Seams you can't tell the difference between, College teachers, University Teachers, Public Highschool teachers, Public elementary teachers, separate highschool teachers and separate elementary school teachers are all separate organizations and all with different contracts.
I remember when the Auditor General of Ontario reported years ago that school's governance structure, financial planning and heavy reliance on international students from a few countries was not sustainable. Of course now this happens.
They did it for 6 weeks when I was in college. I didn’t get any money back on my tuition or my residence rental. Higher education is failing the students and the country. But so is every real work sector in Canada.
Give them what they want, everyone deserves a wage that matches inflation. But after that, please don’t whine about rising tuition costs and asking others to pay for it.
Both sides talking about how this is all unfair to the students-- my instructors did not care at all about the students last term; I ended up writing a 16 page problem report, which I sent to dean/chair (who probably don't care,) about how the instructors just phoned it in last term, didn't care about us, didn't properly teach anything. It's like they unofficially already went on strike last year. This is so despicable; I had to fight and fight and fight to get funding to enroll in a graduate level program, only to have it be a complete nightmare headache, joke, waste of time-- all because "teachers" feel like they are underpaid.. hey, guess what, at least you have a job! Which I don't... which is why I took the program.. and I'm pretty confident that I'm NOT picking up the skills I need to actually find gainful employment after all this mess is over. Despite the fact that the instructors gifted me (and I'm assuming the other students) A's and B's.
@@GrandKaiserD79 most notable Canadian colleges and universities aren't private. Most are public, as in they are funded in part by federal and provincial funds. It is then supplemented by tuition. Please educate yourself before you post things that aren't true.

@@atoaster2070 All universities provide summer courses for undergrads to take and most of the programs could be finished early if the student chooses to do summer courses. Some universities like Waterloo even provide full curriculum for some programs during summer. Also the summer break is for students to take internships to build up their experience and resumes. It’s not a waste of time. Not to mention profs are still working during the summer even if they are not teaching

The last time a strike occurred, it lasted 5 weeks. Students had lost their motivation to continue, and some had become suicidal because of the anxiety they suffered as a result.
@@atoaster2070 How did students lose their motivation? A strike is like an extended break or vacation for the students. 5 week strike is like students having 5 extra weeks of vacation.
1. We didn't want a vacation. We had just come back from a 4 month summer break (which is far too long to be out of school IMO). The school year had just started, and we were ready to learn, not waste even more time. 2. The whole thing happened in secrecy. The negotiations between OPSEU and CEC started in July, but we weren't informed of it until mid September, after we had paid our tuition, moved into our apartments (which required us to sign a 12 month lease), and committed the entire year. 3. It interrupted our year. If they had gone on strike right before the year started, it wouldn't have been as bad, but they chose to wait until halfway through the fall semester. And then they expected us to resume where we left off without any issues. 4. There was no transparency. We were never informed by either side as to how they planned on resolving it, or how long it would last. For all we knew, there was no plan at all. 5. The way it was resolved was insulting. After 5 weeks, it finally went to binding arbitration and faculty members were ordered back to work. And rather than starting the year over (which is what students wanted), they decided to cram the remaining year into a shorter time frame.
@@atoaster2070life is full of uncertainties. However, I don’t agree with the exploitation of faculty and diminishing the quality of students’ education. Find a hobby, go volunteer, catch up on assignments, read ahead, work more hours, exercise etc - there are plenty of things to do while they’re on strike. When I was in school and they were on strike. I studied ahead. Worked more hours and even took a quick trip. I’m sure you wouldn’t want someone telling you to work more hours than you signed up for with less resources and then having to answer to a boss who doesn’t even understand the program that you’re working in. Do your job for free and add more work to it…let’s see how you’ll respond.
Lots of the College staff can move to India and set-up a College to cater exclusively to Indians. Think outside the box. They could make more money, save the Indian students money and eliminate the taxpayer problem of students seeking PR and refugee claims.
So your great idea is that Canadian college educators open up a college in India as a replacement for a Canadian college in Canada, to save Indian students’ time and money as they aim to get PR in Canada, and get paid more even though the standard of living and pay in India is much lower? Riiiiiiiightttt.
