I got to meet one at South Point in Las Vegas and let me just say what you said is so true. So many people where their to see him but they entire time the back foot was up and bottom lip was flopping.
It was in the early 70’s when I got to visit the Clydesdales at their temporary stable when they came to Gainesville. I doubt anything like that could happen now, but we were just waved in. What wonderful horses! They loved being adored and petted, and were they huge! I even have the pictures still somewhere. What a treat it was. ❤️❤️❤️
How could you not love these beauties, I've been next to them in person at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, their big but their so sweet and so incredibly gentle.
First time I saw these beautiful horses was in St Louis. Their stalls were beautiful and so clean. It was circular with a massive crystal chandelier in the center. I have also seen them in Williamsburg VA at Bush Gardens.
i Have a beautiful snow white 17hh Clydesdale x tb with the 4 white stockings and the large blaze (albeit hidden until he has a bath :D) and i just have to say they are the nicest, kindest and easiest breed to work with, so respectful. A very diverse breed with a great brain on them. My guy is always waiting at the gate for attention and genuinely loves people and to work and please. would definitely like to hear from other people about their clydies too :D i've completely fallen for the breed. and a lot of people judge them as 'just carriage horses' but they have so much diversity to them
All horses look more healthier with their long tails which are needed to swat flies and other bugs away. Can someone please explain why docking is good? Have yet to see/hear a feasible one!
Elizabeth Czepiel the tail isn't docked in most cases. The hair is cut. That is how long the tail really is. I have horses, the tail bone is not as long as the hair you see. When you see a horse crap, you will see where the horse lifts the tail. The high point is the end of the tailbone.
Don't you know anything about horses? They don't have a long tail, the actual tail is what you see. It's just all trimmed up, which is what you see with a lot of draft horses.
Yeah this one horse at my barn got her tail docked but the people doing it messed up and basically paralyzed her tail, so now she can't move it. Also, the probably just cut it... That's what it looks like to me!
That's not the point, the point is horses need their tails to swat flies and bugs away, as well as use it as a means of communication. So even just cutting the hair is wrong.
Do they not have flies in Missouri? Do they not know why horses have tails, not just swatting flies of themselves and each other, they also use them in communication.
I hate the way they dock these horses' tails. They look better with long tails. What's wrong with putting their tails in a Scotch knot? That way their tails could stay long.
All they have to do is braid and wrap the tails to keep them out of the way. They want a certain look, to make them look muscular and chunky. That's all there is to it.
Sue Hamblin Think back when these were working horses and people didn't want to take the time to put their tails up. Now they follow the original standard.
and they said they kno where they are and how they are doing. you don't spend 5gs on a horse then discard it. they use them to pull there carts n wagons for show
I got to see some Budweiser Clydesdales when I visited a place called Grant's Farm in St. Louis earlier this year, and the fact that I was looking at (and within a few-foot radius) of the famous horses made me extremely giddy! They're so beautiful!
These are such beautiful horses, but it is DISGUSTING that they dock their tails. Shame on Budweiser for this stupid, cruel practice. Anyone who hacks off healthy bone and tissue for a stupid stupid stupid cosmetic reason is insane and a complete sadist. NO...you do not need to mutilate their tails just because they are pulling a wagon...that is a lie. The inconsistent application of the practice implies that these horses can be managed adequately without the need to remove the tail. Simple and practical alternatives, such as plaiting or bandaging the tail, are available if necessary. The AAEP policy states, in part, that: "The American Association of Equine Practitioners is opposed to the alteration of the tail of the horse for cosmetic or competitive purposes."
+the snowdawg People, like myself, continue to work with lawmakers to ban all docking. People who do this are cowards...they know how much pain they inflict, but don't care. The same is true for horses and dogs. I have ZERO respect for these idiots who continue to do this. Have you wondered why 14 states in the US and 11 countries have banned it? Ever given that any thought...or, are you not capable of doing something like that.
+Briar Lee Mitchell I was just about to comment the same thing. It is cruel and stupid, these people don't realise that the horse need their tails to swat away flies and stuff. They say that they take good care of the horses, and that they, care about the horses well being, but it doesn't seem they care about the horses being comfortable.
+Jenna Arendse Very true Jenna. I am in complete agreement with you...you can read some of the research I have done on my petition to Budweiser...and, if you agree....please sign and pass it along. :) www.change.org/p/carlos-brito-kees-storm-anheuser-busch-budweiser-beer-i-want-budweiser-to-stop-mutilating-their-horses
Miss AinsKz You should never have to resort to docking. If you do, sorry to say, you're an idiot. You can cut them (without cutting the bone), plait them, bandage them, tie it up etc. You should never have to cut off the bone, it causes so much pain and is useless.
Don't you know anything about horses? They don't have a long tail, the actual tail is what you see. It's just all trimmed up, which is what you see with a lot of draft horses. There is no cutting of actual bone or flesh.
I saw a handler whip one of the Clydesdales in his stall because the horse was pawing impatiently as they were being fed. The handler didn't realize I was still there because I was the last visitor to leave. I spent a lot of time watching the horses when they were in our area. Overall, I was very impressed with the care they were given, but this particular human was impatient and nasty.
