Been using this method for many thousands of rounds, one little tip is to keep a pad with a small amount of resizing lube handy. First piece of brass or 2, roll on the lube pad and whenever it seems to start to stick a little, roll another piece of brass on it. method works great and is a lot less messier. Also is great for you hands! Bought the lanolin off amazon and the iso from parts store. Try it you won't be disappointed!
My brass guy told me about this process and suggested a 8:1 ratio, a bit thinner than your 6:1 ratio. I am just about out of my Dillon case lube, so excellent timing with this video. Thanks for showing how easy it can be.
Look up the SDS (Used to be MSDS, it's "Safety Data Sheet" now) and it has to by law list all the ingredients of anything that is shipped in commerce. Found out Lucas Gun Grease is actually is actually the same as their Marine Grease with a scent and color added. Cost? About $9 per ounce. Lucas Marine Grease is about $1 per ounce. Without the scent and the cool little dispenser tube of course.
This has truly been one of the most interesting videos I've seen in awhile. I don't reload because I'm a broke post-college guy but I've always liked the idea of doing it. I recently watched a video from IV8888 and he was talking about case lube and now this video. It's so awesome!
Thanks a bunch for this video. I was able to find 99% Iso/alc, and the health store in this town had the lanoline on the shelf. Surprising since you can't even buy decent socks here with 7300 population. We do have 7 Liquor stores tho!
I just started reloading and all I have is Lee lube in the tube. Was just about to go to Amazon to order some Dillans lube and decided to watch some youtube first. This is an awesome idea! Not only am I cheap, I'm also self sufficient and adventurous.
Hey, another member of the Hornady One Shot Stuck Case Non-Lube!! LOL Loaded 20 some years with RCBS lube pad....no problem. Tried Hornady Stuck Case one time and had to buy my first stuck case remover. Now I mix my own 99% alcohol + lanolin off Amazon. Not worth messing around with HEET. Plus you have a great disinfectant on hand for other uses. :-)
I ran out of case lube one day and bought some STP motor oil treatment! It too works good as a case lube and you can get it at any automotive store or Wal-Mart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just make sure you tumble your cases clean soon after sizing with lanolin. If you don't, you'll be sorry! That lanolin will gum up on the cases and it makes it a lot harder to get it off. Some folks have switched to HEET and castor oil, or HEET and mineral oil.
Thank you so much for this. I had been searching for best case lube without spending too much money when I just happened upon your most excellent video. Great stuff!
Many thanks for the information........I have used everything from Lee lube to STP......all messy to deal with....this looks to be the real deal........
I normally stock isopropyl 91% as a general purpose cleaner in my shop works great, cheap and I can get my wife to buy it at Walmart on the weekly shopping trip I will check the Red Heet. I have the lanolin in stock but it is impossible to get locally. Thanks
This is really amazing, thanks! I love finding these ways to save a few pieces of eight using DIY products. And the fringe benefit: Whenever my girlfriend bounces into the reloading room, I can grease her up as well. A win-win! :-)
Well I've actually made this a couple of years ago but it is a bit sticky when it dries. Maybe I've just used a bit too much or need to add more heat. So tonight, I was going to size some 223 cases and I used Hornady spay. Stuck the 2nd case. What a pain. When I get it out, I'm going back to my home made lube. Hope I have better luck.
+blueeyephil Ok, an update. I got my case unstuck. Shook up my home made lube real good. Spritzed 100 cases real good. Ran them all without another issue. But I picked up the Hornady Case Lube again and it has a ball in it too. Maybe I didn't shake it up good.
Howdy All, Mark, thanks for the vid. I like to dump my brass on a cookie sheet to dry, makes it easier to collect. you said something about stuck cases from the lube? I run my assembled cartridges through the tumbler with walnut shell media for about 10 min after to remove the dried lube, also makes the cartridges look like factory loads. Jerry
Great video thanks for doing it. Do you have a video for home brew IPA for enjoyment when done reloading? I was surprised it takes so long to dry. Have you tried this when using loading blocks?
make sure its LIQUID LANOLIN!! I bought the paste and thought "its all the same" well unless you want to have to heat the mixture every time you do resizing, go liquid & save yourself the headache.
You said go light on the lanolin but you went very heavy. For 12 oz of alcohol you should only have added 1.2 oz of lanolin to get your 10:1 ratio. You are at 6:1 by adding 2 oz. For 2 oz of lanolin, you would need 20 oz of alcohol.
