There's so much that can be said about Red Lights, but if I remember correctly the title translates to obsession or compulsion, and it was inspired by Chan and Hyunjin's relationship with their music and dance. It sort of becomes an addiction and you stay up all night thinking about it. They, especially Chan, have both talked about their struggles trying to keep a healthy balance with their work and how insomnia can really affect them. The song was definitely meant to be sexy, but they purposefully allowed it to be interpreted in many different ways. It's about a toxic relationship, whether that be with a person or an idea. So you're not wrong for having a dirty mind lol, Hyunjin even called the song "hard sexy" lol, but that's not exactly what they were thinking about when writing the lyrics.
19:45 That’s what Hyunjin wanted, people to focus on his dance and not on his looks. (That’s why he had the cap on the beginning) (he used, as a trainee, to be criticize for his looks, because he was street casted, so other trainees used to said that he don’t need to work hard because of his looks, like he would for sure début and stuff)
Mia, one thing about Hyunjin that i find really cool is that since debut he was never satisfied with the "visual" title and actually felt a little bit cursed by it. He's very hardworking and because people focused more on his looks than his talents he really tried to perfect his craft so he could be praised as an artist. Dancing is one of if not the strongest of his abilities and he purposedly tried a more strong choreo here with popping and krumping so he could challenge himself. Also his rapping and singing abilities have improved so much since their debut, and he does writes/composes songs as well. If that wasn't enought, his most loved hobbie is paiting and drawing and he dreams to have an expo for his work on the future (and if you see the paintings he does you'll see that the man is TALENTED. PERIODT.)
Just a TMI about Hyunjin: He just had a hair cut after having long hair for so long, even us were soooo surprised with this sudden change. That's prolly the reason why he kept on touching his hair haha. There were so many people who said Hyunjin's only popular because of his long hair/visuals. In this performance, he cut his hair and wore a hat so people could he him and his talent instead. I swear Hyunjin is soooooo much more than just a pretty face. There was even a time where he kind of hated that 'cause people said he'll debut with or without putting much effort because of his face and he was hurt as was he was putting effort on his dancing and trying to improve himself. Hyunjin has one of the softest hearts and a genuine person. I can't wait for you to see their personalities individually and how good their chemistry is as a group. I suggest for you to check their One Kid's Room series. It'll show you a good picture of who SKZ is :)
I agree. Hyunjin tends to be the quiet observer type so he gets looked over in group interviews and such, but when you watch individual or pair interviews of him, he's easily one of the most introspective and contemplative members. There's a lot more going on in his head than on his head, and that's saying something, because that man is beautiful.
I actually appreciate so much how you pointed out how his aotm put more emphasis on the dancing rather than the visuals because on a studio choom interview, hyunjin has mentioned that the reason he put on a cap in the beginning of the video is cause he wanted people to look at his talent in performing, not just his face. This has been something he's struggled with a lot even all the way back in his predebut days, where other trainees would say that he could debut just using his looks instead of his talent. The other members also go out of their way to also compliment his skills rather than just his visuals because they're very supportive and respectful of his hard work :)
The concept of red lights is about compulsion and obsession. Hyunjin and Bang Chan are personifying those to concepts. They both struggle with perfectionism. Hyunjin with dance and appearance and bang Chan with work and production. They did want to explore a more mature style choice and I don’t think anyone is complaining lol
Thank you for appreciating Hyunjin's skills and talents, he would love to hear this, because he always wanted people to focus on his dancing, not on his looks 🥺 He was basically practicing 18 hours a day to get where he is now. He was streetcasted when he was shopping and he did know NOTHING about dance but because of his ambition and hard work he became one of the best dancers of this generation. He cut his hair for this performance because he wanted to prove he's not just the "long haired guy" from Stray Kids and that his power doesn't lie in his hair but in his skills and he challenged himself by learning a completely new style to him and he killed it. I am beyond proud of him 🥺 Thank you once again, Hyunjin would love to hear what you said about his dance. He even said that his fav part of this performance is when he's wearing a hat, because people can look at his dancing, not at his face. He is also a choreographer, he choreographed two his iconic dances "When the party's over" and "Play with fire" which is literal 🔥🔥🔥 Thank you once again and I can't wait for more Stray Kids reactions, I'm subscribing 🥰
@@miaisfine No way, it's just about driving, and that's some insider info that Chan said in a Vlive. There is definitely no double meaning or anything of that sort in that song XD
I loved your reaction!! I recommend all the songs from their mini album Oddinary, these are the songs w MVs: - “Venom”, - “Lonely St.” - “Freeze” As well as songs from their Noeasy album (Thunderous was the title track): - “Cheese”, - “Domino” (No MV but they have a dance practice) - “The View” - “Sorry I Love You” + “Secret Secret” (No MVs for those two, but there’s vids of them singing it live) - Wolfgang OT8 version performance There’s so much more, literally their whole discography is so diverse!!