Sue Hamblin the horse was probably striking which is a really bad habit in horses. they should discipline him but if they were actually beating the horse bad that's horrible :((
No, the horse was not striking. I've spent a lot of time with horses. He was by himself, in his little stall, in the big tent, and he started to paw the floor because the horses were being fed. It wasn't that big of a deal. He wasn't creating a big ruckus. The handler came into the stall, grabbed the horse by his halter, and then hit him across the neck and chest about six times with what looked like a scraper that they use to get excess water off of the horses after a bath. The big horse was trying desperately to get out of his way. This was a nasty man who has probably been working too long at this job and needs to retire. He needs to stay away from horses, or any animal for that matter.
Josh Gonzalrz ...They're amazing. It's been a dream of mine since I was little, like 40 years ago, to see one in person. They evoke so much emotion from me. Curious though....isn't there a grey horse that's bigger, taller I mean, but still bulky like these guys? Not sure if it's a percheron or not. I don't know my breeds.
I would love to spend the day on a ranch where those beauties are raised and just see what their day entails. I have always loved horses since I was a little girl. I suffer from depression and just being around one of those beautiful giant's would be a dream come true.
This is the smartest comment section I've ever read. I don't agree with them docking their tails, and loving a horse just because of its "beauty" horses are one of the best creatures we have on this planet and they deserve the chance to just be horses :)
Absolutely amazingly beautiful for sure, but...33 babies "this year alone:? 1:00 The ranch is home to around only 70 Clydesdales. In Johns time there, he says he has brought 400 to 500 of these babies into the world,2:00 That's over 35 years. Looking for males that match the Budweiser standard, as closely as possible. What do they do with all those foals who are colored wrong? Who don't have the perfect Budweiser disposition? I am purely wondering, considering there are so many displaced animals in America. So who's eating...I mean taking care of their "rejects"? Cute Story.
femm There are other places for Clydesdales to go if they don't match the hitch colors. Many people still work them as draft teams, they're used as cross stock to breed large riding horses. They're rare and pricey...not really in danger of becoming Alpo.
shammy dammy "Horse Slaughter USA" Google it..or youtube it...I was not only referring to dog food.. "U.S. horses account for 87 percent of the horses slaughtered in Mexico for export to the EU". Also "rare and pricey" ...hmm so many examples..over breeding makes nothing rare and pricey..that is an illusion.."hey I got a pure bred dog..cost me alot"...guess what, anyone can breed them...and they do...and those "pricey" animals end up in the trash, slaughtered or hopefully rescues, just like any mutts. Me knowing this, is what made me question Budweisers stance on their "rejects". We should all question powerful companies that use animals, in any way.
I see that you're bound and determined to hold onto your particular fanaticism no matter what, which means it's not worth trying to have a discussion with you. Purebred Clydes are not overbred...just the opposite (with an estimated worldwide population of 5,000...its highest in decades). But you went from a specific to a broad to try to air your lecture (and assume that I am not already quite up to date on the status of horse slaughter in this country...which is a falsehood, btw) So, yeah...it was a nice attempt at a real discussion until the soapbox was dragged out. (oh, and I've muted you...so, yeah)
shammy dammy Didn't realize I was being fanatical. I was only elaborating on why I was asking about these horses. Good to know they don't end up on any ones meal list. That sentence, "We should all question powerful companies that use animals, in any way." is not questioning whether or not they should use animals, only saying big companies should be able to easily answer peoples questions about the welfare of their animals. Also didn't realize my response sounded like I hate all breeders...I don't. Clydesdales really are magnificent animals. It's nice to see them around. Nuff said on this, I'd say. Thanks for the replies all.
Wow; I grew up within about 2 hours from Booneville, MO, and had NO idea about this lovely Clydesdale ranch! But I did get to see the horses & wagon in a parade in Lindsborg, KY for their Bethany College Homecoming, and MAN! You could literally feel the ground shaking from gait of these beautiful, gentle giants from a few blocks away!! They were breathtaking! Looking back, I should've gone into animal care: I think I would've been happier doing something I love. :-)
+cheeky cheeky yep and at 3 mins i noticed a barely 48 hour old baby with a clip jesus i bet that was stressful for baby and mum give them peace and bonding time
+angiebeanful It just makes me sick. Braid it up in a polo bang and its completely out of the way. Pure LAZINESS is why people do this. I betcha if I "docked" a few inches off of the ear of the guy that did this...or even from somplace else...he would think differently about it. Not to be a psycho but am thinking pragmatically about it.
yep i fully agree i have 2 draft horses with beautiful long thick tails just no need for it at all they need their tails to swish flies away from their bottoms legs and stomach and other parts ect if a male horse so i see this as pure cruelty ive seen some beautifully braided clydesdales this annoys me beyond belief :'(
That’s where the 2 Clydesdales at my barn came from. Mitch and Pops. And I think that they pulled the wagon cause of their markings. Mitch is my buddy and Pops is a goofball lol. I don’t like the horses tails docked though. Mitch’s and Pops’ are longer but still kinda short
A dadgum horse has got a tail for a reason. GOD equipped em with a tail for that reason. But like always, people have to alter HIS plans. It ain’t got nothin to do with harness why their tails are docked. It’s an old trick traders used to make their hind quarters look more massive. Just like posing them with their front legs standing on higher ground than their hind legs to make their shoulders look more powerful. And they used to trim their manes short enough to stand up, that made their necks look bigger. The docked tails caught on while the other two didn’t. My Pappaw, born in 1860, was a horse trader, and Dad, born in 1909, told me some of the tricks of the trade. It’s really cosmetic mutilation, no matter what excuse is used.
