your horn up you kick in the third valve slide. On mello you kick in the first valve slide because you don’t have a ring on the third
So what actually makes this sound? Horn snaps are silent how does it make noise?
I have no idea, I’m trying to figure the same thing out coming from a drumline member
The sound come from their valves, they hold down their 3rd valve and release to make it snappier
From what I've heard it's the valves bouncing slightly in there casing from the force of the snap
When they have their horns down, they press their valves down. The snap comes from the valves bouncing in their casing. One of my instructors when I was in high school marched in SCV many years ago, and they did the same thing, even back when they used G bugles.
It comes from the 3rd valve slide. If you use the correct technique, the snap of the horn will come naturally.
I'm old enough to remember when we called this a horns up and did this as part of just putting the horn to our lips..now it's an effect.
To busy dancing and posing. Now they are gone.. good job staff
Man, I wish bands like this and of this size were common where I live. I've always wanted to play in a huge marching band. Years ago my school had 3 massive concert bands, about 4 rows each and did a national competition every year but I've had to watch as it gets smaller and smaller over the years until we have one band with about 25 people and we haven't done a competition for like 4 years. It's so sad and I wish music was promoted much more so we could play in the large groups that I always loved the sound of
Astro_Manta do some research. There might be some groups around you that you just dont know of.
Are band has 3 decent sized concert bands
Yeah my highschool marching band started my freshman year with 120 people and now in my senior year it is down to 35 with most people being seniors
This is a drum corps you can join
This is drum corp, not a high school. You can just join 😂