I've been looking for a cheap case lube, this is it, I'm in the part of Canada it's 30-35 for 20 cartridges, I'm starting to load my own, that's for the tutorial, I have to find some now haha, I asked for nipped cream the pharmacy worker blushed and scuttled away haha. when you are done sizing, you don't re tumble, length then load? just finish loading with the lube on the cases?
It didn't take long to figure out that Walmart has the Iso Heat 4/pack real cheap, and you can find decent deals on eBay for liquid Lanolin Oil. One question I have though is, do you have to clean the dies between each time of running a new batch of brass through? I ask because I'm fairly new to reloading and I saw one guy's video where he cleans the dies before every time of using them.
Really good video but one question, is it work with other alchool than isopropyl, like household alcohol (95% alcohol, 5% methanol) ? Very hard to found Isopropyl in my country...
hi, it shouldn't matter what kind of alcohol you use as long as there isn't much (preferably no water) water in it. The alcohol only acts as a thinner to the lanolin to allow it to be atomized and sprayed and will be evaporated before sizing takes place. That is why the cases are left to sit for about 15 minutes before sizing the brass. Pure methanol is the worst choice as it is quite toxic and should not be in contact with bare shin as it will be absorbed into skin. drinking methanol will cause permanent blindness. Good choices for the alcohol are ethanol, or ethyl alcohol this is the type of alcohol that is in liquor so if you could find a 200 proof liquor or close to it (moonshine) this would work. Some pharmacies sell ethyl alcohol as a rubbing alcohol/antiseptic. The best choice is Isopropanol(isopropyl alcohol, IPA). If you cannot find this in a drug store or as fuel additive then check in a paint store as it is often sold as a paint thinner in the same department as paint thinners such as xylol, acetone and mineral spirits. The household alcohol that you refer to probably contains 95%ethyl alcohol and 5% methyl alcohol and it should work fine as the methyl alcohol is in a low concentration just make sure that it is evaporated before handling the brass and wash your hands before you eat. I am not a doctor or chemist and these are my opinions, use at your own risk.
been on this for 5 years now my preferred mix 24 ounces Heet to 2 ounces lanolin does pistol as well as rifle KNOCK ON WOOD..Not a single stuck case YET I am not saying it will never happen I have seen the horror behind it and hope I continue to avoid it.
Leave your bottle of lanolin in the reloading room. Even if the lanolin isn't contaminated by lead, then there's probably lead dust coating the bottle. You don't want your baby ingesting any of that lead.
You can use parafin aka. mineral oil too. No colour, less money,no smell of sheep sweat! Ps:the last one was a joke for those who are getting triggered. Check out BigMike's video for more info. The idea isn't my.
I am new to this reloading world. Do I have to pre-lube 9mm brass and round nose bullets? I am using the Hornady LnL press with Hornady dies. I have seen no vids on hand gun pre-lube only rifle
One question as I have never used an aerosol type: Does this also work inside the case neck, or does that require another process like silicon powder .
I covered how I lube the insides of the necks in the video. Getting 1/3 to 1/2 usually does it as it carries over. I keep a neck brush costed in lanolin on the bench to lube an occasional case if things get balky.
Yep. Its rare anymore that I go driving miles through city traffic looking for a unicorn. All the unicorns are on Ebay or Amazon, or somewhere on the net.
I always find bald guys scary. I don't mean scary as in ghost scary, I mean scary as in tough scary. This man looks like a tough scary dude. Thanks for the great video.....Canada.
+Darrell Baxter I've had a half gallon of it on the shelf for over a year (I reload a lot for competition shooting) and it still works brilliantly about 4 ounces at a time. I don't know if it has a lifetime so to speak.
+Darrell Baxter Nope. If left in an open container, the ISO will eventually flash off, but in a spray bottle or something pretty closed off, and kept at room temperature and not really hot, i have noticed no significant evaporation.
Howdy Fire Mountain Outdoors…Sizing with the Lee sizer just got fast…please watch this short clip we put on You Tube in order for Lee to look at it and possibly modify their sizing approach. ua-cam.com/video/4iHUDbC9hQk/v-deo.html If you agree please contact my pard, Thom Finks as it is on his channel…I don't have one as yet. Thank You…charlie
+lky056 It takes a little bit of digging. Here's a link to the MSDS. Scroll down to section 2, where it shows that the ingredients are 99% Isopropanol and 1% 'Proprietary Additive" www.aoc.nrao.edu/engineering/ElChemInventory/Merged%20Files%20BC/Iso-Heet%20anti-freeze.pdf
+Jaeden Carpenter I think I did.say that. Some people will find that ratio, either 2/10 or 2/12 too thick and that it leaves too much residue for their tastes. Some are using as thin a ratio as 1/12 with good results. The beauty is that you can vary the mix to your personal tastes and equipment.