BBBBBBBAAAAAABBBBBIIIIIIIEEEEEESSSSSsS!!!!!!!!!!!! I miss having babies. I love watching them first walk. Baszyl should've been a Budweiser pony but instead he spends his time with my mare that has more connection to Budweiser then my Clyde.
They most certainly don’t know where all their Clydesdales are. One was rescued from a slaughterhouse in PA a few years ago. And where are all those foals that don’t make the grade??
@Jake D If you think horse slaughter is only a Chinese thing, you're ignorant. We don't have slaughter houses for horses in the US anymore, but horses in auction houses can still be bought for slaughter and get sent to over the boarder to Mexico or Canada where they can be killed.
Armored Wings okay but is it really any different than killing a cow or a pig? I’m not happy it happens, but to pretend that Horses being killed is atrocious while cows being killed is Completely Fine™ is just hypocrisy that I wont subscribe to.
@@jadecoolness101 Honestly, I feel the same way. Cows are so smart and social, but most people dont bat an eyelid at eating them. Pigs are literally smarter than most other animals and share a huge amount of our dna (kind of sick to eat them). But because horses are beautiful and majestic and great pets there is suddenly a difference??? Stupid.
gentlechaos TO BE FAIR I do eat Pork and Chicken and Beef, but I’m not going to sit here and be OFFENDED when horses, cats, or dogs are killed for their meat. I’ve been raised to see them as pets, so *I* wouldn’t eat their meat but. Hey. That’s life? XD
@@jadecoolness101 Exactly! People are allowed to choose whatever they eat or don't eat but it's stupid to eat pork and call it monstrous to slaughter horses.
the draft horses work in harness and the docked tails are a serious safety measure. As far as the brood mares, the colts and fillies chew on their mom’s tails , that goes for all horse breeds. This breed is expensive to buy and expensive to feed and maintain and is not for folks who do not have the means to give them proper care which includes fly repellant as needed.
What happened to the ones I don’t make the cut? Do get sold to a rancher? or do they slaughtered them? I know they slaughter the race horses that don’t win in the Kentucky derby. Thank goodness there’s a rescue horse sanctuary that rescue some them.
Wow. Those complaining about these horses needing their tails to swat flies..really? These horses live in a/c and heated barns with fly spray continually applied and stalls that are immaculately clean. The only pain felt when the bands are applied are the initial sting of the band when it's put on, then the tail goes numb as circulation is cut off. Then the tail dies and falls off...just like the banding of calves. No pain just a sting and then it's gone. Is it necessary? Yes in a way it is for safety reasons. Sure the tails could be braided etc etc. but what if the braid slips out? And lines get stuck or the tail gets stuck in the lines? What are the odds of that happening slim you say..but still a chance and when you have a team of huge horses weighing thousands of pounds in a crowd situation you have to prepare for the worse and pray for the best. I don't care how well trained a horse is there could always be an accident. A noise, a flash, something blowing in the breeze that could set them off. And then you have lots of innocent people hurt or killed along with the horses injured or killed. So why take a chance? If these horses were just plow horses and thrown in a field to suffer with the flies etc I would agree but these horses don't have to worry about that. They receive the top care. These horses live better and get better feed and healthcare then a lot of people do.
Sherry Brock Horses don't use their tails only for swatting flies. Their tails are also a form of communication for them. I'm sure if they could talk and choose whether or not to get their tails cut off, they'd choose not to. It wouldn't hurt anything to just keep their tails, all you have to do is braid them neatly and tight so they should stay in and keep the tail out of the way. I completely respect your opinion it's just I would rather keep the horses tails. It looks prettier also to have a long, flowing tail. Have a great day!
Sherry Brock try asking an amputee if he/she still has phantom pains from their amputated limb. Also: if only the geldings are used, why dock fillies? And as for them living in A/C barns with bugspray: I'm seeing a lot of fields, I'm seeing mares and foals enjoying the great outdoors. Horses need to be turned out every day (within the EU we have laws to that effect), in order to lead more natural lives - it helps keeping them healthy and sane.
