Hi, I could be wrong but I was told the way you tie the excess himo (at the end) is only used for Japanese funeral rites. Ideally the butterfly knot at the end should have a "cross" type of shape. Just as a caveat, I could be wrong and you should do whatever your sensei deems appropriate.
Hi, The knot we use is fine. As far as we have been told it is a semi formal way of tying the himo. It is how we were taught. Maybe something of a sensei preference as we have seen several versions worn by different Japanese sensei. Thank you for your question