Melt the solid Lanolin first in a warm water bath, then combine. Once mixed with the 99.9% Alcohol it'll stay "semi" liquid, It will separate overtime....Just shake it up to recombine. Some use a small glass marble or a small stainless bearing in the PLASTIC bottle to help agitate, never needed that myself but go for it. Just make sure it's "pure" Lanolin, no Glycerine or other additives in it. Try a health food store. BTW, be careful where you use this mix, It's highly flammable. No open heat sources, smoking or arcing electronics nearby while using it. 99.9% is fairly easy to find in Canada (in Southern Ontario at least), not sure about the USA. Try Rexall, some of the larger Shopper Drug Marts (I'm looking at a bottle of their 99.0% "Life" brand right now, BTW, the loss of that .9% won't make any difference to you), I've also found 99.9% at Home Hardware stores, Home Depot and Canadian Tires stores up here..
I stepped away for a moment. I come back to hear.... Good for Nipples. Women are using it to feed their babies. So it's good for babies lips too. What??LMAO!!. Being a Grandpa of course I'm sending this to my son :D. Thanks for the video :)
HELL TO GET OFF... RCBS case is water soluble and rinses right off. no mess.. I just pour a bit of it on a rag and throw it in the rotary tumbler with the brass and 10 mins later they all have a nice even coat and no sticky mess
Found out the hard way. I use to use Dillons lube and had to tumble the cases again afterwards to get the shit off. It would coat the walnut media destroying the polish. When I went to using stainless steel media to tumble the lube would not come off and the cases would come out with a sticky black residue that only a powerful solvent would remove. Alcohol worked but it was expensive. RCBS Lube 2 is the shit!! I bought it by the gallon for 166 bucks from Midway. That is like a lifetime supply of it seeing how you use so but maybe half an ounce for 300 .308 shells.
I've used the Hornady One Shot aerosol to size thousands of .223/5.56mm cases. I think the problem is that the instructions say to use a light coat. Perhaps their idea of a light coat is much more generous than mine. You need to make sure you get enough on the cases to get them WET or they will stick in the die.
Some guys go as lean as 12:1. Somewhere in there is the perfect ratio for each individual.

Just mixed this up and sized some30-30 cases. Worked better than any other lube I've ever used. I'm a believer! :-)
I tried the red sheet with a new tube of the lee case lube.. shake well and it works fantastic... just as good as any store bought spray case lube
STP works great for case lube. No matter what is used as case lube, it must be completely removed to keep breech pressures normal.
Great vid. Been using this recipe a while now with 1oz of lanolin to 12oz of Iso-Heet and love it. Thanks for spreading the word.
Great feedback, Wahuuka1! Thanks for watching and taking the time to provide feedback to the rest of the clan!
Great video with good explanation on what the ingredients are
I ran out of case lube one day and bought some STP motor oil treatment! It too works good as a case lube and you can get it at any automotive store or Wal-Mart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lanolin is all natural, safe to use. If you spill some on hands, you have lanolin disinfecting hand lotion.
Can you say that on motor oil treatment?
Just make sure you tumble your cases clean soon after sizing with lanolin. If you don't, you'll be sorry! That lanolin will gum up on the cases and it makes it a lot harder to get it off.
Some folks have switched to HEET and castor oil, or HEET and mineral oil.
Thank you so much for this. I had been searching for best case lube without spending too much money when I just happened upon your most excellent video. Great stuff!
I really like this idea of making my own lube. I use a pad now but spray on would be a lot nicer to use. Will make my own from now on.
Haha. Followed your Amazon link to the liquid lanolin. Frequently bought together with Swan Isopropyl Alcohol, 99 percent, Pint.
Many thanks for the information........I have used everything from Lee lube to STP......all messy to deal with....this looks to be the real deal........
Sir, not only was this video informative, it was pretty funny! Thank you, I think I'm gonna try this.
Pure USP Lanolin works too, and I just so happen to be selling it for $7 per pound plus shipping.
Just started reloading, thank you for the info
Very helpful for a novice reloader! Thanks.
Great Vid thank you I'm on the hunt for Lanolin now
I normally stock isopropyl 91% as a general purpose cleaner in my shop works great, cheap and I can get my wife to buy it at Walmart on the weekly shopping trip I will check the Red Heet. I have the lanolin in stock but it is impossible to get locally. Thanks
Nice. Thanks for sharing. I will gather the supplies to start making my own.