You’re so idiotic it’s giving me a migraine through the screen. They’re literally just trimming the hair, no pain. Do your research before humiliating yourself like this
It's great that these beautiful horses are so well taken care of. 😍 I know that so many aren't - they're just used to make a dollar, and it's so sad. Take care of your horses and they'll take care of you! Don't neglect them! 😢
Daisy Stalls no they go up for sale and people will buy them to make them great horses. I used to ride one that didn't make the cut for the Budweiser team
The only ignorant person here is you. They make sure they get new homes where they will be taken care of. Nobody said they kept them for their entire lifespan, so that's just you making assumptions for no reason. So maybe you're the one with blinders.
They dock their tails, send foals who aren’t meeting the standards to slaughter, force them into the cruel practice of pulling wagons just for unnecessary attention, and send retired horses to slaughter. That’s not okay.
I have been around the horse industry my whole life. I love a beautiful tail as much as anyone but I do understand tail docking in the draft industry. I have seen some horrible wrecks with drafters were braids or tails for whatever reason get hung up in rings or harnesses. Docking is done in the best interest of the working horse for the safety of the horse and the people involved. It is a matter of choose. But it is much safer
I see a lot of tail docking complaints, which I agree with. The manes seem trimmed also. But did no one notice , or even wonder, that 48 hour old baby horse, WHY were it's legs SHAVED? The upper legs were shaved. What purpose does that serve? It surely was not born that way. No wonder it was already avoiding the humans. 0:55
Equestrians do shave their horses so they keep cool during winter. That sounds weird, I know, but some breeds, like Clydesdales, get really really fluffy during winter and can sweat, which makes them wet, and the winter chill makes them freeze when they're wet. That can make for a very sick horse. I'm guessing they shaved the foal so it wouldn't overheat in their climate. They make blankets for horses if they absolutely need them to stay warm on certain days. I almost thought that they shaved the baby for an IV from a vet, but seeing what they did looks more similar to a show clip which is for the purpose I mentioned. Also, foals always avoid humans at first. They aren't used to anything yet so they tend to be skiddish.
irrelevent. one is done for cleanliness, one for cosmetic purposes. and you can choose NOT to circumcise, as well, until the child is old enough to decide for himself!!!
@@OMGDONTCALLMEFAT to be fair in the 70s it was believed to be more hygienic. Virtually every man of my generation was circumcised at birth for that reason. I'm not sure when it stopped being common practice but my own two sons born in the aughts were not circumcised.
@@Devynnkyla8 I don't know anything about docking horse's tails, are they really not cutting through flesh/bone with clydesdales? I can't find any info on it on google.
@@OMGDONTCALLMEFAT yes they are cutting through the flesh. Horses have on average eighteen bones in their vertebrae, some have 25, the Arabians have around 15. To get a horses tail that short, it must be surgically removed under anesthesia. Or at least it's supposed to be.
+Rebbekkah Holt They are either sold or used for breeding stock. The Clydesdales that pull the wagons are all geldings, so they don't breed. But the mares are kept back for breeding, and they have a selection of stallions that they cross with their mares.
Don't you know anything about horses? They don't have a long tail, the actual tail is what you see. It's just all trimmed up, which is what you see with a lot of draft horses. There is no cutting of actual bone or flesh.
+Loki Laufeyson They cut the hair on the tail. They do that because a long tail in harness is very dangerous for a horse. And plaiting or bandaging it is not always sufficient to prevent tangling. The horse's tail is not so long that any flesh and bone need be cut, but the hair on the tail does need to be kept short.
The actually amputate the tail. Just look at the photos...they amputate the bones, muscles and tissue and leave the horse with a useless, tiny stub. www.change.org/p/carlos-brito-kees-storm-anheuser-busch-budweiser-beer-i-want-budweiser-to-stop-mutilating-their-horses
You are not...yes, he was clipped...this poor baby is going to lose his tail too. Terrible people...this is THE most stupid, useless things to do to a horse...and when they get older...it is just misery for them. Terrible people!