I have seen venom, lonely st, & freeze when I was first getting into them a few weeks ago but I just didn't react to it on my channel c: I will write the other songs down though, I haven't seen/heard of those!
Red Lights is just a b-side, a unit song to be exact. It's actually one of the most viewed SKZ MVs :) Most groups only release MVs for title tracks but it has been a tradition for skz to do MVs for at least 2-3 b-sides. So if you really wanna get in depth with SKZ, I suggest you make some time 'cause I can't stress enough how much stuff they have which you have to catch up with. We'll be here to guide you and help you if you'd like hehe.
If it helps, one of the messages behind Red Lights is work obsession, that thing they cant let go is work. This is because Hunjin and Bang Chan are certificated workaholics and even if they want to let it go, they cant. It is represented with the chains, the person standing over them is the personification of work itself and feeling "choked" with your workload. Why they felt the need to make the connection THIS way, idk. But is really cute seeing Bang Chan get flustered when people ask him about the song.
I dont know if anyone has said this, but since they are self-produced, they create songs in units every album. For example, in Noeasy, hyunjin and chan did red lights, seungmin, IN and han did gone away(which is more like a ballad) and lee know, changbin and felix did surfin(a summer song). In the oddinary album they did unit songs as well: the rap line (changbin, han, felix and hyunjin) created Muddy Water and the vocal line (the remaining members) did Waiting for us. They had unit songs in GoLive as well: Hyunjin, Lee know and felix (aka danceracha, the dance trio) made Wow; seungmin and In (vocalracha) did My Universe and Changbin, Han and Chan (aka 3racha or the producing team) did We Go. Every member has written songs and most of the members have produced/helped to produce songs, which is why they can break of into any units and still be able to create amazing music! And their unit songs are still official stray kids songs which is why it says Red Lights by 'Stray KIds". PS. stays use the word 'racha' instead of 'line', (eg. vocalracha instead of vocal line), ever since 3racha was created :D
Hyunjin is from DanceRacha (the dance line) (along with Lee Know and Felix), so he is a great dancer and is kind of known for his facial expressions. Although honestly they all are so good with facial expressions, I wonder if they had a course of facial expressions during their trainee period. You notice it if you watch their live stage performances. My favourites are always Han, Hyunjin and Chan, but the others know the job as well, they are just not as consistent. I also started with crack videos, when I got into SKZ. But they have tones of other content. I for sure recommend you their survival show called "stray kids". All members were chosen by Bang Chan, and the show is about JYP giving them mission and SKZ trying to prove that they can debut without loosing any members and being good enough to have a full control of their music. There is also SKZ Code - this is a recent show they have been doing for fun. I am not sure what to recommend you regarding their music, because everything is great :) And we are so spoiled to have MVs to b-sides as well.
red lights basically talks about toxic relationships(?) from my guess but one thing i wanted to add was thats stray kids have very important lyrics so it may help for you to understand the song theme from the lyrics also they write their own lyrics!! you should definitely check out lyrics!! thanks for you reaction!!
Hyunjin is standing over himself. This song isn't about them together....it's about their individual obsessions. That's why they are always looking in the mirror instead of always looking at each other.
I love how you mentioned that Hyunjin's AOTM made you focus on his dancing instead of his visuals because that's exactly what he wanted. He talked about how ever since pre-debut, other trainees would always look down on him and they would tell him that he doesn't have to do anything in order to debut and that his debut is guaranteed just because he's good-looking. He said that that hurt his pride a lot and ever since then he constantly keeps working hard, challenging himself and improving non-stop because he doesn't want to be seen as just a pretty face, he wants people to recognize his actual talents. Even today, he said that if he would miss even just one day of practice in order to rest, he starts to think about how there's other people who are practicing hard while he's not so he starts feeling like he's falling behind. That's why he spends over 12 hours every single day practicing. Also, a lot of people know him for his long hair so he purposefully cut it for this specific performance because he wants people to pay more attention to his dancing and the message that he's trying to convey. His mindset and his way of thinking is just so inspiring to me, that man is a literal definition of a hard worker.
anyone else remembering christopher tryna blame the entire red lights like idea, lyrics, etc on hyunjin when it was a team effort? like stays already watched the song camp where they came up with the song idea. Also Chris will probably give you a lot of trust issues even if he is or isn't your bias from the amount of heart attacks he gives the fandom
if you haven't seen it yet, Hyunjin did a performance video for "Play With Fire"!!!!! LOVED IT!!!!! I had to add the song to my playlist and re-watch it several times because the choreography is GREAT!!!!!!
