At least some one gets that it ain't magic. When the St. Louis teacher said they won because they were privy to the questions, I was like you have a lot to learn about the contest. They repeat some of the question from past contests. So, if you didn't train your students, that is your own doing.

The quiz masters will learn to change their line of questioning next time. No matter how brilliant a person is, he will have to wait for a mathematical question before he can do his calculation. This is not a matter of brilliance from academic point of view, it shows deficiency on the part of those who set the question.

NSMQ has to do something about this. You can’t answer a mathematical question when all the variables haven’t been given.