Ad Astra I am sorry you did not read the information I posted...this does hurt them as adults, and, is currently banned in 14 states, 5 provinces (Canada) and 11 countries. Here...take some time now...read the facts: Such “inflicting [of] needless pain” “is a disgrace to any person who lays claim to the possession of humane feelings” (“Mutilating”). So why remove such an important and sensitive piece of the horse’s anatomy? Docking of horses’ tails was originally performed for safety reasons when horses were harnessed for activities such as hauling, logging or pulling carriages (Tozzini, 2003). The rationale given for this was to prevent possible difficulties in controlling a horse whose tail had tangled in the harness or reins (Tozzini, 2003; Lefebvre et al, 2007). This justification is still used today. However, not all draught horses are docked and the inconsistent application of the practice implies that these horses can be managed adequately without the need to remove the tail. Simple and practical alternatives, such as plaiting or bandaging the tail, are available if necessary. LAWS - There are currently 14 states that regulate tail docking in some form. Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, and Washington prohibit the docking of a horse’s tail. Connecticut, Michigan and South Carolina prohibit tail docking of a horse unless it is determined to be medically necessary by a licensed veterinarian. In New Hampshire, permission must be granted by the state veterinarian before a licensed veterinarian may perform a tail docking procedure on a horse. Illinois prohibits the tail docking of a horse unless it is proven to be a benefit to the horse and California prohibits the docking of horses’ and cows’ tails except in emergency situations. Docking is banned in Austria, Belgium, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Portugal, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom. You can also add parts of Australia and New Zealand. These countries and states recognized the cruel nature of this procedure and BANNED IT! The American Association of Equine Practitioners policy states, in part, that: "The American Association of Equine Practitioners is opposed to the alteration of the tail of the horse for cosmetic or competitive purposes." Docking removes the majority of the tail vertebrae, leaving just a short length and usually done to young foals (Stafford and Mellor, 2010). Tail docking is defined in the Animal Welfare (Painful Husbandry Procedures) Code of Welfare 2005 as removing “most of the tail of an animal” (NAWAC, 2005) without specifying a method. This implies that any removal of the tail of a horse is, by definition, docking and is therefore a restricted surgical procedure. It is also clearly a painful procedure. Removal of the tail is usually performed when the horse is between two weeks and three months of age (Lefebvre et al, 2007). At this age, foals are able to perceive and respond to both deep cutaneous and superficial stimulation (Dunlop, 1994). While no studies have been carried out examining the epidemiology of the different methods, the acute or chronic pain induced as a result of removing the tail or the potential complications that the horse could experience as a result of using these methods, amputation of the tail has been shown to cause acute pain in other animals (Kent et al, 1998; Stull et al, 2002) and so is very likely to also cause acute pain in the horse. - NZVA www.change.org/p/carlos-brito-kees-storm-anheuser-busch-budweiser-beer-i-want-budweiser-to-stop-mutilating-their-horses
It very well could be MsVanorak. I do, also, like that Brit style with plaiting the tail and leaving the entire length of it. It makes so much sense, which is probably why it is not done in the US. With regards to the tail getting caught in the harness...Clydesdales are not the only breed that is used in harness a lot. Have you ever seen a Gypsy Vanner? They have enormous full manes and tails...one of their trademarks. They are not docked..nor even braided. Neither are Friesians....again, noted for their very full manes and tails. Standard breds are not docked or braided...and they are incredibly active in harness...no docking...no plaiting. And on and on - Halflingers, Cleveland Bays, Welsh Ponies...the list is quite long...none of them docked or plaited. www.change.org/p/carlos-brito-kees-storm-anheuser-busch-budweiser-beer-i-want-budweiser-to-stop-mutilating-their-horses
Hollies Videos they don’t cut off the bone. The short tail is for safety reasons. If their tail got stuck in the harness there would be a lot of pain to the horse and it’s just safer.
Don't you know anything about horses? They don't have a long tail, the actual tail is what you see. It's just all trimmed up, which is what you see with a lot of draft horses.
Is it really necessary to Dock their tails, after seeing all the harnesses and apparatus I would say yes because it's for their own protection and health if they had to long tails, Their tails would get tangled up in all the hardware and it would be very painful for the horses
sorry Teresa...just saw your question. No...amputating bone and tissue the horse needs and uses is criminal. Take a look at the follow list here...ALL of these horses work in harness as well..NONE of them have their tails hacked off: Friesian, Gypsy Vanner, Fjord, American Shetland, Standardbreds (the most active in harness…nope, not docked!), Missouri Fox Trotting Horse, Canadian Pacer, Trotters, Finn, Cleveland Bay, Gelderland, Holstein, American Saddlebred, Nonius, Orlov Trotter, Fell, Hafflinger and Highland. There are others…however, these horses can be easily researched so you can see they have their full, beautiful tails. Mutilating horses this way is criminal..it is only cosmetic...and, is illegal in 14 US states, 8 Canadian provinces and 11 countries. Why do you think that is?
Left in their natural state they have long tails, just like other breeds. What you are seeing here are docked tails, i.e. tails that have been shortened by surgery, where 1/2-2/3 of the tail vertebrae have been removed.
REBECCA, no. The tail has 18-25 vertebrae in it - they amputate MOST of them to get the docked "look" and then let the hair grow on what remains, then braid that up. It is a medically unncessary amputation.
You know what? chill out. God gave us the intelligence to hook horses up with gear that could have gotten caught up in their tail. God gave us the intelligence to figure out how to modify a working animal to better help and serve in a symbiotic manner.
lively horses sweethearts they are pulling such weight must be work but that's what they were made for purely over time . but docking is a bit much there tails are perfect when they aren't 5 inches long , I love there natural look .
ATTENTION PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE TAILS!!! It’s literally just a haircut! That’s how long the actual tails are, they just trim up the hair to that point. It does absolutely no harm to the horses, and it prevents them from getting caught up in the carriages they pull.
As for the bugs; these horses are the most pampered creatures this side of Beverly Hills. AC barns, grooming, and constant spraying for pests, means that pests don’t come anywhere near these clip clop doggies!
No, they actually AMPUTATE a portion of the tail, removing several of the vertebrae in it. Don't you know how the tail is constructed? There are 18 to 25 bones in the tail and they amputate most of them.
Idiot. They amputate. When there's no need. If there was, every horse that pulls a cart or dray would be docked, and also, those mare and foals were outside, and fly sprays aren't 100% effective.
