The master of EV has arrived. Even other makers like toyota and tesla ordered Batteries from BYD. Tried it as grab car, really comfy and quiet. Minor complaints only the many touch screen buttons, and that logo at the back (but international version is just "BYD"). The interior is inspired by gym equipments like dumbells design for AC, door handles, boxing ring 3 ropes on the door (which actually sounds a, e, g keys), boxing gloves on the seats, dashboard mimicking human muscles

Just finished watching Bjorn Nyland review on his BYD EV. One of the things he has a problem was the battery temperature is high even in a place were it was 13 degrees Celsius. He was mentioning if that is the batteries temperature in a a cold environment then he can't imagine its temperature in places with above 30 degrees Celsius. This would concern me because the Philippines can reach to 40 degrees in Summer and many commented that the Chinese only designed their battery temperature control on colder climates because they have mostly cold climates were the cars are made. It may not cause a fire but at higher battery temperatures it can decrease the lifespan of the batteries. There was one comment who mentioned that some BYD users in Saudi had even upgraded their battery cooling system to adapt to the warm climate. Bjorn's other concern was problems with BYD on other charging stations from not getting the handshakes to having slow charging. He was able to solve this problem because they have different stations to transfer but here in the Philippines we don't have that many charging stations if one does not work properly in a BYD EV.

Great point! Will need to do more research. But another hard stop for me is that there’s no Apple Car Play support, which is odd. I’m sure that’s an update away.
Anyway, more concerning is the battery heating up. I’m looking into the Seal lion plug-in hybrid as well. Might be a good compromise.
Quick Update: it has wireless Car Play now. :)

I bet this is still faster than most subcompact crossovers. I might be wrong though. For a starting price of under 1.6m, those with extra disposable cash who wants to try an EV might actually get this as their stepping stone towards a future and much better branded electric vehicle.

    • @wanderingandroid

"Saving mother Earth" EV meat suckers always fail to disclose that the mining of rare Earth metals produces a lot more pollution than the mining of oil, the lithium ion batteries are also most of the time not recycled because the process of recycling lithium is inefficient and costly and you woke environmentalist are hypocrites just a couple of years ago you were protesting smartphone companies for mining lithium now everyone applauds EV manufacturers even though they mine more.

See, this is the issue I have with EVs: Let's say a typical trip to La Union takes 4.5 hours. In the event that you need to juice up during your trip, that adds another good 60 minutes to your trip to add a fraction of percentage (via fast charging), that is if you get a charging slot immediately. What if there are more people lined up before you? Versus typical few minutes using ICE / Hybrid. Then once you get to your accommodation, another challenge is finding a charging port in the parking slot in a hotel, resort, or airbnb. And if you do find one, it wont be fast charging. So you need the entire night to charge up the car, again, if you find a charging slot in the parking. And if you do, will they even allow you. Such a hassle.
Range anxiety will still be a thing unless you see dozens of charging ports available at every gas station.

@@Best_Day I can attest to this one, having a 300km range EV. there is still lack of charging stations outside of metro manila. If there was its the slow AC chargers with 7kW max and through SM malls in provinces (which are not 24 hours). Even some existing gas stations not much are putting up at least AC chargers. Let's see if the local fire department can handle EV fires. The US fire department says it takes 150, 000 liters of water to extinguish an EV fire while it takes 1,500 liters of water to extinguish an ICE vehicle. The US fire department also has a special set of personal protective equipment when dealing with EVs because the chemicals inside the batteries when burnt are cancerous.
