I have made several flutes using your tutorials (my latest are a D in eastern white cedar, and A flute in black walnut.. just finished an hour ago). I could not be happier with the hobby I have chosen, and I just wanted to say thank you to you and your family for all of the videos, and for sharing some of your knowledge. I am now going to the basement to find some wrapping paper cause this video is too cool not to try.
I actually have a video making an Ocarina out of a toilet paper tube! I have some other catchy ones as well but none of them will Top what is coming out soon!

G'day Charlie. I have made some beautiful sounding bamboo flutes using the same methods (your methods) you just used from your book. With the sound hole and sound track left without flattening the track area and using a piece of the same bamboo (after working the bamboo piece to shape) as the sound block. Looks and sounds fantastic. I only have one problem, when you choose the paper and cover of your next book, please make them more oil and wax friendly. I have had to cover the pages I use most with laminate to keep them in a readable shape. }:- ) I can and do make a mess all the time. Thank you. Tom
Amazing sound. I've been playing for 30 years but not flutes. All I know about flutes is every other instrument is trying to sound like one (like analog synths etc). Your cardboard flute sounds better than my $100 harmonica.. :)

I have a cardboard tube and I want to make a flute. Been watching this video im a third of the way thru but my 3 year old is demanding attention... am I going to need your book or some equivalent information to determine where to position the holes , considering my tube doesn't have the same dimensions as yours? Also I'm not picky about which key it's in because I'm not a musician, just going to be playing around. E is fine. But it sounded kind of like the size of the flute was determining where the holes went as well? Thanks so much for doing these videos!
I have dabbled in making replica native American pottery. I'm wondering if a flute made of clay would sound good, if at all. I would make it exactly like a wooden flute. Michael
We have made clay flutes. Clay flutes are some of the oldest instruments ever found. They still make them in Mexico and other parts of the world today.

I am a native indian women but i live in the netherlands.. here in the netherlands can you not buy native indian flutes of panflutes. There are no music stores here. Everyone have a onlin store. But i can not buy online. I have not enough money to buy on internet. In the netherlands can you only buy on internet when you have enough money. The banks are scared that i want to loan so i can not get a credit card where i may can shop on internet. Only get money with a special card. You must know that i am so glad that i can make my own flute from cartbord.. thank you.. you have makes my happy! I hope that i can make this flute to.. the sound is lovely. !

Have you ever worked with (wet) Elderberry branches? I'm experimenting but without actually splitting the branch in half, how do I create a smooth bore? It is a bent branch...
I believe we have an old video of me making a flute out of Elderberry but I may not. I will have to go back and check. One of my favorite flutes is elderberry (6-hole I play in some videos) and works easiest when it is green/fresh cut. How to work with it begins with selecting the right piece. It's best to find new shoots which are the diameter you want to make a flute with. There will be shrinkage when it dries. You can then push the center pith out of the wood and even can leave a small bit of it inside for the plug if you like. I have been meaning to make a new video using similar materials to show the simplicity of such a thing. 🙂 I hope that you are doing well my friend.

I'm gonna try recycling some 3 ft rolls from work, if the mouth piece is about 4 inches wide would I have to find a way to slim it down in order to sound good when i blow through?