Desiree2401 This has nothing to do with literal mental retardation. It has to do with lack of knowledge, which isn't the same thing. She's (he's?) smart, she just doesn't know.
I love how everyone is complaining about tail docking when no one comes to think of how 'fixing' aka neutering an animal is literally the exact same thing. They use both, the same methods are applied in most cases, etc. Yet you all have to be dramatic as if theyre bleeding to death or can't live without tails and or it's only negative. Smh.
Madison Shapiro I realize this comment is older, but it really isn’t the same thing. Fixing an animal’s purpose is to prevent more breeding and more animals in shelters/pounds who will be euthanized, as well as to help mood issues and prevent certain cancers. Tail docking doesn’t really have much use except cosmetically.
Madison Shapiro they can’t live happily without a tail and if you think they can go into the woods on a hot summer day with your hands tied around your back and see if your happy with bugs biting you and not being able to do anything about it
I watched a video of one of these beautiful animals left in it's stall «tiny stall" for hour after numb minding hour with nothing to do except eat drink pee and poop, over and over again. No other herd mate in sight, it's disgusting!!!!!

would definitely like to hear from other people about their clydies too :D i've completely fallen for the breed. and a lot of people judge them as 'just carriage horses' but they have so much diversity to them
They're so beautiful!
Thank you Ruth finally someone has said it
Don't you know anything about horses? They don't have a long tail, the actual tail is what you see. It's just all trimmed up, which is what you see with a lot of draft horses.
Yeah this one horse at my barn got her tail docked but the people doing it messed up and basically paralyzed her tail, so now she can't move it. Also, the probably just cut it... That's what it looks like to me!
That's not the point, the point is horses need their tails to swat flies and bugs away, as well as use it as a means of communication. So even just cutting the hair is wrong.
Those horses are truly truly beautiful. I mean it....
Do they not have flies in Missouri? Do they not know why horses have tails, not just swatting flies of themselves and each other, they also use them in communication.
the tails must be trimmed in order for them to not get caught in the wagons and all of the equipment/harnesses used :)
June Este plate them, not dock.
June Este ohh there are flies in Missouri... enough to kill a horse
Paige Sims you could just braid it or do a certain knot that keeps it up
Fly spray ;)
What an amazing depiction of the man and the horses.
Pure Champion an Champion Team Beautiful. Horses always have been tradition ..
I hate the way they dock these horses' tails. They look better with long tails. What's wrong with putting their tails in a Scotch knot? That way their tails could stay long.
They have do it otherwise the tails get caught up in all the rigging equipment and the hair is torn out or it can cause injury tonthe tail itself.
All they have to do is braid and wrap the tails to keep them out of the way. They want a certain look, to make them look muscular and chunky. That's all there is to it.
Sue Hamblin Think back when these were working horses and people didn't want to take the time to put their tails up. Now they follow the original standard.
It's either getting it cut off while you're asleep or getting it RIPPED off...which do you choose?
Freckles Dah Horse my Clydesdale docked my thoroughbreds tail.
Beautiful horses
And what happens to all the other ones who do not meet their standards? The ones who do not have that "traditional colouring"?
cheeseballfreak they just sell them
and they said they kno where they are and how they are doing. you don't spend 5gs on a horse then discard it. they use them to pull there carts n wagons for show
robbie davis back up that statement with proof, please. I highly doubt that you can.
robbie davis stop your bs
ctaylor taylor it’s shown by evidence that they get sold off to slaughter
Looks good on my Rottweilers tho....
+Briar Lee Mitchell IDK B. Lee, I might not be able to think about that idea... I tried to no avail..
The little Clydesdales are so cute.
If he truly loved these horses, he would NOT cut of their tail.
Christina Olsen it's for safety so it doesn't get caught in the harness and make a lot of pain for the bueatys!:)
Miss AinsKz
You should never have to resort to docking.
Christina Olsen they need it cut when pulling carriages.
Ainsley Grace People just aren't smart enough to develop rigging that is "tail proof"
Stupid reason for docking.
I remember seeing my first clydesdale foal in Oregon when i was a little girl. I feel in love with them then and still love them 60 years later. ❤❤
I saw a handler whip one of the Clydesdales in his stall because the horse was pawing impatiently as they were being fed. The handler didn't realize I was still there because I was the last visitor to leave. I spent a lot of time watching the horses when they were in our area. Overall, I was very impressed with the care they were given, but this particular human was impatient and nasty.
maybe the handler needs to be whipped instead. what a creep. don't allow him to be around these beautiful creatures-fire him!
He needs to stay away from horses, or any animal for that matter.
no, reported.
If that happened it should've been reported. That person should've been fired immediately!!!!
Waiting to go to this ranch in Boonville, MO. The CLYDESDALE Horses are so beautifuk
Absolutely amazing and beautiful horses:)
How cute! The baby tried walk just like the parent.
I got meet some at a festival. Yea. They're sweeties.
Lovely video and their commercials are one of a kind. Beautiful horses
Yep, this is my favorite breed of horse. The biggest horse on earth. This is exactly the horse I want.