Hyunjin is more than just a pretty face, something that he’s been struggling with for a long time. He’s a dancer, who’s passion runs through his flow and movements. ✨😩
I think it is about the relation between toxic fans and Skz. Like 'make you feel my love' and 'cannot breathe without you' and 'staying up all night' just make me think of the chains fans can be. Honestly Kpop is all about 'superficial' songs with deep meanings.
Red lights is smth else :D Hyunjin is amazing dancer with his own style, he worked really hard for this one, he even cut his long hair before this aotm, to show people that he's not just good looking guy with long hair. Uhh i love them :D
Bangchan and Hyunjin are literally obsessed with their work...Bangchan is obsessed with creating music, Hyunjin is obsessed with perfecting his dancing. The song Red Lights was basically based on their obsession with the red light that's on in the studio and constantly needing to record and perfect their skills. They realized there was easily a sexy alternative interpretation to their actual lyrics and meaning and based the music video on the sexy interpretation rather then the technical interpretation.
Happy to see you loving Stray Kids. You should watch Howl in Harmony (Song Camp) series, you’ll see all the unit song production process. Yes, Hyunjin mentioned 50 shades … they have requested to be filmed in a hotel. 😂
Yes, Hyunjin is in a wrap around crop top for Red Lights. In the 1st live performance of it you can see his tattoos! I recommend Bangchan & Lee Know's Drive MV...turn on the lyrics, cause Christopher says it's definitely about driving...but he also blamed Hyunjin for writing Red Lights...which is clearly about obeying traffic signals. Thier songs are always deeper than you first think, lyrics, visuals, they all create an extraordinary message that usually takes time to understand. I recommend the Double Knot Dance Practice & the Zombie Maniac Dance Practice, Changbin had me through the whole thing & he's not even my bias!
He cut his long hair for this video. He said he wanted to show a strong side. But it must have been awkward to have long hair and short hair, so I think I sweep my hair back a lot. He came up with a lot of ideas and made it happen right before this video was filmed. The staff who filmed the video praised Hyun-jin's dancing skills and facial expressions for being the best.I'm fascinated by him when I watch his dance. Please watch Hyunjin's "Play With Fire". It's so beautiful!!!
I love your reactions! If you want something with a similar vibe as Red Lights then I recommend watching Drive by stray kids (chan and lee know). The song is definitely about driving 😉
Speaking on atom, Juyeon from the boys has one as well and if your interested, then you should react to it. He dancing style is really unique and his stares during the performance was... it was intense😳.
You reacting to hyunjin’s aotm is the first time that I’ve seen you shut your mouth for a long time hahahh I mean I love your funny reactions but it’s kinda new for me to see you not talk at all hahha you’ve totally enjoyed his performance. Also hyunjin’s has very powerful personality on stage (he looks so manly) but the more feminine hyunjin that you’re expecting is his off stage personality, yes, the duality.
This song is about being obsessed of situation that are not good for you... Like Chan is working 24/7 but he can't stop it sometimes by himself. Btw. You definitely should always have the captions on cause the lyrics are sooooooo important!!!!
Why was bangchan staring at himself like that 😂 Mia's channel name needs to be changed to 'Mia is NOT fine' 😂 I searched the meaning: The song 'red lights' is about continuing to love endlessly despite all the sufferings and red flags 🚩
Love your reactions to stray kids! And girl I get you with going feral. Bang Chan is my ult 🥵 So has anyone introduced you to Monsta X and Wonho yet? 👀
Mia I really love your reactions to skz definitely hoping for more reactions, I would recommend a try not to laugh challenge. I'll link it here ua-cam.com/video/HOIEZcxp6GY/v-deo.html
why do you keep calling it his back meat? that sounds so ....not right. lol This is the best video to realize that Stray Kids are no more kidz but fine af adults.

Also hyunjin’s has very powerful personality on stage (he looks so manly) but the more feminine hyunjin that you’re expecting is his off stage personality, yes, the duality.
Clearly you need to watch Wolfgang. You just need that in your life ASAP.
Sidebar: we NEED Ten to do an artist of the month performance… I will only be able to move on with my life once this happens… 😳

This song is about being obsessed of situation that are not good for you... Like Chan is working 24/7 but he can't stop it sometimes by himself.

Mia's channel name needs to be changed to 'Mia is NOT fine' 😂

The song 'red lights' is about continuing to love endlessly despite all the sufferings and red flags 🚩