Great job explaining the content and giving interesting facts about lubricates
Great video with the best explanation I've seen at UA-cam. Thanks a lot!
Brilliant thank you from a UK shooter.
This is really amazing, thanks! I love finding these ways to save a few pieces of eight using DIY products. And the fringe benefit: Whenever my girlfriend bounces into the reloading room, I can grease her up as well. A win-win! :-)
The Dillon Case Lube is excellent. I'll try this when I run out.
I *think* the Dillon Case Lube IS this exact same stuff.
This is awesome right now seeing that I can't find alcohol anyplace because of the virus. Thanks.
Such a great mix-up. Thanks, new reloader., Don.
99% Isopropyl alcohol is available from ACE Hardware by the gallon and they have chemical resistant sprayers.
Ive used the same thing of Kiwi brand mink oil since 2011 -- its just about halfway done.
Heet also contains other ingredients that may not be good for brass or your health!
Just use 91% iso alcohol from the store..
FMO is AWESOME always different and great videos.

Great video, bud. I don't reload, right now, but I'd like to get into it! I'll keep this video in mind, when I start!
+redneckoutdoors14 I use penetrating oil such as WD40, CRC, Liquid Wrench, PB Blaster etc. It works great for me.
+redneckoutdoors14 ; Oops, obviously my reply was to the wrong person, I meant to reply to the person below.
Lol no problems man
Lol no problems man

I was surprised it takes so long to dry. Have you tried this when using loading blocks?
I use armor all for my case lube been using it for 30 years i have to make some of that lube as a back up if i run out
hey great one I will try this tomorrow, thanks
Mark said, "nipples". He almost couldn't keep a straight face, you could see the laugh muscles ever so slightly twitchin'.... LOL
Heat the lanolin bottle again and push it on a flat surface to make it flat again.
make sure its LIQUID LANOLIN!! I bought the paste and thought "its all the same" well unless you want to have to heat the mixture every time you do resizing, go liquid & save yourself the headache.
Very well done !
"It's like making pancakes. Even I can do that." Yep, a brother from another mother. Udder Bag Balm = lanolin.
I would love to set off a primer right when he was going to pour it.
Thanks again.

I did not know the Big Show was a reloaded. Just joking keep up the good work.
thanks for a clear explantion

It will not hurt to clean them
Really good video but one question, is it work with other alchool than isopropyl, like household alcohol (95% alcohol, 5% methanol) ? Very hard to found Isopropyl in my country...
I couldn't say for certain. IPA is commonly available here.
Hi, oki, thanks for your answer. I'll try to get IPA or try with other alcohol and saw the result ;)
hi, it shouldn't matter what kind of alcohol you use as long as there isn't much (preferably no water) water in it. The alcohol only acts as a thinner to the lanolin to allow it to be atomized and sprayed and will be evaporated before sizing takes place. That is why the cases are left to sit for about 15 minutes before sizing the brass. Oki, thank ;) I found Isopropyl on amazon.de ;)
no problem. glad to hear it brother.
How did you do your measurement as 10:1. I've seen people do 4 inches then .4. Is that .4 of an inch. Not to good with measurements like that
Now my question is if you get that stuff in the case will that ruin the powder or you dry the inside then load the powder thanks
ocean374 i always run my cases in the wet tumbler with stainless steel media after resizing and trimming/prep
David Rayman ok great thanks
been on this for 5 years now my preferred mix 24 ounces Heet to 2 ounces lanolin does pistol as well as rifle KNOCK ON WOOD..Not a single stuck case YET I am not saying it will never happen I have seen the horror behind it and hope I continue to avoid it.
Great video. thanks
Do casings need to be cleaned/tumbled again after sizing?
Awosome video.. thanks
Leave your bottle of lanolin in the reloading room. Even if the lanolin isn't contaminated by lead, then there's probably lead dust coating the bottle. You don't want your baby ingesting any of that lead.
this is your father behind you😊😂😂😂
Thank you.
So so you have to clean it off after resizing ?
You can use parafin aka. mineral oil too. No colour, less money,no smell of sheep sweat!
Ps:the last one was a joke for those who are getting triggered.
Check out BigMike's video for more info. The idea isn't my.
Yep. You convinced me it's safe. LOL
I am new to this reloading world. Do I have to pre-lube 9mm brass and round nose bullets? I am using the Hornady LnL press with Hornady dies. I have seen no vids on hand gun pre-lube only rifle
No lube needed with straight walled cases and carbide dies. If they're not carbide, you'll need lube.
exactly, invest in carbide dies, well worth it!
If I could give you a few more Thumbs Ups on this video, I would.