Josh Gonzalrz Second biggest. Shire horses are generally a bit bigger.
Clydesdales are the best ! Mine is 18.2 he's a gentle giant !!
Clydesdales and shires seem to be around the same height, maybe more on the shire side a tiny bit more tall from hoof to withers.
Sorry, not the biggest. I think it's the Shire that's the biggest.
Love these beautiful specimens. Absolutely gorgeous horses.❤
They're rare and pricey...not really in danger of becoming Alpo.
femm Lawton Stables in Hilton Head Island,South Carolina has one of those "Rejects" his name is Harley and he is doing great!
shammy dammy "Horse Slaughter USA" Google it..or youtube it...I was not only referring to dog food.. "U.S. horses account for 87 percent of the horses slaughtered in Mexico for export to the EU".
(oh, and I've muted you...so, yeah)
shammy dammy
Didn't realize I was being fanatical.
STOP DOCKING THEIR F-ING TAILS!!!!!!!!!
Not to be a psycho but am thinking pragmatically about it.
yep i fully agree i have 2 draft horses with beautiful long thick tails just no need for it at all they need their tails to swish flies away from their bottoms legs and stomach and other parts ect if a male horse so i see this as pure cruelty ive seen some beautifully braided clydesdales this annoys me beyond belief :'(
Agreed. They look better with natural tails.
cheeky cheeky Agreed. They used to do this back in the day.
Little cuties very chatty and so adorable
That’s where the 2 Clydesdales at my barn came from. Mitch and Pops. And I think that they pulled the wagon cause of their markings. Mitch is my buddy and Pops is a goofball lol. I don’t like the horses tails docked though. Mitch’s and Pops’ are longer but still kinda short
Very beautiful horses🐴💕
Look at that, such a beauty. Robust horses are my favorites !
I think I luv him. I can't stop. I'm trying. So hard!
I love horses....especially Clydesdales....they're gorgeous horses.
Why does this make me almost cry?😂
BBBBBBBAAAAAABBBBBIIIIIIIEEEEEESSSSSsS!!!!!!!!!!!! I miss having babies. I love watching them first walk. Baszyl should've been a Budweiser pony but instead he spends his time with my mare that has more connection to Budweiser then my Clyde.
No such thing as a Budweiser pony.
Horses are so fascinating to me
They most certainly don’t know where all their Clydesdales are.
I've met this horse in person, it's even more beautiful in person!😍😍
The tails are part of their beauty even if it took a little more time grooming it would look more natural - so sad 🐎🐎🐎
That's not why the cut the tail; they cut the tail so it doesn't get caught up in the gear and hurt or scare the horse
the draft horses work in harness and the docked tails are a serious safety measure. As far as the brood mares, the colts and fillies chew on their mom’s tails , that goes for all horse breeds. This breed is expensive to buy and expensive to feed and maintain and is not for folks who do not have the means to give them proper care which includes fly repellant as needed.
@@farmwife7944 I guess that makes sense - thanks
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THE CYLDESDALE HORSES. ONE OF THE MOST ELEGANT AND MAGESTIC HORSES THERE ARE!!!
What happened to the ones I don’t make the cut? Do get sold to a rancher? or do they slaughtered them? I know they slaughter the race horses that don’t win in the Kentucky derby. Thank goodness there’s a rescue horse sanctuary that rescue some them.
Not all of them go to slaughter, most get sold to people, but in some cases they do get sent to slaughter is there’s no buyer.
The tails should stay. I do NOT like the removal of the tails. The tails are beautiful. They are a natural part of horses.
It’s for safety
longtailed horses do quite well and this is medically unnecessary amputation of a body part.
Those Clydesdales came to Columbus, Ga.. a few years ago..I have pictures of those gorgeous horses
Sherry Brock I agree
i agree
Sherry Brock YES BEST WAY TO POSSIBLY PUT IT!!!!!!
Horses need to be turned out every day (within the EU we have laws to that effect), in order to lead more natural lives - it helps keeping them healthy and sane.
my very favorite of ALL horses!
I cannot believe that in the Millennium, these people still practice the Barbaric, Cruel, and unhealthy practice of tail docking. SHAMEFUL!!!
You’re so idiotic it’s giving me a migraine through the screen. They’re literally just trimming the hair, no pain. Do your research before humiliating yourself like this
You are the fool, fool. Do your research. Part of the tail itself is surgically removed.
Michaela If you trim the hair off a horse's tail, they will have about a foot and a half of a rat tail. These horses have docked tails.
@@redxchrry7588 Looks like you're the idiotic one here. Maybe you should take your own advice and do your research before humiliating yourself.
I love them. Our friend was given two Clydesdales. After feeding them for a few months, he found out why.
If you keep there feathers keep there tails
Adorable little things!
It's great that these beautiful horses are so well taken care of. 😍 I know that so many aren't - they're just used to make a dollar, and it's so sad. Take care of your horses and they'll take care of you! Don't neglect them! 😢
Gazzy Bishop I bet that the foals that dont look perfect are taken to the slother house.
