Thanks for recording and uploading this! Living near Buffalo it was really cool to see the parts I'm used to riding right at the beginning of the video and then all of the new stuff. Some day soon I'll make this trip myself!

Great Thomas! I just wanted to comment before I can watch, and give it my undivided attention. Looking foward to it. Perfect content for a snowy cold Buffalo NY evening!

After I finished the Erie Canal Trail I went back next month and rode the second leg of the Empire State Trail also from Albany to NYC. Here is the first video. ua-cam.com/video/JQUwCb-mD-c/v-deo.html

Great video and images. I appreciate you including where you stayed. Solo cycling lodging choices are the hardest to plan. I am planning this trip in September. You mentioned an app on your phone besides google maps. I don't see much in the app store. can you share what app you used? Thanks,

I used my RideWithGPS app and this interactive map empiretrail.ny.gov/map. I like that it's pinpointing your actual location all the time. The trail itself is also well marked, hard to get lost. I also used Google Maps turn-by-turn navigation when needed. It's a beautiful trail, easy to ride, I would even say one of the best I have ever ridden. Have fun! 😊

Wonderful adventure thanks for sharing. What camera did you use to film this one? iPhone?

I use GoPro. I have two of them, one is mounted on my handlebar and turn it on every once a while for short clips and later combine into one video. For birds I use a small Sony point and shoot camera.

Hi, Really enjoyed watching your Erie canal adventure, very informative, you mentioned two apps, Google maps and Empire State Trail? how did you find the Empire route app, I've looked in play store and google search, is it turn by turn map?. looking forward to hopefully doing this ride soon, I live in England. Thanks for sharing.

At 43:33 you said "this part looks pretty new". It is NOT, it's been there for decades, the only "new" is the fact that they paved it with asphalt when it used to be just crushed stone. I've walked it countless times over the past half a century or more. The "trail" there and along most of the canal are the old tow paths.