Thanks for watching! We hope you subscribed!
Thank you
I saw this but that guy said liquid lanolin not oil right?
PS: Great advice/tip!
Found this right after buying more One Shot.
great idea!!
Great Video. Who is the maker of the Lanolin and can you find it on Amazon ?
Also the 4-pak Iso-Heet
Thanks
Link to lanolin is in the video description box above. IsoHeet at Walmart or Napa. Thanks for watching!
You can also get 99% alchohol on amazon as well pretty cheap. I just ordered the lanolin and alcohol and spray bottles for 20dollars total.
yeah just go online me and the wife spent two hours checking every fing store for it.
Yep. Its rare anymore that I go driving miles through city traffic looking for a unicorn. All the unicorns are on Ebay or Amazon, or somewhere on the net.
Hey, there is this new thing call ed the Internet, maybe try that.
I always find bald guys scary. I don't mean scary as in ghost scary, I mean scary as in tough scary. This man looks like a tough scary dude. Thanks for the great video.....Canada.

Hello what is the shelf life of the mixture. will the ISO flash off inside the jug.
+Darrell Baxter I've had a half gallon of it on the shelf for over a year (I reload a lot for competition shooting) and it still works brilliantly about 4 ounces at a time. I don't know if it has a lifetime so to speak.
+Darrell Baxter Nope. If left in an open container, the ISO will eventually flash off, but in a spray bottle or something pretty closed off, and kept at room temperature and not really hot, i have noticed no significant evaporation.
as many vedios of this thats been made, every body ought to know about this lol
Funny and educational
Joel Dalangin Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching.
does the lanolin need to be cleaned off prior to loading with powder
Shaun Tucker Yes, stick em back in the tumbler to clean.
Howdy Fire Mountain Outdoors…Sizing with the Lee sizer just got fast…please watch this short clip we put on You Tube in order for Lee to look at it and possibly modify their sizing approach.

I got Lanolin oil from eBay.
Where do you buy that brand and quantity of liquid lanolin?
Robert Christino Amazon eBay or your local drugstore.
Could not find where it said on the bottle that it was 99% alcohol. I bought the same stuff the Iso heet in the red bottle.
+lky056 It takes a little bit of digging. Here's a link to the MSDS. Scroll down to section 2, where it shows that the ingredients are 99% Isopropanol and 1% 'Proprietary Additive"
www.aoc.nrao.edu/engineering/ElChemInventory/Merged%20Files%20BC/Iso-Heet%20anti-freeze.pdf
Question. can I use any isopropyl 99% and have this still work out with the lanolin?
Yes.
Fire Mountain Outdoors I noticed you said 2:10 ratio but you put in 12oz of isopropyl and 2oz of lanolin, that would be 2:12 ratio right?
+Jaeden Carpenter I think I did.say that. Some people will find that ratio, either 2/10 or 2/12 too thick and that it leaves too much residue for their tastes. Some are using as thin a ratio as 1/12 with good results. The beauty is that you can vary the mix to your personal tastes and equipment.
do you have to remove this lube before you finish reloading
No.
Balony, I've never stuck a case with one shot.
does it matter ,liquid or solid lanolin
I've only used the liquid lanolin, so I can't say for sure.
You can get 100% IPA on ebay.
Can you use this instead of iso heet? ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61I2R8Tot%2BL._SL1260_.jpg
+darrin russell yes, but buy the iso. much less expensive and the same stuff essentially
I stepped away for a moment. I come back to hear.... Good for Nipples. Women are using it to feed their babies. So it's good for babies lips too. What??LMAO!!. Being a Grandpa of course I'm sending this to my son :D.
Thanks for the video :)
I hate paying retail, so I'll take a price hack whenever I can get one.
No more cracked nipples for me. Thank you sir.
Lanolin sucks. I use RCBS case lube cut with HEET now.
Any reason why it sucks?
HELL TO GET OFF... RCBS case is water soluble and rinses right off. no mess.. I just pour a bit of it on a rag and throw it in the rotary tumbler with the brass and 10 mins later they all have a nice even coat and no sticky mess
Exactly
It's very hard to get off the case. It's like an adhesive.
Most say 1 to 10 ratio
I use cheap vodka.
Well if it's good enough for women's nipples then it's good enough for my casings!!
hornady one shot is the worst case lube i have ever used. damaged one die and gave up removing a case on another. just dont buy it
+Stephen Hart Its in its name ... "One shot".
You give it one shot, and never buy it again :)
LOL that's my experience!
Where the FREAK are you finding powder?
Deep back stock.
Wish I had the same.
