I know you are kinda joking but I have actually seen an ICE cars still driving with half an engine (a V8 with one bank of cylinders not firing) which was pretty wild to see! It was definitely not as happy about driving as the Cybertruck seems here though 🤣
@@bear4278 😁Yeah, I was being more dramatic, but I am a believer in the death of ICE. In reality, with ICE and BEV, issues and how they react will depend on the situation. I think the failure in this case with Chris's motor is an obvious systemic defect in early versions of the power train. Likely with the motor controller that's built into it and not the actual electric motor. Electric motors are insanely reliable.
I've had to do similar with an old beater car that lost 2 cyl out of 4 due to a bad coil pack. Not good at all for the Catalytic Converter. but it limped home. This failure is sort of similar to say a 4X4 Truck losing a driveshaft. You can limp that home with only the front, but you do want to take it a little easy. Still, CT even with the first model year production issues all cars have, is a pretty awesome beat. Someday I shall have mine.
Got FSD 12.5.5.3 last night and had two bad situations happen that I've never had it do before: 1) It approached a red left turn arrow (I assumed it was stopping) and was going to take it's turn -- I had to intervene. And there was oncoming traffic. 2) It crossed the center line into oncoming traffic on a rural 55mph road -- I had to take over and almost had a heart attack! So be diligent people and SUPERVISE! Still love FSD and can't wait for further improvements for cybertruck's version. Oh and Chris: Love your videos!
I immediately took mine for a spin after the update and my truck still can’t consistently make left turns. It’ll cut the turn and then try to adjust midway, making me look like a fool who can’t drive. And one time it literally turned into the oncoming traffic‘s lane! As you say, you have to watch it like a hawk. Mostly I don’t use it.
I had my rear drive motor replaced about a month ago. Speeds were reduced to 57 mph for a few days and then down to 25 mph. I was unable to drive it to the Tesla repair center because of this issue. They set a tow truck to transport it to the center. I recommend taking it directly to the repair center as soon as possible if you are having this issue. I have had no problems since the replacement of the rear drive motor was replaced under warranty.
Still accelerates faster than 80% of vehicles on the road. Important point about a time to accelerate hard. 16:00 Performance is safety, as far as comfort--good drivers will do it SMOOTHLY.

To be clear, im assuming you have a dual motor? If so, i believe your rear motor is a PM (Permanent Magnet) and the front motor is an induction... On the tri motor beast its the opposite, two rear induction and one frint PM. Also, i believe these failures and revall are technically for the motor controller inverter.. anyway, thanks for sharing.

Phantom breaking issues seem to be fixed? Sorry about the motor dying. Assuming yours was within the recall VINs for needing to be replaced with the really early builds?
In the few hundred miles I've done with this version so far, braking seems better. It wasn't phantom braking, it was late braking. And yes, I was within the recall
@@DirtyTesla Appreciate the info. Hoping my phantom braking was just a bug thats fixed with this update. Really frustrating on the highway rolling 70+ and the truck smacks brakes for no reason. Cant tell if the glass around the camera housing is fogged from off-gassing or if it was a software bug.
@BrooksHolt ah yeah I wasn't getting phantom braking really. Only weird thing is the steering would randomly twitch, but not enough to effect the driving really. If you go into service ask them to clean in front of the cameras, should be covered under warranty
@@DirtyTesla late breaking seems a common thing - one thing i feel Tesla can improve: when manual break is applied, retain the break force from FSD. often time i feel FSD press break too late and manually intervene, the initial breaking force was lighter (so the car decelerate a bit slower) when transition from FSD breaking to manual breaking, and cause bigger jittery

I've had both my inverters replaced at this point. I'm an early vin. Also CT FSD is definitely inferior to Model 3/Y. I hope they catch up CT FSD quickly.
I haven't found much difference on 5.5.3 vs 5.5.2. I think both were better on city streets and highways still have a lot of drift over lines on curvy highways...
Any weird lane malfunction? I had it turn into oncoming lane. Also in double turn lanes it has encroached on the inside lane from the outside lane. Both left turns.
I've never had loaner issue. I make it a point to tell them in the app I need a loaner for transportation. Tesla needs to accommodate their owners like any other car service center would for warranty items. Plus the car would be in service for more than 8 hours.
Really sorry to hear your rear motor failed, hopefully Tesla maybe gives your credits to use or something along those lines for the inconvenience of something like that

Tesla needs to add reporting for incorrect speed - like 3 taps on display of speed sign to report - either just that or with audio... (probably not a good idea to let person type correct speed using virtual number keypad)
With the rear motor being a permanent magnet (PM) motor and the front one an induction motor, efficiency would be worse. A PM motor can't free roll but is more efficient. An induction motor can free roll but is less efficient. The induction motor is usually used when you need more power/acceleration or the rear wheels lose traction.
Infrared lights being picked up by the camera (You can't see them with your eyes). Most likely to see the ambient light and adjust the screen brightness or to assist the cabin camera in low light conditions.

really nice slowing down at 12:30 , hope this translates to similar performance for stop signs and other cases. The harsh braking was probably the biggest downside of FSD on the truck for me. Speed profiles would probably help most of the other issues. Bunch of commenters giving crap for the motor issue, I'd still pick my Cybertruck with one motor over another pickup lol. Also wen V13? Tesla AI slackin on us, hope we still get it around thanksgiving.
After driving today with the update, definitely better but still a lot of improvement to be made. The following distance and slowing in general were better, but it still failed to slow down for traffic stopped for a light on the highway (I took over and tried to just use regen to stop but had to use significant braking). Also still has issues going around small roundabouts in a smooth way. I could notice the difference in FSD when driving my model y loaner, hopefully they become more alike and capable when FSD 13 releases.

Is this recall a motor issue or an inverter issue? I lost one of the rear inverters on my Tri-motor last summer. Seemed like a known issue even back then.
Nice. I agree, 12.5.5.3 is the best build so far. Acceleration is better, braking is better, and I want to say it is also doing better with not pulling out in front of cross traffic.
My 22 Model 3 on 12.5.4.2 is significantly worse in the dark on rural roads without any street lights. It'll almost always stop half way through a left turn in the middle of the road. It seems it just can't see well enough. These same roads during the day are no problem.

Mine did he same thing today, tried to turn on a RED arrow.

Rear drive unit problem happened to me as well. It's NOT the actual motor, it is the inverter. Motor is fine.

Doesn't the rear view camera stay up all the time, or are you disabling something so it doesn't show? Hope you get your rear motor resolved quickly.

When my rear motor went down, it was a faulty inverter. Motor itself was fine. Quick fix.

Because the other side got damaged and I had to replace it, and I didn't get it retinted yet

The one time Chris had to intervene for speed, FSD had not updated the speed limit sign. It still read 25 mph.

Foundation series of CT is like the first iPad, it only gets better from here for future revisions.

My CyberBeast keeps the FSD close to the left. She also loves tight turns so much that she drives close to incoming traffic.
JJricks uses a dedicated camera for display recording in his waymo drives and it's quite good quality