Daisy Stalls no they go up for sale and people will buy them to make them great horses. I used to ride one that didn't make the cut for the Budweiser team
Lexie You can bet not all get sold.... And yeah... Off to make dog food and glue they go.
“To breed geldings “. Wow science has come a long way !
Awwe..I so wish I lived there..I would volunteer everyday to brush your majestic giants..thanks for all you do..grateful in KY 🐎🙏❤
So beautiful. I want one to love on
I see a lot of tail docking complaints, which I agree with.
I want to know how many people complaining about them dockimg their horses tails have little boys who they had circumcised..
irrelevent. one is done for cleanliness, one for cosmetic purposes. and you can choose NOT to circumcise, as well, until the child is old enough to decide for himself!!!
It's not done for cleanliness. It is done for traditional, religious, or cosmetic purposes. It it no way, shape, or form affects cleanliness.
SO FLUFFY SO ADORABLE

Don't you know anything about horses? They don't have a long tail, the actual tail is what you see. It's just all trimmed up, which is what you see with a lot of draft horses. There is no cutting of actual bone or flesh.
@@rebeccad5803 actually there is. They have a good number of vertebrae in the dock, and the only way for it to be short like it is, is docking.
zanhari1 SORRY I MESSED UP OK?!?! I ride and I’m in pony club I know about horses I messed up to me it looked like to normal size of a dock
I always love seeing the Clydesdale Budweiser commercials
Do they dock their tails or is it in their genetics?
The American Association of Equine Practitioners policy states, in part, that: "The American Association of Equine Practitioners is opposed to the alteration of the tail of the horse for cosmetic or competitive purposes."
Docking removes the majority of the tail vertebrae, leaving just a short length and usually done to young foals (Stafford and Mellor, 2010). - NZVA

I love these horse they are so beatiful!!
Why dock a poor horses tail fora stupid useless cosmetic
It's to prevent the tail hairs from getting caught in the harnesses, it would be extremely painful for the horse otherwise
you can braid them and bandage them. its a stupid and worthless reason.
Its just hair. It grows back anyways and its not like it bothers then
Hollies Videos they don’t cut off the bone.
They are just simply amazing cute
They don't have a long tail, the actual tail is what you see. It's just all trimmed up, which is what you see with a lot of draft horses.
Left in their natural state they have long tails, just like other breeds. What you are seeing here are docked tails, i.e. tails that have been shortened by surgery, where 1/2-2/3 of the tail vertebrae have been removed.
My show driving horse had a tail 9' (nine feet) long. No problem.
REBECCA, no. The tail has 18-25 vertebrae in it - they amputate MOST of them to get the docked "look" and then let the hair grow on what remains, then braid that up. It is a medically unncessary amputation.
The babies, so cute. Baby horses are like little puppies. They follow you around, or at least that is what happened to me. Was so cute!
If God wanted them to be born with docked tails HE would have created them that way❗️🚫🪓🐴
You know what? chill out. God gave us the intelligence to hook horses up with gear that could have gotten caught up in their tail. God gave us the intelligence to figure out how to modify a working animal to better help and serve in a symbiotic manner.
Super schöne Pferde 😍❤💯!
lively horses sweethearts they are pulling such weight must be work but that's what they were made for purely over time . but docking is a bit much there tails are perfect when they aren't 5 inches long , I love there natural look .
I can't stop smiling.❤❤❤
You must don't know anything about horses😊
Desiree2401 This has nothing to do with literal mental retardation. It has to do with lack of knowledge, which isn't the same thing. She's (he's?) smart, she just doesn't know.
Funny I have actually been to that exact same Budweiser thing to tour it and I live in Missouri so that's awesome
That has to be one of the most stupid comparisons I have ever heard.
In reading some of these comments, it becomes very obvious that some of these people have NEVER set foot in a barn in their lives.
Madison Shapiro they can’t live happily without a tail and if you think they can go into the woods on a hot summer day with your hands tied around your back and see if your happy with bugs biting you and not being able to do anything about it
i do believe this has got to be one of the most stupid comments yet
The little ones sound soo cute.
I watched a video of one of these beautiful animals left in it's stall «tiny stall" for hour after numb minding hour with nothing to do except eat drink pee and poop, over and over again. No other herd mate in sight, it's disgusting!!!!!
I love em!!!!!!!!!!!
Such a shame they cut their tails!
It’s for safety
which is a false argument, as long tail horses don't have safety issues.
How can you NOT get attached?
one of GOD's gift to us!!!!
One of evolution's advances to survival.
Drachen Einhorn How is this in anyway survival?? They're just pulling stuff..
They are not created by god so they have evolved to survive.
Evolution is true, there is no way that beautiful animal was made in a short amount of time
Christiaan Baron also you spelled evolution wrong. And to think "GOD" made an intelligent life form.
I love living in Missouri so greeen
Please stop docking their tails. You're messing with perfection.
Best commercials! Always!
No matter how many times, it’s shared....I watch! 💕👍🏻
STOP DOCKING THEIR TAILS!!!!
