I envy the pilot who bring that behemoth in and land that smoothly...and on the other hand wish I could go up into the heavens and comeback and talk about it.
jfc it's insane how fast that thing is still going at touchdown. screaming down from ACTUAL SPACE, on stubby little wings and no engines, no 2nd chances. i'm honestly shocked that 100+ missions came and went without a single landing mishap.
@@Skylineblue1997 ты про Колумбию? Там было повреждение на этапе взлета. Часть термоизоляции ударилась о крыло и повредила плитку термозащиты. Поэтому крыло прожгло и шаттл развалился. It has to be accurate but not that accurate. From reentry the Shuttle arrives at the HAC point with quite a lot more energy potential than it needs (the opposite can be true in which case the HAC would be a lot tighter that it is usually is but i dont think it ever happened). At the HAC entry the turn is then computed properly to bleed the unnecessary energy off to have the Shuttle at 10'000 feet lined up with the runway at the end of the turn. Even during the descent you see the Shuttle have a very steep glideslope to again have more energy than it needs, bleeding it off during the preflare making the necessary adjustments to touchdown at about 180 knots. The most difficult part is by far the reentry and the roll reversals which where done 100% on autopilot. Beautiful piece of engineering

And I thought my job is stressful my hats off to each and every one who has chosen and or does choose this risky endeavor and it’s their sacrifice that we know what we know now about space and beyond
That landing was smooth as, better than the Ryanair landing I experienced last year, we hit the runway with force even women started screaming as we hit

Crazy how precise and there's NO ENGINE!!!

You can hear the jet. It’s a plane ✈️😂
@@saintnick8651 Mate? Youstupid?. It's a glider. No engine at all. You hear the wind because its landing at almost 300mph.

Noisiest glider ever.
That jet noise comes from two F14s flying along side the shuttle..
Stealth f14s?
no it T-38
That was a really smooth landing
This is brilliant
One of the GREATEST acheivements by NASA.
WOW.
And now we're back to flying a spacecraft that looks like a part from a dishwasher.
Stupid isn't it, we had actual sci-fi shuttles, now back to saucepan modules. 🙄
Having said that, space x has conquered the reusable stage one.

Its so beautiful so clever and always so moving like u Dwayne chéri ...
And yet Ryanair can't land a Boeing 737 without slamming into the ground
When you realize a space shuttle lands even smoother than a Ryanair plane
They had a longer runway though, longer than any existing runway in any airport.

That smoke at touchdown were 20,400 dollars in tires which were were ruined by landing so fast and hard. Had to be replaced every time.
Yeah we got landing a small plane,
Then we have a fighter plane,
Then we have a passenger plane,
Now a freaking space shuttle😂
They really kicked butt w this one
Fun fact :- this thing doesn't have any type of engine it's just gliding 😊
You tellin me that thing was in space ?
That was soooooo smooth and satisfying
Great landing, must be a Navy pilot
Probably they alway need extra engines

I belive the pilots were all former navy and airforce pilots.

They definitely don't go to different planets and galaxies. They could only get into Low Earth Orbit, a few hundred kilometers from the ground.
I just experienced a watch this morning lunch of a satellite in Florida, it was soo nice and all glowing in sky

Perfect landing. The bread is buttered.
Dropping like a rock I miss them coming over my house when I lived in Florida BOOM BOOM BOOM
I saw them 2 different times when they stopped for fuel. The shuttle was on the back of an airplane.
What causes all the noise?? It almost sounds like a jet engine but I know it’s just gliding. Is it just the air rushing over the craft?
