I was drooling with delight on seeing the swords and samurai armour. Only in Japan would each star come in its own wooden box. I love Japanese culture and craftsmanship.

There is another great shop in Osaka. It is accessed via an elevator. At a certain floor there is a martial art shop (with recent katanas for training, cutting etc) and more on top there is a shop with antiquities, exeptionnal pieces (and the shop keeper was very gentle, even though I was a stranger that couldn't buy anything, he was very passionated and enthousiastic about showing all these historical weapons).
I don't remember exactly where was this little tower, I'd say south of the zoo

Looks more like a souvenir shop than a sword shop.
I was thinking the same. I went to a sword shop in Onomichi and all they sold were swords and accessories like tsuba. Didn't look anything like this place.
All those swords looked like modern reproductions. Real sword shops would heavily advertise swords that have been appraised by the NBTHK and have a certificate with them.
These are still cool tho
just visited a Katana shop in Osaka. the cheapest swords there are 200k yen which is about $2000+ and I've seen things 10-50 times that price.

Funny because I bought my replica katana on this very shop last year. It was a red Sanada Yukimura replica katana. I brought it home with me, strapped in my luggage through a plastic wraparound seal with papers indicating it was just an ornamental sword.

actually not cheap at all different carbon steels here 1045 1060 and up..these are entry level katanas and will cut like a more expensive two thousand dollar one 👍

Unless things have changed in Japan , the only Katana you can purchase without all the ridiculous red tape is iaito or non-sharp training katana that can not be sharpened.

Not sure the price tags on these, but "real" Japanese katanas made in the traditional method will cost around $10k minimum, and can go over $100k for good examples

I believe that too ! which to me it doesnt matter where a katana is made . what matters is the tempering of the steel that is used in making a katana . katanas made in china are just as tough , if not tougher than katanas that they make in Japan . Japanese smiths makes pretty katanas and china makes some tough katanas . I love my china made katanas . they will get the job done any time and thats a fact
